yeah nah we watch the game horse

* off longmire you coach not to get smashed
You have the worst game plan in the Afl
Flood the backline, stop , start chip it sideways
Your rubbish coaching is unwarranted, imagine
Being a swans member and paying the club membership for that crap, campaigners kidding himself.

On this note - anyone at the game see the absolute bellend with an 'All Lives Matter' flag? Had a yellow and black mohawk. Embarrassing. If you're on here mate, go fu** yourself :)

Heard he copped it on several occasions. Didn't spot him myself, I was like a one-legged man in an arse kicking contest between socialising and trying to catch races from the final meeting of the year at Sha Tin! :D

Had no problem with what Longmire did, he simply adapted to the situation. You find tactics like this are used in just about every team sport around the world.
It gave them an outside chance of pinching a victory which they never would have had in a shoot out.
If we were in a game situation which we new we couldn’t win due to injury or form and playing defensive got us the 4 points then all good with me.

I was disappointed that we weren’t able to put more defensive pressure on inside our forward 50. Despite them having extra numbers our small forwards didn’t work anywhere near hard enough to hold it in.

Yep, minnow EPL teams, such as Manchester United, use this tactic all the time against the good sides.

I would have thought the plan was obvious.

Dimma saying what could he do was a cop out IMO.

I am going to look at the replay at 15:00 on foxtel.

First questions that come to mind is who was our plus one in the backline and why where they so ineffective??

Why did Balta not have at least 4 shots at goal even if beyond 50 and starting in defence?

Why did our players not adjust in transition kicking to contest or areas where the impact would be proved minimal??

Why did Short not have multiple shots on goal from long range to??
Exactly IMO he was out coached

(Collingwood)Geelong, Brisbane, Port, Eagles, GWS - teams who seem to be rated as contenders. We so far have a draw from one match against this lot and worryingly, 5 matches to go.

(Carlton, Melbourne, Saints, Hawks) Bombers, Bulldogs - teams who could possibly yet contend but look mid table at worst. We have a 2-2 record v this group.

Freo, Gold Coast, North - teams who don’t look in contention but have all beaten more fancied teams this season.

(Swans) Crows - If you lose to them you are going nowhere. This may change for the Swans if they get players back.

Bolded are the teams we have yet to play, and I would think we would need to conjure 7 wins from 11 matches to make finals. We have one that we should win reliably left, v Crows. So we need to win 6 from the other 10 just to make finals. North looks the weakest of them all right now. We would not want to be losing this week, but I am sure North will see us as a beatable team. Should we lose, we will need to win 6 of the remaining 9 matches, with 5 of those being against teams currently seen as being seriously in contention, just to be confident of making finals.

So that gives a bit of context for this match, I see it as a match we really need to win. Pickett to Higgins.

Out: Rioli, just looked like someone has taken the air out of his tyres on the weekend, so unless he went in ill or something, he makes way.
Possibly also Chol.

In: Ross/Collier-Dawkins/Dow, whoever the selectors deem most ready. I would consider Coleman-Jones for Chol, who I thought went from decent to horrible when the rain came yesterday, though he did have a very hard fall. Probably not the best time to be chopping and changing though.

If we end up with loose players behind the ball we need to shuffle them around so we get the better ball users loose where posssible, Egg-Smith, Balta, Short, Caddy. We have quite a few players who don’t have the most penetrating kicks and them kicking it into a crowded forward 50 is a recipe for disaster.
If you are giving us a win v Norf then Essendon is a win too

I dont blame Longmire for his tactic's and what was he meant to do ? Let his team get smashed by 10 goals

Hardwick needs to find an alternative coaching method to penetrate their backline and 1 way to doing this would have been bringing our tall fowards to the 35-55mtr range from goal where then their defenders would have needed to follow and there is more room to move whilst still being in range of a shot at goal.

Riewoldt / Chol / Lynch was parked 10-30 mtrs from goal every time we went foward. Silly coaching by Dimma Imo

I agree fully that Longmire was entitled to do what he did and it did give them a fluker's chance to win. No coach should need to apologise for trying to thwart the opposition. The bit that irks me about Longmire is why doesn’t he just admit the truth and say I am not apologising for trying to mess the opposition up?

He is trying to infer the Swans had a normal distribution of players across the field and the Tigers didn’t. The Swans clearly held their defenders deeper than normal and then pushed all their other lines up the field one line to leave no real structure to kick to once they got to half back/wing. Tigers always held some sort of structure forward of the ball. So Longmire is talking absolute hogwash to say anything other than that.

I agree Hardwick should not be moaning about the opposition tactics publicly, it is his job to deal with it and come up with the answers. He should have been thinking bewdy, we are under no pressure to defend their attacks so easy day at the office, just need to work out how to get through their stacked defence. Beyond that he should say, and did say, we need to get better at putting the ball into a crowded forward 50 when we are outnumbered.

The Tigers have invested in a gun tall forward and the challenge now is to work out how to stop the opposition from using that to their advantage.

I am not giving us a win v anyone bar Adelaide at this stage, and even they are likely to beat someone. But Essendon should only get better as the season progresses and they get more and more accustomed to their new game plan. They have inside knowledge of Richmond and that match will be especially tough for us imo.

Spot on

How did they explain it was our fault?

using 3 screenshots to call out dimmer on twitter hoping to stir up some oppo hate. Even tho those situations made up what like 10 seconds of the game

meanwhile literally everyone in the crowd even swans fans + dimmer + our players + the GPS said swan sat in their backline the whole game

look out gang sam knows how to use ms paint

Love it he shows a random 3 screenshots and doesn’t say when in the game they are from. I’d say all first qtr before they flooded. Where’s the other 60 odd minutes of video footage showing they didn’t flood oh that’s right it doesn’t exist because that’s exactly what they did and it doesn’t fit your anti Richmond narrative does it Sam!

I can show several minutes of gameplay where the swans had 5+ loose in defence each time Richmond went into forward 50.

My guess would be the first 2 are from the 1st qrt and the 3rd pic looks like it’s from the 2nd qrt where I thought we lost our shape a bit.
