GEELONG has made two changes to its team to play Carlton in a Round 2 blockbuster at the MCG on Thursday night.

Jack Bowes will play his first game in Cats colours after playing 83 games for the Gold Coast Suns across six seasons.

Cooper Whyte is the other addition and is set to make this AFL debut. The 20-year-old is a left-footed midfielder who is tough in the contest with a touch of flair. He was taken with the 64th selection in the 2021 NAB AFL Draft.

They replace Tom Stewart (injured) and Brandan Parfitt (substitute).

"It's really exciting for us this week, we'll have a couple of players play their first game for the Cats," Senior Coach Chris Scott told media on Wednesday morning.

"Cooper Whyte will come in as a young player making his AFL debut and Jack Bowes will play as well. So they're the ins, and (Tom) Stewart is the out.”

Whyte is set to be officially named the substitute an hour before the match.

First bounce is at 7.20pm AEDT, with the match to be televised on Channel 7 and Fox Footy.

This team doesn’t make sense.

Last week Scott said we probably went in light on defenders. And then we lost Stewart.

So they go and replace Stewart with a mid.
We are in trouble.
My guess is Blicavs goes down back.

Have you seen their small forwards? Not exactly names to lose sleep over. It's no Henry and perhaps underdone SDK that we need to worry about.

Scott said before he didn't like the thought of debuting someone as a sub so if Coop is a sub ill be disappointed.

I reckon he's debuted someone else as sub before. Maybe last year.

Honestly, Carlton’s team on paper doesn’t impress me... Walsh and Hewitt out of the guts is huge.

Can’t wait to see TDK ruck against Stanley and hopefully have a few contests V SDK.
