NBA, Woodville,
Had a look at the updated(after draft) player list on AFL.com and noticed that we had one senior list spot, for Bradshaw, but we also had 5 rookie spots. I was under the impression we had 1 pick in the PSD, passed on 81. If so, how do we fill those spots, if at all. National Draft, Rookie draft? Fill me in please.

Tue, Dec 15, 10am – NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft

Tue, Dec 15, 10.20am – NAB AFL Rookie Draft

We have one available pick in the PSD because we didn't use a ND pick, which we will use on Bradshaw (if available). He'll then be counted on the main list.

The Rookie Drft happens immediately after, these are for players who'll end up on our rookie list (not main) eg Taylor Gilchrist, Mike Pyke etc.

Also you should note, up to two of those rookie spots will be taken by Chris McKaigue (Irish international) and Nathan Gordon (NSW scholarship)

The club isn't required to fill up it's rookie spots, but expect us to. With GC and WS coming in, the clubs will look to drafting rookies for the purposes of rookie promotions, in lieu of live selections in the ND in future years, given the compromised drafts. Also noteworthy: GC will have the first 5 selections in the Rookie draft this year.

Hope that clears things up :)

Yep, thanx. Gordon, Orreal, Puke and Gilchrist were listed. Add the irishman that leaves 4 spots for pups. Clears that up nicely. And the rookie draft is for players not picked up in the PSD or just kids not picked in ND or both?

Both. Any kids unlucky not to get drafted, is eligible.

Also the AFL has changed the rules regarding over-age players in the Rookie Draft in 2009. Each club is allowed 2 over-age players (i.e. over 23) on their rookie list. Hence Playfair (whilst not a kid) is a genuine possibility to get rookie drafted by us.

It will be interesting to see if the rumour of Adam Goodes's brother turns out to be true.

How many picks do we get in the Rookie Draft?
What's is the order? Is it the same a the ND?

I hope we get KPF Matthew Panos, KPD Dylan Grimes or Versitile Joe Dare.

We will be able to draft up to 4 rookies after we get bradshaw from the pre-season draft.

Obviously panos comes to mind, I would also like us to pickup dylan mcneil nsw captain picked in the all australian u18 team Wins contested ball in the middle, goes forward and is strong in the air for his size and kicks goals.

Also have alot of time for andrew hooper - Attacking midfielder/defender who wins his own football consistently. Starred for Vic Country at NAB AFL U18 Championships, averaging 21 disposals, including nine contested. Joint Larke Medal winner and U18 All-Australian. Mind you both mcneil and hooper are around the 175cm mark so that will always go against them regardless of how much talent they have.

But given that the gold coast have the first five picks in the rookie draft it does limit us a fair bit. So it will be interesting to see who we get - maybe we might end up with majak daw but i doubt it.

Can't believe Grimes wasn't taken in ther draft.Would be great to get him even if it is as a rookie.I'd like to see McNeil get a chance also. What more does this NSW kid have to do to get a look in.

It'll be slim pickings in the Rookie Draft with GC involved, but we'll definately take whatever we can get

Best of the rest:

Dylan Grimes (Northern Knights, VIC)
Height: 192cm, Weight: 82kg
Back

Joseph Dare (Geelong Falcons, VIC)
Height: 190cm, Weight: 83kg
Back/Forward

Matthew Panos (Norwood, SA)
Height: 192cm, Weight: 85kg
Full Forward

Serhat Temel (Calder Cannons, VIC)
Height: 195cm, Weight: 95kg
Full Forward

Majek Daw (Western Jets, VIC)
Height: 194cm, Weight: 89kg
Ruck/Full Forward

Alex Carey (Glenelg, SA)
Height: 181cm, Weight: 79kg
Midfielder

Andrew Hooper (North Ballarat Rebels, VIC)
Height: 172cm, Weight: 80kg
Half-Back/Midfield

Anton Woods (Northern Knights, VIC)

I'd throw Dylan Mcneil in as well:
Height: 178cm
Weight: 75kg
DOB: 20/03/91
Recruited from: Lavington/Murray Bushrangers
Bio: Attacking midfielder who captained NSW/ACT in NAB AFL U18 Championships and won the Hunter Harrison Medal for best player in division two as well as All-Australian honours. Courageous player who excels at clearances. Draft Camp level 14.2 beep test confirmed his endurance to run all day. Best and Fairest for Murray Bushrangers averaging 22 disposals including eight contested.

McNeil is training with you guys from tomorrow. Flying up to Sydney with his Bushies teammate Sam Reid. I've heard the Swans will definitely rookie him, but I guess you can never be sure until the actual rookie draft.

FWIW, here's a local article written pre-draft on him:

http://www.bordermail.com.au/news/l...-has-worked-for-ultimate-pay-off/1688469.aspx

Well rookie him if Panos, Grimes and Carey are gone.

If not well probably take him with a 2nd pick but I doubt he'd be there by than either.

does anyone may chuck playfair a lifeline ala Thornton. Give him time off the main list o keep working the injuries and come back to reserves to slowly rebuild?

Sydney will be able to preselect Dylan McNeil as a NSW player at the start of the rookie draft. The Swans can then use their last rookie draft selection to pick him up.

If McNeil agrees to being selected by the Swans and they want him he is virtually certain to be with the Swans.

The only potential roadblock is if a team selects McNeil in the preseason draft. Unlikely but it could happen.

Picking up a player as good as McNeil with our last rookie pick - this years trading and drafts keeps getting better.

I really feel Playfair's days are numbered, but wouldnt be surprised if he was offered an off-field role if another club doesnt pick him up.

Mate, if we got McNeil and Panos, Grimes or Dare it'll almost be better than the actual draft.LOL

Does anybody know what Matthew Beckmans is up to? I remember watching him in the NAB Cup, he kick a miracle goal on the run 50m out from the boundary.
Quote" Can he, Can he, He can, bends it like Beckmans"
