Still played better than about 5-6 other Crows. Thought he had more overall positive influence than Cheney, VB, Seedsman, B Crouch, McGovern, Ratkins and Milera.

Interesting to see what happens Rd 2?!?!?
What about how prematch you were harping on about him being clearly best 22, he's not even on the bench!

Then he starts on the bench and gets limited game time.

You also haven't responded to my posts on how you believe he will struggle to be best 22 this year. Thoughts?

If your not convinced Hendo is better than Mackay you need to watch some games from last year in particular our finals series. Improved version lol

Hendo had a fantastic final v the dogs.

Mackay looked like the worst player to ever pull on our guernsey. Should be enough for you to be convinced.

Hartigan better come in unless Pyke is from the Neil Craig school of stubbornly stupid.

You would drop future star in Milera to leave Mr below average Mackay in says a lot about you.
You seriously overrate Henderson. Average player at best, below average other than that brief purple patch playing as loose defender a few years back.

I may be guilty of overrating VB, or more accurately being overly optimistic about his chances of returning to his previous best. That doesn't alter the fact that your view of Hendo is bizarre to say the least. Hendo is easily the most overrated player on our entire list - and you overrate him more than almost any other poster around here.

Mackay was OK last night. Not one of our best, not even remotely close to being one of our worst. Stating he "looked like the worst player to ever pull on our guernsey" isn't even remotely close to being true. It's irrational hatred, nothing more, nothing less.

Hartigan vs Cheney is a non-event. Reasonable arguments for selecting either player. Different strengths & weaknesses, but otherwise about even overall.

And yes, I would drop Milera ahead of Mackay based on last night's game. Milera is a great talent and has a bright future ahead of him, but he just doesn't get enough of the ball to have any impact on the game. You're critical of Mackay for having 11 disposals at 85% DE, from 68% TOG. Milera had just 7 disposals, at 71%, from 70% TOG. 7 disposals is just not enough to hold his position, not even for a debutant.

Starting to get a bit personal ....

Would have been really good for Beech to get some time in the NAB games. He's a mature ager, we know he can play in the SANFL, that's why we drafted him, because we thought he was the best player at that level, so why not give him a shot? Unless we just drafted him to help prop up the SANFL side after losing Callinan and Pods.
Because Beech is a Rookie and has to be upgraded ......if we upgrade Beech over ROB and Jacobs gets injured ? ......just holding back, round 1, so plenty of games and possibilities

McGovern didn't unbalance our forward line as he is quick & makes many tackles like cc.

However, I agree we were a tall defender short with Hartigan not playing. Doubt Waite would have kicked as many goals on Hartigan.
Kicked a couple on Talia .....are you suggesting Hartigan would do a better job than Talia ?

Suggest the better strategy is to cut the supply ......but North were able to deliver non-pressured kicks to their forwards

Here is my opinion on ins and outs.

OUT: VB (Needs a long rest), Cheney (Because of Ports talls), Milera (Love what i've seen, but needs to build up some confidence racking up the ball in the SANFL before exploding in the seniors).

IN: Henderson, Hartigan, Knights - All 3 showed good form in the SANFL and replace the respective player coming out of the team.

So you would keep Mackay over Milera for the 6 extra disposals and ignore the massive upside in Milera considering it was his first game and Mackay has played near 200 :p

If 7 disposals isn't enough for a debutant how on earth is 13 enough for a senior player to keep their spot considering they went missing when it mattered!

Thommo won't get dropped at any point this year.

He won't be playing SANFL, that's for sure. But I reckon he'll catch a breather or 2. Although, if Pyke is going to embrace the garbage served up by Mackay and VB, then he mightn't care if Thommo is run into the ground and collecting 20 touches each week. Will be an interesting year, that is fo sho.

He's almost at 300, I can't see them doing anything to put that in jeopardy. We talked about giving Thommo a breather last year and that never happened.

Disagree, he spoke all the right words but he selected the 3 stooges in every game he could. He didn't shake up the coaches box, kept the same guys as were under sando and craig.

Elite standards sounded great, but never saw that mindset at the selection table.

This is exactly right and he was starting to think he was a fraud. But after that Brisbane win he was clearly irate in the presser and stated that the team was going to be improved from the 2's. Logical conclusion is a card or two was stamped that day. At least in a short term sense.

Nope, sounded precautionary more than anything, but that'd mean hes done something to it last night.
Or someone landed on his foot in a contest ? ....who knows?

I don't think Cheney is considered a like for like in VB position.

That's right, Cheney can actually defend. The last thing we want is a like for like, we want an actual defender not a 'failed at every other position the last 4 years plodder'. Whoever had VB on Harvey needs to be demoted. They've got no feel for VB's weaknesses or Brent's strengths, so shouldn't be coaching or running the backline if it was a player decision.

It depends on who are the options to play VB's role .......off HB I'd have Shaw coming in

But I am confident the club will want to rush Knight in ? ......so who will he replace ?

Hey NTRabbit are you going to take WW to task over this post? Shaw to replace VB, no way says Brer, he reckons to replace VB off a back flank we'd be looking at a Gore or Grigg type.

To the topic, I'd love for Shaw to get back in. Haven't had a chance to check the sanfl thread yet, hope he went well. As for Knight coming in, I can't think of a single player who he could replace. I expect it will come from Milera or McGovern.

I'm warming to the idea of Talia, Lever and Shaw (+ Cheney as a medium defender). Shaw's form in the SANFL has been good the past two weeks, if he continues to play well he deserves a spot.

I still don't think Shaw is great one on one, but if his form in the twos is good, he's worth a shot at AFL level again

Meanwhile Hartigan wasn't exactly awesome yesterday in the twos.

That holding the ball against him when we were 4 goals up and had the clearance was the turning point. He could barely move in the last quarter.

Still, he was our best mid on the night. I think we need another clearance player in the side, be it Lyons or CEY.

I think there were 2 errors at selection. One was going a KPD short and the other was going one short in clearance mids. Either McGovern or Mackay should have made way for Lyons or CEY. Was a bad debut as the big banana at the selection table for Pyke. Outsmarted ourselves.

Can't we upgrade a nominated rookie before the season and still have Jaensch's LTI in the pocket to upgrade ROB if needed?
