Prediction R9: Changes vs Swans

With Buddy out do we give A Pearce a spell to rest up for Ben Brown the following week? I feel like Pearce is much more important to our team than just his role as being a key defender..
I can't imagine we would rest him just for the sake of resting him, only if he is sore or carrying something. I think its important to keep getting games in to him and building our chemistry with the back 6. It may be a good chance to free Pearce up a bit and play more of a third tall role and see if he can generate a bit more attack from the backline.

It looks like Crowden is still trying to shrug tackles like he could when playing against other kids.
Its a different proposition at AFL level and he needs to adjust his thinking and dispose of it quicker and/or improve at judging when he's a chance to break a tackle.

Agree he could do with a spell at Peel to re-energise as he's bound to be a bit down on confidence at the moment.

Or he could just get stronger, like most 18 year olds do and become impossible to tackle. Like he was as a junior.

He’s built like a nugget, he could shrug most players off.

I never understand the constant calls to rest blokes during the season FFS

If the medical dept need to rest them, they will

Otherwise pump as many games into them until the bye, most 18-20 yr old kids want to play every week not sit at home.

Get them over for their first game at the SCG so they aren't as overawed next year

How about Sandi and S Hill? Maybe Mundy?

What if Brayshaw only play 60% game time one week?? If we didn't have many njuries, and good depth then I would rather rest a player than have him play under 80% of game time. If he is good to play the entire game, then he should play.

I was kinda hoping Buddy would be back, I'd love to see A.Pearce test himself against arguably the most mobile key forward in the comp.

I find it puzzling that so many people want to rest players. The season has barely got underway and every week people are calling for this player or that player to be rested. To build a properly functioning team there needs to be continuity in the selection process.

Minor milestone this week is that it will be Ross lyon 150th game as coach of fremantle this week. And our 1st coach to do so for the club.

Does that mean he qualifies for life membership like the players or is it different for coaches.

Anyway it has been a unusual couple of weeks for the club and ross and while he does have flaws in his coaching just like everyone else.

He has overseen our most successful era 2012-2015.

So well done Ross

I would think that he is as entitled to life membership as the players.

The season is not “barely underway”. It is over a third of the way through. I doubt the top 8 will change much (maybe one or two sides drop out). It’s a brutal game and players would have copped a battering by now.

People are calling for players to be rested mainly if they are sore and/or old. Very legitimate reasons.

Getting a bit awkward with Johnson now. Sydney without Buddy/Reid have gone very small. He'll get badly exposed by their mid sized forwards but I don't know if we can really continue this one week in one week out thing we've got going.
Want to get some consistency from our defensive 6/7 and that's impossible while he's hovering around.

Already has AFL Life Membership (awarded in 2013).

FREMANTLE captain Matthew Pavlich and coach Ross Lyon, Richmond coach Damien Hardwick, Gold Coast coach Guy McKenna and recently retired Geelong champion Matthew Scarlett are among eight people to be awarded life membership of the AFL.

They will be granted the honour at the League's annual general meeting on the eve of the home and away season.

Pavlich, Lyon, Hardwick, McKenna and Scarlett all qualified for life membership automatically by playing or coaching in a total of 300 games. Each reached the milestone during the 2012 season.

Lot will be decided by injuries. If Wilson is back, Ballas injured and Walters not back I would consider playing MJ forward to give us three talls there on the small SCG ground plus a more mobile defense. Hughes could also be an option instead of Duman or Nyhuis depending on MC decision.

Need to sort the ruck as well, we were just very disorganised if 211 was not there. Maybe MJ also fills that gap because otherwise we had Banfield for at least one of them!

What I meant is that Crowden is similar to Grey in that he runs around like a cannon ball and cannot fault his desire.

But yes, Crowden is a great user (as opposed to Grey), he just doesn't get it enough.

While im on the topic, what I like about Crowden is how he lowers his eyes going forward. Wish he had 20 kicks a game.

Then what we need to be doing is getting the ball to Mitch when he is not about to be tackled.
He copped 3 handball receives Saturday night where he couldn't avoid being tackled.

The impressive thing with Mitch is he holds the ball for that extra second to spot up the best target to handball to.

I have been noticing this a lot lately. Not just with Crowden but the whole team. With the kids you could expect it and as they progress they'll get better but not with some of our veterans.

That's because Mitch has that air of confidence about him plus the instinct to make his disposal a quality one.
I reckon the coaches will be encouraging him to keep it up.

Fyfe has given off a couple of suicide handpasses the past 2 games, including to Mitch.

I’m still not getting the comments.

He’s been open countless times and runs himself into trouble. He does that weird 360 spin to try and shake them loose. Often with his hands free and then gets nailed. It’s as if his first instinct is to take on the tackler not get the ball out.

Bad luck doesn’t see a guy pinged for HTB multiple times in EVERY match.
Yep, I think I mentioned over the summer that if he plays like his U18 pre-draft highlight reel, he will get pinged a lot at AFL level. That doesn't mean he won't make it, but he will need to change his game slightly. Sometimes you just have to move the ball on.

He is also very left-sided which gets worked out quickly at AFL level.

The positives though is that he has a fantastic work-rate, a great appetite for the contest, and good vision. I think his vision is one of the reasons he gets pinged so often -- its because can see an opportunity further down the ground and insists on trying to make it happen instead of, sometimes, playing the percentages.

His blue collar attitude gives him every chance of being a Life Member of the footy club. But he will need to learn and change as well as work hard.

I was at the Syd/Hawks game on Friday. If Ronke, Rohan, or Papley line up on the likes of Johnson, then they'll score another big bag this week. Absolutely crucial that we get the defence tall/small mix right.
