Well generally you want your bulls to do the grunt work and then feed to the outside where you'll generally see your speedsters.

I'd argue just about every club is the same.

I'll still maintain you can look quicker if on the move. I'll also maintain you'll generally only be on the move when confident of winning ruck taps.

One play Fremantle do fantastically is Sandi 2 hand punch far to the boundary side where Fyfe or Neale hit the ball at full pace. Looks awesome when they do it and Neale and Fyfe look quick.

Again it's the same with Shuey when he just sprints and Natanui delivers it on a platter.

Putting Hill in the middle doesn't solve much for actual clearances IMO.

Fair enough but Hill before he went down with an injury last season was in AA form as an inside/outside mid if I recall .

Time to bring in somebody to replace Blakely across half back. Yet to be given a proper run in there but could be anything as a midfielder

Nah WC mids ran rings around us . Neale and Mundy are a long way of having quick leg speed.
PS I was right about Kersten.;)
West Coast won the contested ball. They certainly weren't quicker. Not even close to being close in that regard. Natinu's taps played a key role in winning the midfield battle as well. The facts are Freo is winning a lot more uncontested ball in the midfield than it was at the same time a year ago. There is certainly plenty of info arguing against the points you are making. Kersten isn't terrible. That was the only point I was making.

Literally impossible to look super quick whilst playing an inside mid. Ask walters about playing mid and the changes over his pre-season, they have to run further, for longer, at slower speeds to get to contests. Forwards play a real burst game. Fyfe would be one of our quicker players, but good luck reaching top speed over the 1/2 steps he might get in before meeting an opposition player coming the other way.
That's why your outside mids are quick, and your inside mids are big. I would agree that with Walters forward, Hill and Blakely back we probably lack a real explosive midfielder to compliment Fyfe ... but there's not many of these guys around.

Our midfield got seriously screwed when MJ was rucking and Sandi forward, I think they were made to look 'slow' the same way against the dogs fyfe looked super quick when Sandi hit the ball down his throat.

Having given anything footy related a break for 24 hours...

I think we need to start playing two rucks. Sandi isn't going to play every game this year if we don't give him a break. He is still very important to our setup so he plays as the main ruck. But we need to start training a new ruck and god-forbid changing the setup slightly for when Sandi is off and he is on, so the rest of the team can get used to roving to him and building up that understanding. We will eventually get to a game where Sandi isn't playing and someone else will have to do it, I don't want to be in a situation where nobody is familiar with a non-Sandi ruck. It is not the end for Sandilands, but it is the beginning of the end. We have to start transitioning soon.

Well isn't this some wholesome bantz, I guess we do need the pallet cleanser after derby week. If you could ask richmond to keep it below 100 points this time that would be swell.
I'm not sure Richmond supporters giant heads make great pallet cleansers. Certainly not enough to get rid of the taint from those cross town knob heads.

Injuries screwed you guys over. Easily would have beaten Coasters if you hadn't lost Tabs and Walters. Helps us of course but I'm sure Mundy will have his say.

Don't do it this week pls, we only have one.

Sandi needs a rest. Get him ready for the Saints home game.
Johnson is cooked.
Walters out injured.

Sandi -> Meek
Johnson -> Apeness
Walters -> Nyhuis (Nyhuis to the backline - Blakely to the midfield)

Would be great if Brad Hill is back.

Ballas just lucky that Walters is out.

Nyhuis - Hamling - Duman
Ryan - A Pearce - Wilson
Langdon - Neale - S Hill
Matera - McCarthy - Cerra
Ballas - Apeness - Mundy

Meek - Fyfe - Blakely

Tucker - Brayshaw - Crowden - Banfield

If Johnson stays in i'll be livid. Can anyone think of a suitable matchup against Richmond. Only talls re Riewoldt and Townsend (who is more 3rd tall). Johnson got smashed in the ruck so he's not even helpful in there.

Agree with this.
Minimal changes - only those necessitated by injury/rests (Walters, Sandi) and possibly a poor performer or two (MJ).

The youth will benefit greatly from a game at the MCG, and against the reigning premiers. Rest them for StK/NM/Carlton etc. around the byes if necessary, but give them a chance against the yardstick of the competition, especially at the MCG.

Does anyone actually think we're a chance?
No sadly - hoping to be in the game going into the fourth. Expect to get run over from there. Staying with them that long would be a major accomplishment in their form and without Bhill, Walters and tabs.

Does anyone actually think we're a chance?
Yep.

I have been a Freo supporter since 2001 and I have seen Freo field much worse teams than our current side and still win comfortably.

We fielded a team that kicked 1.7.13 in round 15, 2009. The majority of that team played In the derby 2 weeks later and was good enough to beat west coast by 5 points.

Eg Lycett certainly dominated and gave their miss first use on the weekend.

No, and I'm quite satisfied at having accepted Sportbet's offer to give me an 18% return ($1.18) on my 9 day investment with their company. Its the only consolation on weeks like this.

Please use lube this time Dave. :(

out - Walters Duman
In - Cox Hughes (allow blakely into mid)

Ryan Hamling Johnson
sHill Pearce Wilson
Langdon Neale Tucker
Matera Cox Cerra
Ballaz McCarthy Mundy
Sandi Fyfe Blakely
Brayshaw Banfield Hughes Crowden

Thoughts on giving S.Hill a go up forward as a small medium, Bennell type. Has all the skill and athletic ability to be great up there in the absence of Walters. Also if Hughes comes in it could allow Wilson to be freed up down back so we wouldn't lose too much skill wise down back.

Has to be Hughes and a reshuffle. Aside from that. Deck chairs stuff. Don’t think anyone aside from Hughes will make a difference. Apeness doesn’t deserve his comeback to be rushed, likewise Bennell. Meek showed something in the preseason, but hasn’t fired a shot since, Cox a bit out of form. North and Giro again, need some more development time.

Sutcliffe, Sheridan, D.Pearce. Let’s not go backwards.

Does anyone actually think we're a chance?

I do. We match up reasonably well and the MCG suits us. In the second half of the derby we stopped kicking it straight to McGovern so if we can do the same this week and keep the ball out of Rance's hands we're a sneaky chance.
