And it was played in wet weather. It was never going to be high scoring in the rain.

Anyone who spouts that high scoring instantly automatically = excitement can instantly stop being listened to.

Daisy, Paxy, Elise and Meg Downie make the All Australian Team.

Aliesha Newman won the GOTY.

Daisy also won Best Captain in the AFLW players' awards, with Paxy coming second in the MVP.

Mel Hickey is defecting to Geelong according to the HS. It's behind a pay wall though so unable to link.

Col Garland has also stepped down as VFLW coach.

The more teams that come into AFLW the lower the quality as the handful of girls that can actually play are spread across the comp. Since its starting from a low base to begin with that's not a good thing.

All reported today...

Damien Keeping (ex-Carlton) will coach Casey Demons.

Lily Mithen has signed on with Melbourne for 2019.

Mel Hickey, Richelle Cranston, Anna Teague and Erin Hoare all signed with Geelong for AFLW 2019.

I don't think it will have a huge impact to be honest. It will only affect Vic this year, the other teams will get better. Also, there are in the region of 30 of this year's TAC girls on VFL lists already. Add in those TAC girls from last year that didn't get selected, but will now have a years seniors under their belt.

Then add in the mature agers good enough that are floating around, etc. Vic can find another 60 players good enough to not dilute the talent.

The effect will be more to flatten off the rise in standard in Vic for 12 months. Some individual teams may lose out and go backwards. Definitely harder for a Vic team to win it, but I think that will be because it will be hard for those teams to match the rise in standard elsewhere.

So glad we held onto Mithen. That's huge. She's the future. Cats will be annoyed that they played that poorly by pressuring Mithen to chose Geelong if she wanted to play VFLW there too. Failed. She went to Darebin and stayed with the MFC.

We will miss Hickey though for that maturity and hardness.

Rocky no surprise. Mel is a bit, but she's also 34 coming off her second knee.

I was resigned to losing Rocky. That might cause a reshuffle of the forward line which may benefit the promising Eden Zanker. I thought we might be able to keep Mel and expected to lose Lily Mithen. Sorry to see Mel go but keeping Mithen is huge. Reckon we can cover the other two Geelong bound girls.

Damn, was hoping we'd keep Rocky somehow. Erin Hoare could become something, but right now Lauren Pearce is a much superior ruck. Teague looked Ok in the matches she got towards the end of this season. Thought Mithen would go, so that's a bonus.

Hickey is a surprise. Last year, when discussing with some people the possibility of losing Cranston, Mithen, Hoare and Teague to Geelong I joked that Mel had Geelong connections so we could lose her too. But as has been mentioned she'll turn 34 next season, second ACL, and I thought she was starting to struggle a little this year. Is it possible she knows she's nearing the end and if she goes now Melbourne will get decent compensation so she's doing us a solid? Though as far as I know nothing has yet been said about compensation.

Her family is on one of the stands at KP...I don't blame her at all for that opportunity.

Going to be interesting to see if she can get fit in time.
