Hendo for VB
Hartigan for Cheney
Knight for VB
Menzel for Shooter

I initially said 2-3 games for Hendo however given VB's inept performance Hendo comes straight back in. Hendo has a massive tank and can play HB, Wing or HF

Hartigan's inclusion allows Lever to play as the 3rd tall down back

Knight for DMac is a straight swap and we lose nothing in running power however gain aggression

Menzel for Shooter, I'm not sure that we can get away with playing both Milera and Shooter at this stage and by all reports Menzel got better longer the game went and used the ball extremely well... Bring him in for the big Occassion

Give Charlie one more run in the SANFL side

B. Lever. Hartigan. Brown

HB. Smith. Talia. Laird.

C. Seedsman M. Crouch. Knight

HF. Menzel. Tex. Douglas

F. Lynch. JJ. Betts

1R. Sauce. B. Crouch. Sloane.

Int. Henderson. Milera. Thompson. Atkins.

Emg. Shaw. CEY. Shooter.
I'd be interested to hear from those that went to the SANFL how Hendo went as the game wore on. I think he got most of his possies in the first half and faded badly. Probably needs a few weeks in the 2's to build his fitness.

Sounds like Johnno Beech was close to BOG. Could be a replacement for VB?

Also, if you were to drop one of the new guys I'd keep shooter in. Knight can come in for Milera. That is "if"

Be very surprised if Cheney is dropped for Hartigan.

Dixon was the only permanent tall today with Westhoff playing up the ground and Shulz not a factor.

Medium size players caused much more trouble

This will happen fairly regularly. If they are fair dinkum about rewarding SANFL form Beech will have to play sooner or later

Hendo was unaccountable for most of the first half and had 14 disposals. Had 11 in the second half, so even enough. I'm just worried about Hendo because he doesn't offer a whole lot defensively.

Not sure about dropping Shooter either. This time last year Power absolutely creamed us on the rebound, so Shooter is going to be valuable with his forward pressure. Might be why Knight and CC need to come in too.

Ive got a bloody good feeling about Shooter if he stays in this week. We all know how shit pitTARD is when the heat is on and Mclov was our best at putting the heat up the clackers of the opposition last night. I can just feel him getting of the leash. Ports defence is definitely their weakness, we need to make them grovel; to quote tony greig.
How I hope we line up vs port:
Betts/Impey (LOL) Jenkins (Trengove) Mclov (Pittard)
Lynch (Hombsch) Walker (Carlisle) Knight (Broadbent)

Not to mention bringing in Cameron for some more dash.

I think Pittard can be ok. Apparently he copped a bit today but I want a player who will take the game on. Though Pittard has been in the system for about 5 years? So some of those death runs should be less and less.

I would keep McGovern just on the fact I believe a new player should get a run of 4 games to find their feet.

Seriously there's a zero percent chance of Cheney being dropped so all the people suggesting it is pretty strange to me. He was arguably our best defender on the weekend. He thoroughly outperformed Smith and Brown (both were puke), and I personally thought he was better than both of the golden children in Talia and Lever. People are dropping him because they wanted Hartigan to play Round 1, and ignoring the fact that Cheney was excellent.

We'll have to upgrade him first and I'd say ROB will be first cab off the rank.

Excellent is a massive stretch. If Cheney lines up on Dixon, Westhoff or Schulz he will get torn a new one and we are handing them the game before it starts.

I'm not saying don't pick Cheney just don't pick him as a key defender!!

Facts are he doesn't match up well on talls or smalls so it's very hard to squeeze him in.

For who? Not an attack just genuinely interested in why or how you can pinpoint 2 weeks when so many things can go right. If , big if , we win by 100 points next week do you make changes? If we win round 3 by 100 do you make unforced changes? Too many variables to look too far ahead. Yes the club will be doing their own fitness assessment and saying '' these guys are tracking well and will be fully right round 2/3 etc'' but to then put them in just because doesn't make sense.

:)

So you're saying that if a team carries a player to a 100 point win, you are forced to continue to play him and leave a better footballer in the 2's? You should always be looking to improve your side if it's possible and you need to keep an eye on players that only play their best footy against poor sides.

if we go in defensively short again we gift them with another avenue into attack the bomb long/crumb please work it out quickly...

That's how they beat us in first showdown last year we went in with a small backline

Is this a game where you concede that Gray and Wines will dominate and concentrate on attacking them from the outside ie tell your back flankers to aim for them and stop them or tackle them ?

So it's our outside players who will magically get to them in the contest. Our inside players, standing shoulder to shoulder, can't get them, but our flankers will. Leaving their own man free no less. It's up to Thommo, Crouch's etc to win their fair share of the ball at stoppages. Trying to work some system where flankers ignore their surroundings and other tasks to concentrate on getting to Ports inside midfielders is fantasy.

Couple points. I don't think it's being dropped in the purest sense if it's a change of structure, which I think most posters are suggesting. And the only reason his name has mentioned is because everyone knows that it won't be VB making way, if Hartigan returns. Except a particular rabbit that thinks VB is playing some mythical role that only he, Gore and Grigg can play and which Cheney can't. Or they're actual VBelievers so think he's a viral cog in our backline.

So much for the sub rule!....Lyons didn't get to play league or SANFL this week. He is actually worse off under the new rule.
Needs a run in the SANFL. Can't see him playing the showdown. Unless we lose BoB.

With the spluttering start to the season none of our players have had much football in the last month. We also chose to rest our senior players for the Fremantle game. Tex and Co looked underdone on Saturday night.

What do we do with B Crouch? He looked super slow against the Roos. Do we keep him on in the hope he will gain an extra yard against Port? Can we afford to hold his place in the side at the expense of Knights or Cameron?

McGovern should not be dropped......Cheney for Hartigan......not convinced about either. Perhaps Shaw.
VB and Dmack.......were they any worse than others? On performance alone Lynch should be dropped but this won't happen.

My thoughts are someone has to make way for Knights. We need his pace.

Whether there was a sub or not would have made no difference as he was the emergency

Our 2 best players in the SANFL were rookies. Can we upgrade these to the senior list?
I know we need to hold a spot open for RoB but Jonno Beech was impressive. May put some pressure on Lynch to pull his finger out.

Lynch pull his finger out? His NAB cup was very good and he had one quiet game. That's an odd call

a fresh Lyons might not be a bad thing for a bit of contrast...
Lynch has runs on the board... VB & DMac are last chance saloons and were tripe & vanilla and have gotta be on the chopping block..how could they not be?
too many guns in the shed lining up for tripe & vanilla efforts.... I don't think DMac played badly it's just that he just can't get it done against the good opposition teams - he brings zero hurt factor over and over again... How much more do we need to see before we call time on him...?
