Well, I’ve got enough to not have to work for a number of months but got a family and everything so will be responsible. Already found a few jobs to apply for. My experience is pretty solid and the market over here seems ok.

It’s dissapointing and you feel like a bit of a deadbeat being let go but I’ll be alright. As suggested, I’ll probably at least take it easy for a week or so and think about it.

I’m actually kind of over the corporate grind. Considering taking a pay-cut and just working closer to home where I can pick our boys up from school and enjoy myself a bit more.

I understand how devastating being laid off can be - my Dad was dumped from the Ford factory here in Geelong in 2014, it was not a great time for both my parents, myself and my siblings

It can be a pretty worrying time for you and your kids (I'm not sure how old your kids are, but I was 12 when Dad got the boot). Hopefully I can offer a little advice in regards to yourself and your family

The best thing you can do is try to remain upbeat and positive. Rather than looking at it as leaving one job, think of it as an opportunity to explore something new and something you really want to pursue. Take some time to find something you will enjoy and what will suit your family well. Taking some time to reflect on what you've achieved and what experience you've gained from your previous employment may help when your looking for a new job

Even when your not thinking about the future, and your in a period where you need some time for reflection about your previous job, try to remain as happy as possible, especially in front of your kids. It worried me when I saw my Dad so angry and sad, so I'd try to make sure your kids are supported through the process. It may seem like kids may be immune from the world around them, but helping them through the process is important - I got pretty miserable when Dad was out of work, a little positivity and some kind words never go astray

Also, one thing that really helps is making sure you try to keep your life as normal as possible as well - this is what my Dad did pretty well. We still went to all the Cats games like we normally would, and not a whole lot changed (granted, he also received a nice payout). It will help ease the transition - rather than completely hitting rock bottom, you will just dip down a little, and spring back up with a new job

Best of luck in finding a new job Catfish Alley, I hope I've been able to offer a little insight

Retrenchment were just a part of life for me. Dad was retrenched five times. Brother once. Mum once.

That sweet spot of life where you have your family around a lot but nobody is happy and there's no money to do anything.

Said it before but when you're on a laptop , facebook chatting with someone on a mobile.

You go to reply and they start typing again already.....so you know they won't see what you post.

People that stand around filming altercations, fights and the like. Was a fight at Crown Casino were two guys were beating up a guy and his girlfriend was trying to stop it. Everyone whipped out their phone, stood there and recorded it. Either get help or try and help.

The media frenzy over Harry and Meghan touring here, made even worse with the news they are expecting a baby.

I'll be trying to avoid news bulletins until they leave the country.
I did a quick count back on fingers when I heard she was up the pole.

She's 12 weeks, how long ago did they get married? Impressive he knocked her up so quickly considering she's 37.

Conspiracy Theorists would be sad to learn 19/5 - 13/10 is more than 12 weeks.

Still, if it's a surprise short term pregnancy (say early February)....

(Actually, just hoping they have a safe and happy pregnancy of course - even better if it's kept private)

Gives the ladies something to flap their gums about for a couple of weeks. Keeps everyone on morning television employed as well
