The obscure XI's you've always wanted to make but never found the appropriate place thread

Joe Dawes and Ashley Noffke were real good players, but don't think you can fit them both in.
I'd probably put Noffke in at 8. Who bats at 5 though?

just quick scan of the shield final scorecards and Foley played 6 in at least couple (probably more) but he was probably considered the weak link in the team at the time.

Would have Di Venuto in for Klinger and Siddons in for Shane Lee. Bichel got a decent run, probably switch him for an Adam Dale or Matthew Inness.
I'd put Shaun Young in front of Shane Lee.

But I'm biased. :)

Jamie Cox incredibly unlucky not to make the home grown side. Either Jackson Bird or Rod Tucker would be better picks than Marsh @ No. 8.

An Aussie XI of golden age players which never got much of a run in Tests, if at all...

Jamie Cox
Martin Love
Michael Klinger
Stuart Law*
Brad Hodge
Shane Lee
Tim Neilsen+
Ian Harvey
Bradley Hogg
Andrew Bichel
Damien Wright

Wanted to include Jamie Siddons here, but he was in his prime a decade earlier.
In addition to this, here's an England XI from the same time period which should have played more Tests considering their selection woes of the time.

Nick Knight
Alistair Brown
Matthew Maynard
Chris Adams
Neil Fairbrother
Ben Hollioake
Chris Read+
Robert Croft
Alex Tudor
Dean Headley
Ryan Sidebottom

Not really an obscure XI but in the Lara thread, I said if I was picking a team of the best I've seen Lara would be first picked and that got me thinking about who else?

Steve Smith is almost first picked in a 'best I've seen' team.

He’s in mine but a lot of people would leave him out because his career is still in progress and also a lot of us are waiting to see what the back end of his career brings because he is SO reliant on what is frankly probably the best eye in the last 70 years of cricket - when that starts to let him down a bit more there is a strong suspicion that his technique is going to be fairly ineffective. It will be fascinating to watch how he copes because so far he’s found an answer to every question he’s been asked as a test batsman
