I haven't seen much footy this year, but I did flick over to the Dogs game on Saturday night briefly. I think it was just after half time.

Anyway, the first thing I saw was this guy for St Kilda lead up at the ball and clunk it in his hands in front of his face just on the 50m line, with a defender just on his tail.

"Who's this dude?" I thought. Looks like Wayne Carey!

And without even flinching, he makes it clear to everyone in the ground that he's going to kick the goal. Not just have a shot - but kick the goal.

"Who does this guy think he is??" I thought to myself. I mean, he's 55m out, and he doesn't even turn around and look for a short option?

So anyway, he goes back and drills it.

"Ok.." I thought, ".. actually who is this guy? I don't recognise him, he must be new"

Then I found out that he's just turned 18, and is in his second game!!??

Wow.

These young guys getting 30 dinky little sniffs early in their careers can be a good sign, and looks impressive - but 18 year Olds strutting back for set shots from 55m and drilling them?? That's the stuff that really makes you pay attention.

Your post seems a bit tongue in cheek but that kick ended up being about 65m. It left his boot just on the line of the center square.
It's not tongue in cheek at all.

Honestly, an 18yo with that sort of mindset already, in only his 2nd game??!

That is genuinely exciting.

As I said, he didn't strut back to take his kick like he was going to have a shot - he was kicking the goal. He knew it. And everyone watching knew it too.

That's swagger.

Watching from afar, St Kilda have seemed so mentally fragile for such a long time.

I haven't seen him play at all aside from that, so I might be overreacting - but it seemed the exact opposite to mentally fragile.

No hesitation. Supreme confidence in his ability. Wanted to own the moment. Didn't flinch.

His grandfather Peter was a very good SANFL player many years ago, hard as a cat’s head.

Father had a good SANFL carer as well and played a few games for Western Bulldogs/Footscray in the AFL. Has good football pedigree.

Nice to finally have a player that is confident at kicking for goal and rarely misses, they have been few and far between at our club in recent years.

Only early days yet but he's an exciting prospect as a tall midfielder that can also play forward and is already an important part of our team at just 18.

Probably has one of the biggest ceilings of any of the top 10 drafted last season.

My Jack Bowes trade dream was McKenzie + Poo.

Someone who is a safe as houses 200+ gamer and the guy who if everything falls into place could be one of the best players in the comp.

Happy to settle with CMac.

He was never in any trouble but he was asked who he would take the no.1 pick and he said himself.

He's putting his money where his mouth is with his performances so far, definitely worthy of a no.1 pick.

The great man didn’t rate him … so …

He would want to hope that Tsatas is a gun or he could be looking very silly for overlooking Phillipou.

Still amazed he slipped down to 10.

Some other clubs, Essendon in particular, might be wondering what if.
