Channel 7 broadcast AFLW in to Melbourne and Perth, instead of Crows v Pies. Unbelievable.
do you even understand the tv deal?

channel 7 doesn't broadcast a game they dont have rights to :drunk:

Love seeing all the salty posts from Fox Footy on the socials this morning highlighting some of the dodgy umpiring calls in our favour. After all the times we have been screwed over it is nice to be on the right side this time.
Fkem, to hell.
Nice to get a couple back our way. Big change too.
Also, I haven't seen any posts about Nick Daicos staging for that free when Smith pushed him in the chest... that was a shocker.
To be fair, he pushed then punched Naicos in the chest, but no harder than the punch that flopping grub landed on Smith to start it.

Ok, so C7 gave up full rights to all Saturday coverage and handed it to Foxtel.
Essentially, yes. It's a commercial decision by them - not mandated by the AFL.

The broadcast deal is a joint agreement between Foxtel & Ch7, with Foxtel kicking in by far the majority of the $$$. The deal sees Ch7 having rights to 3 games per round, and exclusive rights to showing the GF live. In return, Foxtel now have exclusive rights to all games played on Saturdays during the first 8 rounds of the H&A season. Foxtel also now have the rights to produce their own broadcasts (with their own commentators) for all Ch7 games, including the finals (excluding the GF).

The broadcast deal only specifies that Foxtel have exclusive rights to Saturday games for the first 8 rounds of the season (excluding the "marquee games", such as ANZAC Day and Dreamtime at the G).

Anything beyond R8 is therefore a business decision by Ch7, who have/had the option of broadcasting Saturday games but have chosen not to do so.

This is what Ch7 and Foxtel agreed to when they bid for the AFL TV rights. It wasn't mandated by the AFL - it was a commercial decision involving Ch7 and Foxtel.

They did yes, the AFL told Fox they couldnt have Thursdays and Fridays
The AFL didn't tell Fox or Ch7 anything. Fox & Ch7 made a commercial agreement as to how they would divvy up the games between them, and who was going to kick in how many $$$, when they placed their bid for the broadcasting rights.

Wrong again
Repeating your own false assumptions doesn't make them true. You have zero evidence to support your position.

The AFL reported the terms of the Foxtel/Ch7 bid when they announced that they had won. According to the agreement, Foxtel only had exclusive access to Saturday matches from R1-8. Anything after that date is a commercial decision by Ch7, who preferred the ratings sugar hit that Thursday night football offered, rather than showing games in lower rating time slots on Saturday afternoon or night.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with the AFL, and there is no evidence that you have provided or can provide, which states otherwise.

You're full of it!

Here is the AFL's media release, when they announced that Fox/Ch7 had won the broadcast rights:

Like most threads you post in, you're arrogance is astounding.

Think it was in the last quarter. Game on the line. Fogarty kicks a 1 in a million kick to the corridor. No shits given. We didnt get a goal out of it, but this shows our mentality now. Love it
It's what I see in Curtin's new attitude as well. Soligo too, Peatling, obviously Thilthorpe. To quote the great Roy and HG, they throw down the gauntlet!

We will straight up stare the opposition in the face and say "I'm better than you and this is why", and we back ourselves to pull it off.

Ahh... you've been proven wrong, so now you're resorting to playing the man instead of the ball.

I'll take this as a concession of defeat from you.
You've provided no evidence of your assumptions.

You've missed the point from the very beginning and are doing so each time.

if You believe (Uncle) Eddie Murphy, Lachie should be praised for restricting Jaicos:

What the poster has missed is that they had 71 I50s and Jaicos delivered several of them.
Also, Murphy laid one tackle, all game. One.
Collingwood had 71 inside 50s last night. Josh Daicos had ONE of the 71 inside 50s, his lowest for the year. Last week Hawthorn kept Jaicos pretty quiet but he still had 14 uncontested possessions and 5 inside 50s.

Prior to last night Josh Daicos averaged 19 uncontested possessions a game, last night he had 8. Do you think Collingwood decided last night, just for shit and giggles, let’s starve Joshie of the ball.

We have only used a heavy tag on an opposition defender on three occasions this year. The most successful was Max against Richmond. There is no need for a full on tag against North next week so I would not be surprised to see Murphy out of the 22.

When I returned from the game and started reading this thread I couldn’t believe the number of posters gleefully pouring shit on Murphy. Not celebrating a great victory but more importantly declaring “I was right, Murphy is shit”. It’s almost like it was the most enjoyable thing to come out of the game.

Did Murphy play a great game - No

Did Murphy do his job - Absolutely.

What precisely is the point that you're failing to make?

My point is that Ch7 & Foxtel entered into a commercial agreement when they jointly bid for the AFL's broadcast rights. Their bid specified that Ch7 would have rights to 3 matches per round, including all "marquee" games. Foxtel had exclusive rights to all Saturday games (excluding "marquee" games) for R1-8. After that, Ch7 were free to show Saturday games in their 3 games per round, but have chosen not to do so for their own commercial reasons.

The AFL have nothing to do with dictating which broadcaster shows which games, beyond dictating that the marquee games are all available on FTA TV.

Of the fact that Ch7 isn't broadcasting Thursdays game, yep.

Which wasn't the point.
I also provided a link to the AFL's media release detailing which broadcaster had rights to which games, as a result of their winning joint bid for the broadcast rights.

:confusedv1:
Do you mean me, or them?

I know I got "carried away" with Murphy's inclusion and with the last 8 games but, hell, it's such a great change from losing.
I know I miss a lot about structure and zoning too.

The transformation in the Crows evident in the second half of this year is a huge surprise to me.
Huuuge, wonderful surprise!! :D
I don’t have an issue with you,

The Good: only watched the first half so far, listened to the second. Thrilled that we could drag out a win against an arch nemesis! Currently flying over the Atlantic, sprung the $$$ on WiFi so I could read the match day thread! 🤣. I’m three drinks in to the flight and having the best time! 🤣 food has been excellent.

The great: we won! Guaranteed top 2! Two home finals.

The bad: umpiring in first half. Can’t comment on second half at this stage.

The terrifying: wondering if I get let in to the US! 🤣

And ?? You dont think the AFL is part of those discussions ?? Youd have to be extremely naive if you believe that.

There are certain things that the AFL mandates - such as all "marquee" games being available on FTA TV. Beyond that, there is zero evidence to suggest that they care one way or another which broadcaster covers which game(s).

There is certainly no evidence whatsoever to suggest that they have prevented Ch7 from broadcasting Saturday games since R9. Ch7 have made a commercial decision not to show these games, preferring the ratings sugar hit of showing Thursday night games instead. The fact that they're NOT showing the Thursday game next week is incontrovertible evidence that they had this option all along (from R9 onwards), and it was always their choice.
