Roast So, when does Burgess start getting some scrutiny?

Our performance against the Tigers is a tick for him IMO. Our players haven't lost the physical ability to run hard, get numbers to contests and support each other. They just ... weren't. It's really hard to explain.
I think we also fielded a team more in keeping with the style we're trying to play. The bare basics key position set up allowed us to have more run around the ball.

Guys like Ebert and O Shea cover a heap of ground which provides an outlet when we have the ball, and pressure when we don't. I think when we have enough of these guys playoff reasonably it helps with our overall pace.

Will be interesting if we go in with minimal changes this week then.

One thing that was interesting this week was that White highlighted a lack of experience within our fitness department, when he said it was the first torn peck any of the fitness staff have had to deal with.

Are we hiring exclusively uni students or something?

In 2013/14 our fitness really looked like an unfair advantage over most clubs. Our last quarters were unbelievable. If we were behind by a few goals I always thought we had a big chance to win.

What the hell happened?

If we want to make a statement as a football club a good place to start would be giving a big "**** you" to Hawthorn and get him back at any cost.
Unfortunately we made one a week after the 2004 flag when we said no to his extra $20k request. As I have written before it might well be the biggest **** up the club has made in 147 year history and by the time 2070 rolls around and we celebrate our bicentenary it still might be the top of the list.

Burgess is so locked in with all the other shit they've set up for him it's just not gonna happen.
Yep. But maybe we let him become the professor and teach students and let Russell run the Footy department!

Tell Burgess to p**s off and fund his own grandiose university training scheme.

And yeah, I'm aware of the above but bloody hell we've been sucked into some non productive on field schemes.

We need to get rid of those virtual reality goggles quick smart. They aren't doing what they are expected to do. Our players seem even more confused than ever with their roles and the lower amount of actual game practice is not preventing wear and tear or injuries. I know we are trying to be cutting edge but don't want our players used as guinea pigs any longer. They are underperforming and we have one of the worst injury lists in the AFL. Replace them with Real rather than simulated training and give them adequate rest and recovery afterwards in sleep rooms and flotation pods etc. Works for the Crows.

I know for a fact we are in the massage therapist department, we are using about 85% students. There are about 3 or 4 non student therapists, which all the players request due them actually being able to do there job. These 3 or 4 guys have been there since 2013 and since then the club has slowly reduced the amount of paid massage therapists. In comparison back in 13/14 we had no "volunteer uni students". Go figure....

Burgess is very good apparently because he was at Liverpool. A team who are the greatest underachievers in world sport with the cash at their disposal.
Nice jab Evertonian.

Mm they choked. It was terrible in 2005 but that has nothing to do with where we are now. Unfortunately Ken and KT have sold us a lemon.

Well, back to REH's first point, had we paid Andrew Russell what he wanted to begin with, the club doesn't wander through County Comerford, Falloontown and Burgessville for a start.

A decade of players with strong, hardened, AFL-ready bodies instead of wiry, light and now broken down frames would go alright.

I understand it could be perceived that way but did Burgess do a great job at Liverpool? I guess we can only judge on face value. In the 2 years Burgess was there Liverpool performed below expectation, sacked 2 managers and when Brendan Rogers got the job he didn't want Burgess.
