Roast So, when does Burgess start getting some scrutiny?

No we were cooked round 1 last year to.

We have no explosive speed our entire team is one gear and for most of the season look like they are running in mud compared to opponents. Even Wingard looks slow moving around this year.

So this year just on soft tissue is it:
Gray
Hombsch x2
Jonas
Hartlett

Think there is more?

Aiden Johnson

Its ok guyzzzz...we're building for the finals it's all part of the 5 year plan.

KT will pull a hamstring walking to Burgos office to find out wtf is going on!!

Perhaps Burgo's idea of beefing up our training so that we would find it easier in games has backfired?

Remember that poem 'IF" posted by REH a few months back...well Burgo..good luck...
..."If you can keep your head when all about you
are losing theirs and blaming it on you..."
Definitely some scrutiny required of our HPDept.
Maybe you read it a few months ago. ;) I did a quick search and have only posted Rudyard Kipling's IF once, back in 2007 - July 16th as we were trying to get 2nd spot.

If you watched Wimbeldon you probably heard John Newcombe quote it. He likes doing it each year as a couple of lines from the poem is written over the player's entrance to Wimbledon's Centre Court.

Hopefully the "changes" that are being alluded to include the removal of our fitness guru. Find him another laboratory for his experimentation. Employing the Frankenstein philosophy he may be able to create a human that has no fitness boundaries, breaking points and cannot be overtrained.

Wonder if the new weights regime has anything to do with the hammie epidemic this year ?
To look at our size, you wouldn't think we do any weights, and that's how it looks when most of the other teams push us around.
So no strength advantage as well as no aerobic advantage, quite a few soft tissue injuries; yet Burgess said by the fourth year he'd have us at peak fitness!

Shout-out to Hodges 153! who wrote this early last year:

And a few months later we couldn't run with the might of Brisbane and Carlton.

With the benefit of hindsight on two years of failure and with Travis Boak running around like he has the hips, hammies and heart muscle of a 56-year-old man, it's hard not to revisit Burgess' punishing summers and wonder what it's all for.

Because there is clearly no tangible advantage to be had over competitors by flogging our guys in such a way, especially if Carlton are going to overhaul our 3-goal lead, while down to 2 fit men on their bench, with Cripps and Kreuzer both visibly hobbling about with knee injuries.

Quoted because someone just liked this and I forgot I posted it in the first place and now I'm doubly disheartened thanks a lot guy

Answer: We don't actually work that hard in games because our players are lazy shits and as a result, all the advantage we work for in the off-season evaporates because we are not maintaining the fitness.

But they reportedly love the punishment.

Why would they then shirk actual games, when games are way more fun than sunburn and vomiting by the side of the uni-loop?

Because they can't be actively guided and hand held to keep going in the middle of a quarter, basically.

I'm inclined to disbelieve it. We're overcooking the players.

Lobbe, Hartlett, Gray, Boak, Carlile, Hombsch, Trengove, Polec and now even Wingard - Wingard!... Haaaawingaaard! - have all succumbed to more than just your unlucky 1-week pings now.

Does Andrew Russell smash Sam Mitchell like this?

He's like, 43, and can still cover every blade of grass while amassing 30+ on the weekly.

Sat on this one for a couple of years but a good friend of mine worked with an ex colleague of Burgess in Sydney.

Reckons Burgess has no real understanding on how far athletes can be pushed as he has his own theories and are basically all experimental with no proof.

Pretty much said he's a rogue. Now initially, as this guy was under Burgess, it sounded like sour grapes at the time.

Maybe there is some truth ??

We are the Port Adelaide Soccer Club.

Well, given he is a researcher (phd) and is now running his own degree he would always be trying to re-invent the wheel, I would strongly suggest he may utilise evidence based stuff and then test the barriers and try new things as well. It's not out of the question that he has this balance wrong and we are trying too hard to re-invent the wheel instead of just doing what is proven to work and focusing on that.

This would be the exact same concern with Mladen. Both he and Burgess are research and development orientated.
