Mitchell comprehensively nuked Nicks from orbit in the second half. Completely and utterly shut down his gameplan and Nicks had no answers
Nicks was brought in to rebuild culture and relationships after the camp. He’s done that. But maintaining relationships with old favourites is not what we need now.

The approach that got us here won’t get us where we need to go next

Maybe I was right to get some pushback on my conspiracy theory about Nicks being insecure about Davis but there is definitely some level of insecurity in the guy.
It's the stubbornness that gets me.
With Peatling OUT, Nicks made the same mistake in going to the Murphy Wishing Well which has now NOT paid off, twice.
Making mistakes? We all do.
But only idiots like Nicks repeat them and hope for a different outcome.
Why does Nicks want so badly for one of his favourites to succeed when it's clearly not going to happen? He reminds me of Kern dying on a hill for Charlie Dixon when it was clear to everyone the bloke was cooked. It's just sad really.
Pathetic. Worse than 'sad'.

On Tex - ok 300 is a thing

But the plan should have been - given the conditions - Tex goes out at a certain time - even quicker if he looks like he is struggling

Poor planning

I was someone who was actually willing to give Murpht a chance. But sadly he is getting worse with every game. He actually kicked some good goals to start his career, including from 50m on the run. But every game he has got worse and worse. He now, sadly, has a negative impact on team performance.

He MUST go. And take Smith with him. Bring in some young blood and see what happens. It's what the fans want so Nicks have nothing to lose.

How can we never manage to get RT in 1v1 contests? He’s always competing in packs or against multiple defenders. Look at Sam Darcy, manages to get space. Granted I think Darcy is a better footballer, but RT shouldn’t be having this many issues getting clean marking attempts.

Coaching is a major issue.

It was a shit game to watch
But I thought our intensity was generally good, dropped off a couple of times but got back in it. Stuck tackles more than usual.
Thought we were on top most of the game and should have won.
People said we didnt deserve to beat brisbane - based on that, hawks didnt deserve to beat us. Is this evidence that hawks are no good, or are we both decent?
Last week, and this week, is evidence we're around the mark but lack polish imo, some of which is coaching particularly in close games. But also the players can lack composure. Teach the young ones (or pick them to see), the old ones wont learn.
Forward entries were poor. Kicking at goal was worse. So many half chances missed, far more than the hawks did.
Smith, Murphy added nothing. Any of Edwards/Draper/Dowling were better picks. Given the conditions Tex probably shouldnt have played either but I'm not strongly against it. His 2nd halves though are a problem, getting tired I guess.
Should have won.

Hawthorn were bad. But in the first half we dominated the air and put together some great ball movement that fell apart inside 50

In the second half Mitchell completely stopped our strengths from the first half and ratched up the pressure around the ball
I dont think the upping of pressure is due to any particular coaching decisions though, more of a "****ing lift you lot" spray.

Leaving Tex on and watching hos inability to chase, and getting beaten in almost every 2nd half marking contest and not changing it, was a huge error.

That "loser stench" comes from our foetid, rotten Coach and his conservative stubbornness.

I'll bet that twerp Nicks is wondering "Gee, how'd we lose that; what went wrong?? We had Murphy back in etc etc".
The thing is, he probably is asking that. He got exactly what Murphy is. When you select Murphy, you can expect tonight's contribution.

He averages <1 goal and 11.7 disposals across his career. Tonight we got 11 disposals and 0 goals. That is Murphy. Murphy didn't play a bad game, he played a perfectly average Murphy game.

We've been playing glacial down the line bomb the ball football which allows the opposite to flood

Two weeks to send Nicks to a reeducation camp where someone forces him to watch Lachlan Murphy mistakes on repeat

For all the flack Walker cops on here (and he obviously struggled), Fogarty gets off far too easy.

H2h their stats over the last month would be very similar. One is 35, on his last legs. The other is meant to be in their prime, he needs to be offering us more.

Nicks nuked him for 2 quarters. Mitchell got in top for 1 quarter. Even for the last and we just ****ed ourselves.

Nicks played all his cards in the first half though and it allowed an unimpeded and ultimately victorious counter attack

Lost at selection. When a game is this close every little advantage matters.
That game should be the last we see of Smith, Murphy and Pedlar.
If we want to win a premiership, we cannot do it with these guys. Any of Dowling, Ryan, Edwards, Draper, Nankervis and Taylor offer at least as much...but with the benefit of knowing they will build and might grow into first 22 types. The first three above, are showing all they're capable of. And that's not premiership football.

And the contested possessions of Milera tonight is unsatisfactory for a non kpd backman. Soft and a non-contributor.

In defence of Nicks (spew) it is clear that we have vastly improved our defensive structures and our ability to absorb momentum swings for a long time without incurring huge damage but it seems to happen at the complete expense of attacking which should still be our point of difference.

His pendulum swings far too much in games and balance is hard to find
There's no defence.

A good coach devises a style and game plan to suit your players.

**** this boring down the line shit we've served up against the Pies and now Hawks......and lost.

Kick a winning score and dare the oppo coach to with us
