Apparently the fruit tingles have 12 masseurs at the club - this would help significantly with rehab. Don't think to Power can afford to have that many on board though.

Other than game day, and even then it's unlikely, when would you need to have 12 players having a massage simultaneously?

The Crows need to stop whinging about equalisation tax, or whatever it is called, if they can employ 12 full time masseurs.

I doubt that they are all full time. There would be days when only the players in rehab for example, would be at the club anyway.

I doubt it too. It is probably more a case of the AFC utilise the services of 12 different masseuses than them having 12 masseuses at the club as was stated.

It happened last year.

Chad missed a considerable chunk of the preseason, yet made the AA team and was a clutch Q3/Q4 performer.

Also at the games looked noticeably like he was running above the ground compared to the rest of our players looking like they were stepping in concrete each step.

...and the sleep rooms, and club paid access to the sleep pods;) yes, yes, I know, I am a cracked record:drunk:

44 players on the list - 12 masseurs - 30 minutes per massage = maximum of one hour wait to get treatment after a training session, where muscles tighten up due to crystallisation of the fibers due to lactic acid build up.

Adelaide can afford to have 12 masseuses on staff because they boned their fitness guy after he got them to an acceptable level and most likely hired Burton on half the salary. 1 massage therapist at $70 per hour doing at most 1 hour of work a day = $70. Multiply that by 12 = $840 per day. Multiply that by 365 days = $310k approx.

If you were guaranteed $500 a week for working 7 hours, you'd jump at it I'm sure. Smart move by Adelaide and I'd be doing the same if I was Port because the advantages out weigh the cost IMO.

The Crows outsource some of their physio to a group called MyPhysio. I doubt they'd have 12 employed masseuses.

I know one of said masseurs

Cruisey af job, gets paid less than 42k pa though, lives at the club
Pretty sure it's only like 6 of them non gameday too

GPS numbers are vague and only loosely related to performance. All they really indicate is work rate. You could run a marathon every game but if you aren't running to the right places at the right times you will still be next to useless.
They also track where your running and plot it as you go

When you can then put Them all on the same data plot
Watch it in conjunction with the gameday footage you'd get a fair good indication

Sports 'Science' is rarely evidence based. You just can't run large, ethical and quality trials on athletes. It's why Men's Health runs an article every week on some super food endorsed by some super coach from the NFL, NBA, EPL, etc. Recently it was beetroot juice.

There are also many variables, does a knee reco count as a black mark against the fitness department? What if it happens again? What about the hamstring injury they are predisposed to?

We get 70% game time out of Ollie, do we slim him done and get more game time and risk losing his ability to crash in? Ebert runs himself into the ground each week and his skills drop off, is that poor fitness or not knowing when to run or, perhaps, just the nature of Ebert playing AFL?

Then there are different loads during the season. Has Burgo got us peaking in September and, therefore, the heavy overtraining will be for naught?

There is also the mental fatigue of overtraining, it grinds you down and burns you out. You physically and mentally cannot get through your work and you don't enjoy it.

Whilst I do think Burgo and the middle distance runner physique we are prioritising have a role in our current state, I do think he has the talent, knowledge and ability to help get the club back up. A rethink and a rejig are in order, not burn the house down, sack em all attitude.

Without power output data they're completely useless. A player would walk several km's per game.

Now Burgo is taking Wines and others to the US for a fitness camp. More junkets than a politician that guy

It will be interesting to see who goes with him and then track their "improvement" next year compared to those who didn't spend the extra time with Burgess.

Honestly I thnk it's just a big junket that they can write off as "work". They'll go to NFL and MLB games. Do a little bit of training with gatorade and write the whole lot off.

Would be annoying if true. There are so many nice things we could put that extra money towards, such as paying out Ken's contract.

My Everton allegiance meant my criticism of Burgess was dismissed previously. Speaking of dismissed that is basically what Liverool did to Burgess when his role was reviewed and what a poor job he was doing. Liverpool did the right thing and let Burgess say he was returning home for family reasons to help him save face.

That's completely innaccurate. I've spoken to burgo about this and he quit because the soccer coaches are so single minded they complete disregard anything he had to say (or the science in gerneral for that matter). He was there in the background doing work and not being used. He wanted out because they didn't use him.

Which, to be honest all sports scientists take a back seat to the actual coach. If a drill is meant to go for 18 minutes to get the required running in and the coach isn't happy with it it will go for 25. The sports science guys have to re jig things so everyone gets enough training but not too much. This is true for fitness coaches and strength and conditioning coaches. They are an aid to the sports coaches and have to fit into their show. Essentially what I'm saying is burgo can be over ruled by the coaching staff.
