Shuffling everybody down the order unfairly punishes every other team.

I would be happy with an extra 2nd rounder at the very most.
I was unaware that giving them a 2nd rounder would prevent all other teams being shuffled down.

I think they should be given a mid first round pick but be given the conditions that they must trade it for a player.

Giving them endless picks in the draft won't help as we've seen them become a feeder club; they need good experienced players instead.

No, this won't work. As outlined earlier, if they're forced to trade their picks, this would provide the perfect opportunity for other clubs to really screw them over - they would be lucky to get the equivalent of 2nd or 3rd round value players (like Weller) in return for their high first round picks because true high level players would simply refuse to be traded there.

Whats the point of giving them more picks if the players aren't staying there. ...
This year we have the highly unusual circumstance of having the top two draft prospects also being best mates since childhood. I think this rare situation will influence the AFL to give the GC the opportunity (which they will no doubt take) to take them both as a package deal on the premise them being best mates greatly increases the chances of them both staying, even if they lose King next year to play with or at least be near his twin brother. These two staying together will then provide a platform for the Suns to develop with some quality players that stay.

It's for this reason IMO the AFL will allow GC the first 2 picks due to this one off circumstance.

Hodge, Roughead, Ellis board.

If those rules were back GC would get pick 1 now, Carlton would have got pick 19 last year, Brisbane nothing the year before that.

So the only thing the rule change has done is the AFL now pick and choose who they feel like giving compo to.
Correct. And that's still better than the laughable system that your club directly benefited from. Really puts in perspective how silly the complaints are.

Adults are capable of making new friends too.

The old PP system would arguably work better in the current AFL context because all clubs have now seen the impact of tanking and the residual effect of creating a culture of mediocrity.

Wonder though if clubs are tempted to revert back to some of those losing behaviours to facilitate getting a PP.

Many clubs blood young players at the end of the year regardless, rest players, get them into surgery early etc, but does this ramp up if they’re in the PP zone?

Why would a Saints fan care ? You are giving up your first pick this year for Brad Hill anyway? What an odd attititude to have

They should get a top pick.
But I would think they need to get some mature age stars into the club rather than purely targeting new youth stars to replace the old. The culture is non-existent.
GWS have established themselves as they have quality players/faces we now associate with their club (Coniglio /Kelly /Cameron /Davis/Ward etc).

I honestly can't picture a single Gold Coast player at the moment. They're basically a free agency draft pool for Victoria at the moment.

Brad Crouch should be high up on their list. Even if that means paying a bit overs.

Both Crows and Port were willing to give GC the world for picks 2 or 3 last year and they said no. They chose to draft youth for the future rather than trade players in for immediate results.

They made their bed.

Giving them extra picks won’t help them next season because they won’t trade them anyway so what’s the point?

In my view, one team has to be on the bottom anyway. Stop punishing other clubs for Gold Coasts mistakes.

We have gone from a completely unbiased equal system to a media driven vibe deal that no longer helps out struggling teams.

Anyone who thinks the current system is better is a moron, the compo in the old system just needed to be lowered.

3 wins or less gets you pick 19
8 wins or less in 2 years gets pick 11
12 wins or less in 3 years gets pick 1

Either that or scrap the thing full stop, only Gc, Brisbane, GWS will ever get anything as it is.

2 mid-teens picks for one of Luko or Rankine is ‘the world?’

No wonder they rightly said no.

Amazing the gall some have to criticise them while their club targets their best players, and usually gets them for unders due to their contract situation or because they’ve already given up trying to better themselves up there. (Lyons, Martin, Scrimshaw et al)

No both The Crows and Port offered The Suns crud, utterly lowball offers for picks 2 and 3. Stop try and revisit history here

The entitlement in this post is absolute nonsense. They are not obliged to do any deals with the SA clubs whatsoever.

Your mob should pay back the points from all the priority pick handouts they received, before you complain about others receiving handouts.

Gil ruled that out already. The AFL views cap concessions as being a greater evil than priority picks for some reason.
That’s why the afl are morons the priority pick will help only if it goes hand in hand with salary cap con sessions while it’s great getting two elite young players in they need 3-4 good experienced players in the 25-30 age bracket to make them at least somewhat competitive over the next two years if the floggings continues it’s just going to be a constant cycle of elite young players coming and leaving I can’t believe that people think just a priority alone is going to solve every alone thing!

If the Priority Pick isn't going to really help the Suns, why all the outrage, if not downright butthutt over the Suns getting one ?

I tend to think it's very much going to help The Suns relaunch the club in more ways than one and several Southern State Club 'bitters' are resentful of it for no legit reason I can think of other than sour grapes.

100 % agree mate someone like brad crouch would be much more helpful then a draft pick

To help the suns people need to look at the big picture there number one problem buy a mile is player retention while it’s great to bring in the number one pick what there more less doing is replacing young players that have left buy bringing in more young players with less development make no mistake if they continue to get flogged for couple more seasons king lukuious and co will leave they need salary cap consessions right now to bring in expirenced players a priority pick alone will only continue the cycle

Agree. They desperately need the pick. If nothing else but to give them more options to overhaul their list quickly. They've actively been trying to fix their woes which is why they don't have their pick 19 and 37 this year either. I don't think they should be punished purely because they're in a horrible state. AFL can't cut ties and leave them in the cold for this to work. They need to double down and try to reboot them while there is still a chance.

Their current selections (1, 15, 54, 73, 86,) doesn't give them much flexibility. Atleast with a pick 2 they have options. And I would think their best option (in a perfect world) is to trade pick 2 down into as many top 10-20 picks as they can.

Then on-trade some of those for some current and respectable players with leadership qualities. (BRouch for one, Ellis maybe another). Gold Coast surely have the cap space to afford to front-end some massive contracts for these sorts of players while their younger star are on minimum wage?

I don’t agree with the decision but I understand they need to replace talent that they keep losing (Martin is now leaving?), which as everyone agrees is GCs biggest challenge. Until they address the reason for players wanting to leave the cycle will continue.

Zero sympathy. None whatsoever.

Refused to entertain a Gary Ablett trade despite the fact he didn't want be there and had exceptional personal circumstances drawing him home.
Traded Lyons for peanuts.

GCS are shit, they deserve nothing.

They need more than picks, whats the point of picks FFS

They need salary cap releif so they can afford to pay B grade players (A graders probably wont go) overs to attract them long term and if they draft some A graders, they can then afford to pay them stupid money to stay.

Its the only way.

Such a narrow minded opinion.

Having a competitive comp is far better for the game.

Neither did Melbourne for blatant anking, but they got handouts anyway.

We went through this a few years when Brissy were near the point of needing one. Melbourne fans were the most adamant that no PP should be handed out.

Genuinely ridiculous how fired up they were about it too. Irony off the charts.
