Roast So, when does Burgess start getting some scrutiny?

So many of our players are playing timidly at the moment (or unmotivated as Schulzy mentioned above) to be the one who goes in runs their guts out, gets the ball and cleanly clears the contest, lay tackles, makes repeat efforts, keeps their concentration AND makes a decisive forward push under their own volition (rather than pass the buck with an under pressure handball to another player).

There were countless examples of this today

  • 3-4 Port players sitting off Giants, trying to harry them rather than going balls to the wall and causing a spillage - why not when you're that far down...
  • Getting stuck in no man's land between switching and playing tight on your man
  • 'Moving the play on' with a quick handball - but really just taking the pressure off your shoulders and lumping it on to your mate's --> Looking at you Hoff!
The only thing I got out of today was Jasper's performance. He was the only one with the cojones to run, carry and deliver confidently - I thought he was fantastic in a back 6 that was completely swamped for huge amounts of the game.

Apart from that christ we're a long way of the mark and I don't know what we can do about it.

When do questions start getting asked of our fitness regime?

I say another bad loss next week in ANZAC round and the week after that, and Kochie and KT start an internal review of everything and everyone, where nobody's job is safe at the end of said review.
We had a shocking 2015, 2016 looks like it's going to be more of the same. Instead of letting it fester and hoping it'll sort it self they need to proactively and aggressively go about it and be ruthless about it.

I have little hope that Hinkley will make any changes after listening to his post match.
I'm sure if I sit there and find any players to listen to after the shit they served up to fans today, that it'll be more of the same crap.

Kochie and KT need to step in soon.

Pittard and Hombsch are our only afl standard backmen. There are arguments for and against with Broadbent but I think he is an afl standard player. Apart from debutants and guys with less than 50 games, the other defenders are not afl standard. I'm hoping that the boys we have in the ranks will become afl standard soon.

Elephant in the room. We are slow, can't run, lack core strength, can't stick tackles. Teams out muscle us in the middle and glide past us on the outside. Its been this way for 18 months now.

We, and He can't live off 3 months of football at the start of 2014 any more. Since then, we've been nowhere physically.

When do questions start getting asked of our fitness regime? We still look and play like a pack of middle distance runners.
Just off chance.
How did Liverpool go over his much heralded tenure there? He was replaced pretty quickly

We certainly need Austin and Bonner and Clurey to come on FAST

Too many weights, not enough speed work.
Nope, not enough weights to build up size and strength.
Yes not enough speedwork.
Too much endurance running by some players - others need it.
Not enough chemical assistance like the clubs that have 190cm and 92-95kg mid fielders who run at pace all day and dont quit and smash in and win more clearances than they lose.
Too much concentration on soccer non combat sport running and fitness than running and combat sport fitness.

Refusing to pay Andrew Russell an extra $20k after we won the flag to help him and his wife with childcare costs of having 2 very young kids as the grandparents and other family to help out were living in Melbourne, will probably go down as the greatest **** up Port has ever made and still might be our biggest **** up in our history in 2070 when we celebrate our bicentennary.

Burgess would be at the bottom of the list for me...

At the top the coach & coaching staff

2nd the leadership group which has been nothing short of abysmal

I saw on more than one occasion boak hartlett and Ebert just jog while their opponents sprint passed them while a dbj or pittard busted their arse to cover for them..

Trengove Jonas just freaking horrible...

We will probably drop neade and amon then say "take that team"...with a smug look on our faces

Cant blame burgo - its not his fault they are a bunch of lazy (mentally soft) from runners who rely on the same 4/5 players every week doing all the work.
Of course you can blame him if he has ****ed up the fitness preparation of the players. Falloon ****ed it up and got the arse. Burgess is accountable for his share, just like everyone else.

That's simplistic.

If they were properly fit, they probably wouldn't look as lazy.

Disagree. as some commented elsewhere. at one point guys like Hamish, Boak and Ebo where just plodding along whilst a bunch of GWS players ran away with the ball, now Pittard and DBJ had no problems running and applying pressure (as the went on and did all day).

That is mental and they are doing it because Hinkley does Sweet **** all about it and picks those guys every week.

Again NAB 1 the young guys had no problem playing the game out and running…Its all mental and a result of our coaches. Which will be evident when ken picks almost the same team as he did all of last year.

Why not through in some young guys who will try their guts out and "NEVER GIVE UP" which ken loves to say even though it carrys no meaning with hi
