Just wondering who went...and what you thought of the evening?

Personally, I thought it was great. Obviously far too hot, but then thats life. I think the club did a great job re-organising everything after the time changes.

Nice to see most of the lads have a kick around...just to see a semi-game of footy after 5 months is good.

Pretty good turn out...cool fireworks to end.

THoughts of others??

I went there solely for the footy and that was good to see. Wasn't too hot really in the shade in front of the stands, got a bit uncomfortable out on the ground afterwards when the wind dropped off.

I don't know what they can do about it but the guernsey presentation wasn't great considering that from sitting on the oval as suggested, for most of the players, you could only see their heads and couldn't see whoever was giving it to them or what they were giving.

I left when the fireworks started, saw them walking down the street but all fireworks displays are the same to me. :(

Dunking machine was good although Bucky seemed to go in every time I looked away

Also would've been nice if they'd announced that Ellis was wearing 28 because you could hear a lot of people didn't know who it was.

Missed the ice cream van too :( Those Magnum-type things just aren't the same :p

Like I said, I went for the footy so nothing bothered me too much about the night

Not too bad and the weather-wise the last quarter was OK. I got the signatures of God and Son Of God on my no 1 guernsey so that was good. 5 Magareys on 6 square inches of fabric.

As to how the players went, well remember this is my first view of a lot of them, including Damon White. Also my long visions none too good so I couldn't pick out new players too well when they were far from me(at the bowling club end). And I've had to miss out a couple of players because I just didn't see them enough to pass any kind of judgement on them.

First the yellow team players

Matthew Primus - the mattress is back! Dominated the rucks in the time he was put in them and made some very nice pick-ups of loose balls

Brett Montgomery - Cleared up most attacks that came his way

Peter Burgoyne - started like a house on fire. Was still fast and skilful but lapsed into the Burgoyne lairising a couple of times

Josh Carr - Set up many attacks. I wish they would be a bit more down the middle, though. And he still kicks across his body a lot

Rob Forster-Knight - Saw him a couple of times link up to get the ball moving forward. Didn't notice any howling errors

Dean Brogan - Mainly forward where he looked out of place. Only won the rucks when he was up against Ackland

Stuart Cochrane - Got the ball a few times and kicked a goal

Jared Poulton - Someone on www.thepowerfromport.com was asking who will be our new receiver. Jared was certainly the man who was running loosewhen the ball was taken on half back. And his disposal has improved out of sight

Troy Chaplin - Given the task of quelling Tredrea he did very well, Tredrea only getting kicks with extremely strong marks, nothing easy. And most of those were pretty wide-ranging

Stephen Gilham - Only saw him once or twice. Linked up well in the backline and didn't miss his mark with passes

Joel Patfull - scored the first goal and was in the goalsquare most times but didn't seem to want to lead
Dale Ellis - kicked 3 or 4 goals. A very good effort although kicking a point from an impossible angle when Joel Patfull was alone in the square was less than perfect. Changed jumpers from 42 to 28.

Adam Grocke - Not too sure who he was on. If it was Damon White he did very well. If it was the resting ruckmen(Ackland/Lade) he did not do well at all.

Now the clash guernsey(teal) players

Gavin Wanganeen - more of the same from last year. His first kick went astray but in general he marshalled the defence and picked up quite a bit of possession

Brendon Lade - did well in the ruck and forward. Rarely beat Primus but seemed to have the drop on Brogan. Took a stong mark at full forward and kicked a couple of goals

Shaun Burgoyne - I thought this was a perfect opportunity to try Shaun in a midfield role but I only noticed him in the forward and back pockets. Couldn't say he really did very well in either of those positions

Cain Ackland - Another multiple goalscorer, although none of them were difficult. In the main part of his game, the ruck, he was again disappointing

Byron Pickett - was played on half-forward and half-back was his dashing self wherever he played

Warren Tredrea - one of the few players to take really strong contested marks

Damon White - This was my first view of the player I have heard others raving about and he showed nothing. Hopefully it was only because of the shortened format but I would have thought that would have favored a player trying to force his way into the side

Domenic Cassisi - showing a bit more skill than previous years where his stock-in-trade seemed to be his attack n the ball on the ground

Steven Salopek - Saw him once or twice, was hoping for a bit more

Salim Hassan - Interchange for both teams. Difficult to miss with his tinted hair, looked enthusiastic.

I found a lot of the teal players very difficult to pick out. In the light the number doesn't show up very well at all and unless I recognised the player I didn't know who it was. So some of this may be based on the fact I couldn't make out who had the ball. Although for the players in the yellow that was nowhere near as much a problem.
The fact that the whole game was made up of 2 10 minute and 2 15 minute quarters would also have an effect on how the players went.

Some of the numbers on the clash guernsey were incredibly difficult to pick out. 5,6,8 were very hard to tell apart, as were 1 and 7. Could've been the light but I fear it was the guernsey.
