I just want to point out that the vast majority of negative comments here about Murphy's election are not in anyway personal about him as a person, he is by all accounts a great guy and a good clubman. Its also not his fault he gets selected in the senior side, its the coach that should be 1000% in the gun so to speak here. Its just that Murphy the player has had so many opportunities and not every really grasped them at AFL level. Good SANFL level player absolutely but there is a big gap between SANFL and AFL.

Yes and of course the coaches are playing him there on purpose so he isn't wasting away in the forward line.

But even still, Murphy is only averaging 24 disposals a game. Surely someone else should be better than him?

Murphy is an experience AFL player so he should be too good for the SANFL level but also has proven to be not good enough for the AFL. Who knows, he might fluke a few goals and be useful but we all know he will turn to shit again.

You've got to hand it to the club. It would have been nearly impossible to destroy the good will with the fan base achieved by beating the reigning premiers on Friday night before we even play another game, and yet here we are.

How do they come to this decision ?? What metrics are there ?? I know we're all hanging shit on Nicks and thats fine, but he cannot be the only guy on the panel who wants Murphy in.

Hes likely going to play a role with little to no relevance of the role hes played in the SANFL.

It makes less sense than it ever has

What would interest me is if they (compared to this board) overrate Murphy, or underrate our young guys? Possibly a combination of both

Geez we are light on mids in the SANFL. Hopefully Murphy plays well and gets some midfield minutes. Just tackle and milk frees like JP and we are set.

It would have to be a combo of both.

If Murphy does as I suspect and plays small forward, allowing Rash and co up around the ball then hes not got a lot of competition in our squad who arent already in the side. Not justifying the selection because you cant.... but that would probably be the thinking.

If hes going to play as a genuine centre square mid like he has in the SANFL, then its an even bigger slap in the face.

Not many are id agree, which is surprising given the ladder position they're in.... but surely Edwards has done enough

having a high disposal count means nothing if its garbage, not that I have watched any of murphy's footy. The thing that irks me is he is played in the mid in the 2s, but then comes in as a forward. He is taking up CBA that other younger players who are mids should be taking. Might not mean much, but murphy in the startling lineup over Rash would piss me off if I was Rash. Best month of footy for the club and murphy gets to be the starting half forward. joke.

Surely if the team has had to step in like this it shows they're internally aware of the push back.

I can only assume that will be all the ammunition and motivation that Murphy needs to finally notch up his second career 20 possession game and prove the haters wrong.
