Yeah that's relevant

It was crude and the remark about Collingwood is unnecessary but the point stands - fantasy football points shouldn't be used as a guide as to who to put in defence.

A cheap mark and switch kick under no pressure is worth more than a tackle that stops a forward running into an open goal, for example, in Dream Team terms.

McGovern's worth is measure on the amount of intercept marks and intercept possessions and his ability to negate the opponent's second/third tall forward very well. He should be considered for the AA squad of 40 - in fact he made the AA team last year despite not exactly accumulating the fantasy football points.

Why Jeff Gartlett over Gray?

Why Jeff Gartlett over Gray?

It's a tough one. I reckon Garlett has been a bit more consistent this year. That's not to say Gray hasn't been good, but Garlett was fairly average before this year. He's easily having the best season of his career. There's still another nine games to go so it can certainly go and Gray is still certainly in the mix if he keeps his form up.

Why either of them over a third tall?

What third tall forward has been good this year?

Gunston: Hasn't kicked enough goals or been good this year to warrant selection
Stringer: Been disappointing and fairly average in a lot of games
Membrey: Hasn't played as well as last year to be in the mix

That leaves only maybe Tom Lynch (Adelaide) as as option, but I doubt they'll pick him

No Yeo, controversial

As in a third tall player, not a pseudo tall forward who gets the third defender.

AA by DT:

B: Lloyd Docherty Laird
HB: Adams Roberton Simpson
C: Merrett Gibbs Zorko
HF: Yeo MaCrae B Hill
F: Billings Franklin Cameron
Foll: Grundy Mitchell Dangerfield

IC: Duncan Martin Pendlebury Murphy

That is probably the most unaccountable backline I've ever seen, would get smashed out of the park.

Whatever your personal biases, a team without Yeo is just not correct. 3rd in the coaches votes behind Martin and Danger. An absolute lock.

To be a third tall in the AA team you don't have to be a third tall of your particular team. Pretty unbalanced team IMO, to many attacking hbf's plus don't need Garlett, Betts and Green in the same team. Can put Cameron on a flank and get another tall in plus a good one on one defender.

This.

If Richmond had 3 Alex Rances (lord ****ing help us) they'd play 3 Alex Rances, not Rance, Astbury and Grimes. Rance, McGovern, Hurley etc. can all play as a third tall. Most third talls are guys who aren't capable of playing a key defensive post, so if you come up against a side with 3 genuine key forwards it creates a mismatch. Teams are constrained by a salary cap so generally don't have multiple top line key defenders.

Matthew Scarlett and Darren Glass were both top line full backs who look on less and less defensive responsibility late in their careers. West Coast 2005/6 was Glass at FB with Hunter as an undersized CHB and Jones as a third tall. West Coast 2011/12 was Mackenzie at FB taking the best forward then by 2013/14 it was Mackenzie and Brown with Glass as the third tall. Scarlett did similarly playing off Lonergan/Taylor in the key posts.

Cameron, Franklin, Kennedy etc. are all mobile forwards. I'd rather pick those 3 on form so far this year in the same forward 6 than just 2 of them and Stringer or Gunston because they are specifically a 2nd/3rd tall forward.

What is the point of your post? That is what I was saying about the poster that suggesting because none of stringer, gunston ect were in form so you couldn't pick them as a third tall so he was saying he would have four smalls instead. I'm saying you can have daniher, buddy and cameron in the same ALL AUSTRALIAN team even though none of them are third talls for their respective teams.
