Oh this is getting better - now it's the umpire's fault that Thornton had a brain freeze. :thumbsu:

The guy did one of the dumbest things in footy - he reacted to someone mouthing off. He did it at a shocking time right in front of the umpire.

Suffer in your jocks Carlton - Thornton didn't have to go after Davey but he did. It's quite entertaining seeing how many Carlton fans are saying that it was Davey's fault, or it was the umpires fault or whatever. FACE IT - Thornton stuffed up and got what he deserved.
Next they would have been blaming the umpire for what should have been a 3rd free kick after that idiot Waite hit Davey in the head:rolleyes:

Has been a great last 18 hours.

To be fair to the BF Blues supporters, most have been gracious in defeat, only a couple having a sook, OH & Fev. ;)

Strange the ones sooking haven't mentioned the soft frees they got in the first quarter.

"Knock Davey down" - they are your actual words. So he didn't dive in your opinion. He didn't fall to the ground faster than a sack of potatoes dropped from a 50 storey building?

I think it is blatant cheating. Something that prospers in soccer and now obviously prospers in Australian Rules. So if you are in a pushing /shoving confrontation in future - fall to ground and you get a free shot at goal? That is the lesson one can learn.

That is the way the game is heading. Essendon may have the four points but the game was the poorer for allowing cheating to prosper.

This is a bit rich coming from a Carlton supporter!

Carlton remind me of St Kilda four or so years ago (this is no attack on the saints), lots of slow high draft pick midfielders... except the Saints actually have a good defense and more than a one man forward line.

We lost to a below VFL standard side last night, Essendon are barely even a football side they just went and recruited a bunch of 11 second 100m sprinters from the AIS and after 4 attempts it saddens me to say Ratten has not worked it out still.

Essendon have 1 tactic, completely flood the backline hope for a turnover and sprint the ball straight down the middle to a 1 on 1 contest inside forward 50. It is no coincidence Lloyd had a night out being left with the forward 50 to himself for most of the night.

We completely dominated every aspect of the game, clearances inside 50's you name it we won it the only difference was carltons forward 50 had 30 players in it while essendons had 2.

Extremely disapointing with the result with 3 tough games coming up, the tackling was woeful compared to past weeks and we still haven't learnt to block the centre corridor and completely shut essendon down, above all else losing to a certain bottom 2 side really doesn't boad well for the season and we will struggle to make the finals if we play that bad again.

God I hate it when people blame the umpires.

Most Carlton fans (not all) are sooks. Havn't been able to handle their fall frm grace over the last 8 years, and blame everyone but themselves.

Last night was right up there with round 18 1998 on my highlight reel.

To the whingeing old bag sitting behind me last night - suffer.

you so dominated.

What's that now, 4 losses to Essendon in a row?

Knights: 3
Ratten: 0

It always amazes me how little opposition fans know about Essendon's list. They seriously have NO idea.

Must be all those premierships we won at your expense (2000 PF and 1993 GF, both games costing Carlton the flag) with Carlton yet to win a flag at our expense in the modern era, that makes them so delusional regarding Essendon.

Its 4-0 Ratten was our coach for the game at the end of 2007, don't bother quoting me if you don't have a clue

Last time we got a new coach (in 1981), he won his first 10 against the Blues. Looks like Knights is picking up where Sheedy started back in '81.

Carlton have never really recovered in head-to-head games since then. You've been our bitch for 29 years.

Carlton has won only 22 of their last 59 games (37%) versus Essendon, and we've won 2 flags in that time DIRECTLY at your expense (three if you count the 1981 night flag)

Oh.....somebody get some tissues for our little friend. Dont worry if it doesnt work out this year you can always tank for another year and pick up a new midfielder.

That would be correct he has used the same tactic in every game and Ratten is still yet to counter the same simple technique of flooding and running off halfback straight though the middle.

I do like Ratten as a coach but perhaps he lets himself get to emotionally involved with these essendon/collingwood games and forgets about coaching, he should have made this tactic a focus for the week leading up to the game and he should have revved up the boys for their poor tackling intensity during the game.

So either he did these things and the players didn't listen or he got himself to emotionally invovled and didn't either way its the reason we didn't win this game comfortably or win either game last year which frustrates the hell out of me because I was hoping we were over these pitiful loses against crap sides.

hate to use internet language..but epic lolz at you and your sooking. :thumbsu:

my thoughts
essendon played out of their skins.
carlton played decent football in patches but were down on form.
fev kicked 4 goals - 7 behinds - 1 no score - not often fev kicks at below 34%

Going forward, i know which team has the rosier future.
1 loss doesnt make carlton a rubbish team and 1 win doesn't make essendon a good side.
Last nights match proved that some sides match up well against others and football is a game of inches.

Hurt much :D

This idea that the bombers only won because of the umps, poor kicking by carlton, bombers flooding, etc is rediculous. It was a good tight contest. The Blues had the best of it early, and missed some opportunities. The bombers tightened up and started to get their hands on the ball and some good run through the middle and it was very tight 2nd and 3rd quarters. Last quarter Bombers had more of the run of it and missed some oppertunities. Fev missed many chances, but some of those were from tough angles and plenty from that 40 odd metres out where Fev isnt his best. Cant always expect him to kick them from 50 on the boundary like he often does against us.

To suggest the bombers played a heavy flood is plain wrong. Fev had multiple one on one's with young Darcy Daniher and had plenty of times with nearly the whole 50 to himself. Only towards the end did the bombers put numbers back to protect the tight lead, as would any team.

On the umps, i think the bombers maybe slightly had the better of it, but there were plenty of poor or missed decisions both ways. Certainly wasnt blataintly against the Blues.

Don't bother insulting another poster if you have no clue. Knights began coaching in 2008, meaning that the 'score' between these two coaches is 3-0. ;)
