Naughton's knee to English's head is starting to look like a serious disaster. He didn't need to be smashing himself into packs when the game was already won. Now it's looking like English has lingering concussion symptoms.

Even if/when he comes back, one more concussion could end his career.

No English again... wow. This is really serious now. I know we are just most likely playing things extremely safe, but it’s concerning.
Concerning for English
So still no English huh? Starting to get a bit concerned there
Legitimately worried about English now. It’s ok for the club to be worried about long term effects, but it’s also ok to be worried about how much he’s missed.

The Adelaide bloke that got driven into the ground by Lycett is back this week.

At least the selection bingo is on point again this week, Roarke at FB to take on Kingy
I will happily eat humble pie if I am proven wrong but I am absolutely unconcerned about English.

Tim’s injury and it’s effects on him are likely stock standard but the club has opened their eyes to the reality of concussion and are taking a new highly conservative approach. They understand two things: 1) There are serious long term risks to playing someone who has recently experienced concussion and 2) there are no real short term advantages to playing them. So far we have lost one game and won two in his absence. Does anyone think he would have swung the Richmond game? I don’t, not running back out there right after a concussion. The club genuinely thinks we can win without him and will wait until they are 100% he has recovered. I think this will be their approach from now on. Some players may bounce back quicker but bringing them back immediately after the 12 days will not be the norm.

Those providing medical advice as to best practice with concussion have been saying a minimum of 30 days for a long time now. Just because the AFL has a new 12 day policy, don’t mistake that for being a good idea.

Wow interesting to hear about the 30 days. Still a bit of a worry to hear he still has symptoms

It's already been confirmed he had lingering concussion symptoms leading into last week, and Beveridge cited that as the reason for his non-selection. Now he hasn't been selected again, even as an emergency.

There's no time frame for when lingering concussion symptoms go away. Daniel Venables wasn't so lucky.

Believe butler will be the sub this week unless there is a late change
TBH I'd be more comfortable with Lewie Young as the sub. He has his flaws but we are screwed if we lose a tall

If we get beat by a 34 year old ruckman one out we aren’t that great.

Again if we want to contend we win this and win it quite easily.

Wasn’t long ago we were beaten by Ryder.

...with Marshall.
He's a huge out - I'm sure the saints would swp them in a heartbeat if possible

The most comprehensive scientific concussion study was conducted over many years involving 10,000 college grid iron footballers.

The study revealed only after 4 weeks did athletic mental and response time function return to 95%.

Hopefully, this is the kind of information behind our caution. Obviously some players tested at 95% after only 2 weeks but only after 4 weeks was it deemed that virtually everyone was at 95%

English also had a concussion in February missing the first pre-season game.

I'm guessing it's the club's caution when a player has a second (let alone how bad it was, as people have mentioned) in a short, in this case about 12-week period.

There's also the simple element of he's ready to play but simply won't play well enough to be good enough to pick (ie minimal training and lack of match fitness last 3 weeks).

It's not like a the awful Picken situation where he never managed to undertake full training following his concussion.
