It said on the CFC website that training would be closed after warm-ups, and that training would start at 11:15. But when I ambled over to the paddock on the dot, the lads were already lying there, stretching and waving their legs about in the sunshine.

Burns and Pendles left straight after warm-ups, which was somewhat disheartening. Nathan Brown also left soon after, but presumably to go to the Rising Star Awards, at which he polled 3 votes, even one from Robert Walls.

Dale Thomas trained with the other lads and looked perfectly fit and mobile. They had to run between vertical sticks, then pick their way though rings lyings on the ground, and he had no trouble with any of that. He did all the usual running and leaping around, and if he missed a few shots on goal, so did everyone else. Perhaps it was the fresh breeze, but the conversion rate was not encouraging.

Wakes looked very fresh and lively. He certainly has the straightest legs in the team and seems very strong for someone so slim.

Rocca came out after warm-ups and did some stretching, then practised kicking and catching with a trainer type. He kicked with both feet, but seemed a bit, er, careful. Then he went off to practise his goal kicking, which was either a little rusty or also affected by wind, or by the backdraft from the trucks on the flyover above the paddock. After 30 minutes he started stretching again, then signed some autographs and took off on his bicycle - presumably what the physio ordered. BTW, he was looking very slim for a man who's spent some time on the couch recently.

Medhurst was going like a rocket the whole time. He has a great leap on him. When they broke into forwards, mids and backs, he went with the mids.

McCaffer,Thoolen and Stanley trained with the team, and when they broke into their groups, McCaffer trained with the forwards. He wasn't the worst. JA started with the forwards, but had a brief play with Harry and Wakes.

H. Shaw and Didak were there throughout. Shaw had awee bit of a limp, but only briefly, but Didak trained like a genuine finals prospect - all an illusion, I know. Didak surely has the least straight legs of the team, which may be why he's good at bananas.

All in all, they didn't kill themselves. Eddie was there too, practising his ball skills. But I trust it won't come to that.

Leon Davis seemed to be the hottest autograph get today, and Dale was obliged to hold someone's baby for a photo. To his credit, he did not drop it; but it may have had a dirty nappy, for he did hold it well away from his body.

Sorry, no photos. I didn't bring my camera as I thought it was a closed session. There was one supporter there, snapping away with a very long lens. Hopefully he posts here.

Cheers for the report Snag. Did Dawes and Reid train?????

I would not be suprised if Reid came in for Dawes this week, I don't think they would have given him a run in the last VFL game if he wasn't in contention. Given Adeliades likely flood I think Reid doing all the lead up work and Cloke staying back would be very handy. None of the young guyys (McCaffer, Dawes, Ja or Ried) would have the presence to really demand the ball when we go inside 50 if Clokey is leading up to the wing.

Then I hope Reid has Fixed his Kicking Then

His field kicking is just fine so if he plays the lead up role he will be fine and be a huge improvement on Dawes. I am talking more Wing/CHF then CHF full foward.

His kicking in general play is technically not brilliant but it is effective. If he is getting it on the wing and Cloke is I 50 it is a much better result then Cloke getting it on the wing and having Dawes and Ja to kick it too with a massive adeliade flood.

Thanks for the report Snag.

I'm also starting to lean toward the idea of playing Reid as a lead up forward this week. I fear Dawes will get destroyed by Adelaide's close checking defenders.

His kicking in general play is technically not brilliant (I seriously doubt you would no the difference anyway dave) but it is effective. Hear hear. Middle of last season I had him down as natural born wingman. He's too slight for a true forward role and easily bumped off it but his speed and hight on a wing would be a delight. And in future, all else falling into place, Coxy on the other wing and Stanley dishing it out to them.

Well Geez Nice to Think that I am an Idiot,

That does make Sense those But I would Rather Put JA in the Backline and Leave Dawes in and Bring in Reid

It would also make sense that they allowed him to run around in defense in the VFL last week gathering kicks without an opponent.

Maybe they were just trying to get him some touch back before bringing him in this week - better to do that then let him freeze in the VFL forward line.

Dawes certainly did, and he actually kicked a few practice goals. He was in great spirits too. I think he'd have cheek enough to demand anything, including the ball; even if J. Brown had transferred to Collingwood and was plopped in the goal square.

I didn't notice Reid. He a non-descript sort of boy. But there was a tall, blonde lad whom I couldn't identify from the distance, so that was probably him. Brad Dick also turned up briefly. He just did a few stretches and left.

Paul Licuria got a bit of attention from the small crowd, but that may have had more to do with his dancing.:D

Anyone else notice that Ried has put on ALOT of muscle

He was looking like a tank which is good news, could be a surprise inclusion this week

Any Pictures Snag?

Yeah, funny you should say that cause there's a team photo in a shop up the street, and his arms look huge.

I thought it must be an optical illusion.

Reid for Dawes this week.

Still not Sold, Dawes had his best game of AFL at AMII 2 weeks ago against Port and Reid has only played Half a Game in 2 Months. Just No Sold that Reid would be Match Fit and Can run out a Whole Game with High Stakes

Dawes hasn't been able to run a game out either so there is no loss their. He spent most of the Freo game on the bench. He is clearly not ready. His best game against Port was average at best.

Thanks for the great update :thumbsu::)

Fantastic to hear about Daisy being up and running. :thumbsu:

You sure that isn't his natural gate? He does have a walk like 1 leg is an inch longer than the other.

Agreed Dawes isn't indeally match fit but on saying that IMO from what I've seen I'd have him in over Reid for sure.

I dunno if I have watched different games to everyone else but in all games bar the north game I think Reid has been as good as anything Dawes has dished up. The only blight has been his kicking at goal which is an area Dawes has struggled too.

The game against Carlton Reid was far superior to anything we have seen from Dawes.
