I know it's hard but you have to admitt that the umpires were actually good. None of this "It was a debacle" bull********, they were actually good.

Like someone else said, would you rather we start picking up thugs instead of footballers and the umpires put the whistle away except for a few fairy touches in the ruck?

A couple of early holding the ball decisions would have got the game free flowing, oh wait then Sydney would have been ********ed,

Remind me again how much Sydney won by last week, remind me again how much they beat Lions by, remind me again how they kicked 6 goals in the last 1/4 at the Gabba to overcome a 32 point 3/4 time lead, but yeah you're right the Swans can't play free flowing footy. :thumbsu:

So what your saying is you want every single free kick paid, even if it's just a player with their finger on another player?

The umpires today put their whistles away but pulled them out when a free kick was there. Yes, they did let a few go, but it is so much better to see a game just go on without the umpires being whistle happy.

No, what I dont want is the umpires paying soft, stupid free kicks in the ruck, then when it gets to a marking contest, anything goes

They paid a couple of absolute shockingly soft free kicks today, and ignored some blatant ones, most obvious to all was the no holding the balls

They enforced some laws strictly, others lightly, some not at all. Thats not good umpiring

1 qtr, not 4

They would not have won a 4 qtr free flowing shootout

Went to the game, was worried beforehand that they might have an effect. Despite a lot of free kicks in the first quarter, they were not noticable. Credit where its due. Well done umpies.

how do u know the eagles wouldnt have won anyway, or they wouldnt have won every game anyway? thats very harsh...oh wait ur a dockers supporter or course

The umpires did a good job. No stupid decisions at the end to make and break the match. Although do people think the Staker vs Goodes clash was 50m? I do, but if Goodes had goaled, it could easily have changed the game.

I may have the wrong episode in mind but wasn't the 50 due to mouthing off once the free was paid?

I'd rather they didn't blow the whistle then stopping everything

Although no holding the balls seemed a bit odd, as there were a few occasions when players were clearly caught and should have been punished!

u need 2 get off the ********. it cost wc the game

West Coast had free kick counts of 21-14, 15-8 and 13-12 all in their favour in the finals series. So they can't complain about umps.

That 50 was for Cox mouthing off at umpire Allen.
The Goodes 50 was for Staker crashing late into Goodes after he had taken the mark.

Oh, and I find this thread highly amusing given what happened in the 1st final.

They did well.

There was a couple of mistakes early on however not paying a free kick in the last 15 mins was great. They let it go, there were a lot of 50/50 decisions they could of paid.

The Afl wanted a sydney win at all cost I wonder whether a chat with Mad Vlad and the three Umpires before the game had anything to with.....hey lets
not take away to a boring game and a Sydney win......

If the umps umpired like this in a regular match, you would all say they were crap.

Brett Allen did a great job.

McLaren and Goldspink paid a lot of dubious decisions, especially in ruck and marking contests. (although the majority were in the first quarter)

McLaren's 'holding-the-man' decision (causing 50m for abuse) near the boundary line against West Coast was clearly wrong. I thought the player didn't handball the ball properly. Even if he did, you can still argue the player was in control of the football (as the laws state). That's why they changed the laws, (after Kevin Bartlett) so to prevent those type of holding free kicks from being paid. If you handball the ball so it stays within your control, the player is still in possession of the ball.

But, they kept out of the game when it needed it, so I guess that's a positive.

It was a debacle, it was almost a raffle every contest if they would take not of one infringement or another or none at all. No consistency at all throughout the day

Soft ruck free kicks were paid throughout the day, but a bloke had to be murdered in a marking contest

Anyone who felt the umpiring was great has no idea, just because they ignored everything you think it was good? A couple of early holding the ball decisions would have got the game free flowing, oh wait then Sydney would have been ********ed, but no they decided to let Sydney slow up the game.

To have a game with so many stoppages and no holding the ball is a disgrace and shows the umpires simply didnt want to pay anything because they didnt want to be blamed

Guess judging by this thread, it worked. No tough decisions and everyone loves them, forget the ones they missed

Great, another umpire who agrees, although I thought they only missed a couple of obvious HTB free kicks that should have been paid.

Personally, I thought the 50 was a bit tough because Staker was running at full tilt and appeared to drop his hands down to try to minimise the impact on Goodes.

But in a way, that passage of play should never have come about.

In the previous passage of play, Staker himself took a mark inside attacking 50 and had a gettable shot on goal........but elected to play on and fluffed it.

Why didn't he take that shot on goal?
