Thank you Bulldogs for ending our season. Jack Ross played well.

Where to start…

Well, we are adjudicated differently, but that wasn’t the difference tonight.

Five day break didn’t help. With nine matches each weekend there is no need for a team that played on a Sunday evening to then be playing on a Friday night.

The difference was the first quarter. We gave ourselves very little chance after that given the way we play (see below). If we played a bit better we might have had a small chance after quarter time. Consider in Q2 and Q3 it was 5.7 to 7.4… tighten up on the Bulldogs and take our opportunities and we might have been able to close that gap to challenge in the last. Instead we had to work for every goal, but the Dogs just seemed to go end-to-end.

I can’t say we did a lot right. Not a lot of fluency and connection. We weren’t clean and missed a lot of easy targets. Sloppy, inaccurate or rushed… it doesn’t really matter. When we did hit our targets in a tight passage it was often the target about to be tackled.

We looked slow. Bulldogs ran past us all night.

Had no plan coming out of defence and even less of a plan going inside 50. It does feel like the directionless style we had in 2016.

Let me guess???

The umpires beat us.

Graham was quick and enormous when the game was there to be won.

McIntosh was the best role player on ground.

Treloar is still a hack.

Ugle-Hagan just joined the club of players who played their only ever good game against us.

Or just lacking hunger, desperation, discipline and all-round skill??

Our ski;lls are well among the poorest in the competition.

10 goals from their key forwards yet most on here were cheering Grimes was out.

Cumbo has had one of the worst seasons I can remember. Everything he does turns to s**t.

Just forget about 2023, hasn’t been our year.

This game highlights that we don’t only need KPFs and midfielders. We also need KPDs.

We need a rebuild. Unfortunately refreshing is no longer an option with all of these holes and impending retirements. We need more top-end talent, which could take years to acquire.
