The Melbourne Hawks

What is the regional population in Victoria? In WA and SA it is negligable in when comparing it to the Cities, especially WA. I would guess there would be more than a million living in Rural Victoria who support the Melbourne based clubs, People like WCE Phil forget that the East coast of Australia is not a desert. And while Perth does well for itself, Victoria, NSW and QLD is where a vast majority of Australian live. The regional populations in all those states are larger than Perth, and in NSW and QLD's case significantly larger than the whole state of WA.
BTW. that Jumper was an absolute stinker. There was no way I was going to support the merged side.

So anyone who oposes the Hawks selling home games interstate, or even wants to ask a question about it at the AGM is a troll.

Interesting.

What's the matter, Was it your alias account?

Tip: When setting up a trolling account, try to let it age a few months first. trolling in November, when your start date is November is a little too obvious.

Just a bit of advice for the kiddies.

Yet the majority of the best players in the draft were from Vic and Melbourne, the biggest attendances are in Melbourne and Melbourne provides the vast bulk of TV audiences.

Chicken or egg?

Egg.

Game was invented in Melbourne.

Not sure what relevance the latter sentence has, but either way I'm thinking that there is the possibility that more teams in Vic will potentially skew the draftee numbers for a variety of reasons.

Selling our soul to Tassie, i don't think so. We play 4 home games there a year for a very tidy profit. Probably one of the main reasons we have such a strong financial base now and hence a strong coaching group, because we have been able to afford some better facilities and coaches, which is showing itself onfield with a very good team.

Next year the Hawks play in melbourne 19 times, we will have plenty of opportunity to watch them live (although only 7 will be MCG home games is the only real detriment). If you look at our draw besides Tassie we only travel interstate 3 times. This is definately the least of any other club but fortunately for us the AFL considered the Tassie trip an interstate trip despite us having the home ground advantage.

If you look at the teams we actually play there it will be Sydney, Fremantle, North and Port. Tell me how many we would get at the G for those games the the profit made. Now look at how many we get to Aurora stadium and the profit made. We don't change our colours, players, song etc etc etc just the ground we play on and this ensures the financial viability of the club for the years we have played there.

The extra revenue from about 8000 or so Tassie members helps as well.

With North now trying to ride the Tassie coatails of what the Hawks have developed don't be surprised when we sell a few home games to play in NZ. Just have a look at all the promotional work we are doing down there and we already have 3 NZ recuits in the club. Note we will probably do this when the Tassie deal runs out in 5 years.

Bottom line is Hawthorn is a Victorian club.

Games shouldn't be sold to Tasmania or anywhere else. Other clubs realise this. No other powerful clubs do it.

It cheapens our brand.

Feel free other supporters to make comment on this.

Furthermore if Kennett was such a great President instead of signing on for another deal (which we're going to feel the affect of via the fixture FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS. Some ripper home games next year! And please don't speak of replacement games what a joke. GA up on level 4. I'm so happy to do this!! But wait the club releases the Legends membership that gives you a reserved seat at replacement games. Wait for it. On level 4!!!) in Tasmania. Kennett had the potential to be Hawthorn's greatest ever President, by using the previous Tasmanian money (again not voted for by members) to cut the apron strings and make us wealthy in our home state. As Tasmania was always short term! What happened, people got greedy and lazy. Surely Kennett could've used his previously political career to further set us up in Melbourne where Hawthorn is from. Oh sorry that's right he was someone that supported the merger. Oh that didn't work lets just relocate the club with no vote. Funny how many games were first played in Tasmania? Any h&a games? See the landscape changing? Again these same people who were vocal at the Camberwell civic centre, are they happy as we got a premiership but in the mean time Hawthorn is being relocated.

Not everyone is happy with what's happened after 1996. Hawthorn's soul has been sold but hey the money keeps rolling in. But that's all that counts right. Shareholder returns

Hawthorn needs to reassess what its values are. Our motto for next year should "Will travel for money"

Hey look everybody!

Someone created a new Bigfooty alias to troll Hawthorn.

How cute.

How predictable.

Hey look everybody!

Someone who's a Tasmanian and really should keep his mouth closed. As he doesn't realise what a great deal his getting.

How cute

Luckily the powers-that-be at Hawthorn aren't as blinkered, close-minded and unrealistic as this.

Replacement games are 4 MCG games not including collingwood.

You should be able to find seats on level 1, 2 or 2a as these clubs dont block out the whole of 1 and 2 at the punt road end like hawthorn do

Reserved seat will be needed against collingwood later in the year. Maybe carlton too

So if you were on the Indian pacific board you'd sell home games into Melbourne? Who's really being unrealistic here?

You. West Coast are not in an over-saturated market.

You. West Coast are not in an over-saturated market.

Does Hawthorn not see themself at the top of the tree in the over saturated market? The amount of references to we can run with Collingwood from Jeff's says its all.

Bottom line is had Hawthorn had a real President candidate (pitched Hawthorn's bad draw because of Tasmania) and not Lord  Newbold wouldn't have got in. Hawthorn is going into its worst season coming up for the Victorian member. If Hawthorn wasn't a premiership threat we'd be dead or relocated. This we have to thank Jeff for. But wait!! We have another 4 more years of this. Oh the legacy will be long remembered

Wishing doesn't make it so. You are not Collingwood or Essendon. This isn't the VFL, you can develop a market outside Victoria, and now your Victorian members have a very well placed and well run club, due in large part to its far-sighted Tasmanian deal.

If you want to follow a Victorian powerhouse like Collingwood, then follow Collingwood.

Wishing? Sorry that's not what comes from Jeff's mouth! Jeff consider Hawthorn above the other two  I realise this isn't the VFL but simple math how many years in Tasmania 10 years profits each year averaging $1.5million? Where's the money Jeff? Hawthorn doesn't need Tasmania its HFCs board that scares its members into believing so.

I was surprised that someone of Lord's experience did not pick up on the fact that Hawthorn stuffed up by extending the Tasmanian deal against the AFL's wishes. The reality is Hawthorn is and will be punished financially by the AFL via the fixture and club funding distribution for the duration of the deal. They will find themselves in 5 years time with significantly less bargaining power than they had this time around (and with more teams competing to call the MCG home).

Kennett took the easy option (or perhaps the bullish option) by agreeing to a watered down sponsorship extension with Tasmania; they should have negotiated with the AFL/MCC an 9-11 home game MCG stadium deal (with the Kangaroos taking over the Tasmanian games as per the AFL's wishes). It will most likely happen in 5 years time anyway, but the bargaining position of the Hawks will not be strong.

An opportunity missed for the club, and a massive oversight by Lord in his dodgy campaign for presidency.

Very very well said

Off topic if aus had grown up with just one code and no tyranny of distance, Market forces ruling like soccer leagues - theyd all be in Sydney and melbourne - no doubt
Brisbane perth adelade might have one each if they are lucky.
Such was the historical dominance of Sydney and Melboune

WA SA people complaining about 'national representation; conveniently forget NSW population whan they create some 'ideal model'

Theres examples everywhere

Glasgow Edinburgh dominating Scottish soccer

London and NW dominating EPL

Sao Paulo and Rio dominating Brasilian soccer

You have a lot of stupid arguements but this one I always find the stupidest. Your 6 NSW/5 Vic/1Qld/1WA/1SA model doesn't happen in any other sport, why would it happen in your dreamworld?

There a 5/20 London teams in the EPL. Birmingham is the second largest city in the UK yet they only have 1 team in the EPL at the moment. Liverpool has a population 2 thirds that of Adelaide yet has 2 teams in the richest league in the world. Glasgow and Edinburgh have 2 each in their league, an Edinburgh team hasn't won the league in over 50 years.

I'd rather read about why Hawthorn are an AFL super power.

We all have an opinion but your response doesnt disprove any thing I have put

NW of england has up to 7 teams depending on year add that to london at 5 ands its a disproportionate number out of just two conurbations 12 from 20

As for the glasgow edinburgh conurbation - most of the scottish teams are in it - not all called glasgow and none called edinburgh - but theres also only one melbourne fc too

You dont even discuss brasil which is closer to the aus model in terms of distances between cities

In EPL terme your argument is : "Why cant tassie/isle of wight have an AFL/EPL team its not a true national comp till that happens"

Yes it does. Birmingham is England's second largest city yet only has 1 team out of 20. What's with those market forces??? Surley they should have 3 or 4???

Have you ever met some birmingham people ?

That should explain it

If you cant see why the north west dominates, and not birmingham, Ill never be able to explain why to you.

If you said to UK fans why dont birmingham teams have more representation you'd get the answer "simply not good enough"

Sydney doesnt have AFL teams historically, but has a dozen or so NRL teams

Melbourne and sydney would dominate - for the same reasons they dominated as cities througout australian history
