Fetterman could be in trouble. New York Times report sounds bad.

Former Fetterman Aide Expressed Concern to Doctor About Senator’s Mental Health

The former chief of staff to Senator John Fetterman, Democrat of Pennsylvania, was so alarmed with his ex-boss’s erratic behavior last year that he wrote a lengthy letter to his doctor warning that the senator was spiraling out of control and that his mental health issues could cost him his life.

If he resigns, Shapiro would name another D to replace him. But it sounds like that stroke messed him up a lot more that supposed. Possibly other pressures aren't helping.
It's too bad, because pre-stroke he was very good.

This seems legit. Lindsey the Boneless has a strong challenger. It's so good it's almost is a SNL cold opening. She's has tried for a political seat before so I'm a little skeptical. Mace seems ok the first time I saw her (on Maher's show), both South Carolinians. :confusedv1:
Anyway, bang! cop that Lindsey.

Great piece on Zohran Mamdani and the future of the Dems by Robert Reich.

(Great quote: Meanwhile, the editorial board of the New York Times counsels “moderation”, urging Democratic candidates to move to the “center”. Tell me: Where’s the center between democracy and fascism, and why would anyone want to go there?)

Has been fascinating watching the establishment (on both sides) collectively panic and try to publicly take him down in recent weeks.

Some real desperation.

They've also tried moving to the centre over and over, and it hasn't worked, outside of when Trump screwed up the Covid response. It's worked even less well in Britain. The game has changed now, the Bill Clinton third way manoeuvre doesn't work any more.

I know Obama governed like a moderate conservative, but during his campaign he sold himself as the candidate of change. And a lot of the opposition to him was similar to the opposition to Mamdani now (he's a dangerous radical extremist brown Muslim communist who hates Israel and hates America). And Obama succeeded where Hillary Clinton and Harris didn't. Aside from being a man, the key difference is Obama promised change to people who weren't happy with the status quo, and had the charisma to sell it. Mamdani does too.

If Newsom or Pritzker or whoever gets the Dem nomination next has any brains, they'll campaign on real change, not whatever the hell Hillary and Harris were doing.

Agree 100%.

Kamala has said she 'isn't done'. lol.

Can't see her lasting long in the primaries.

Newsom comes across as too slimey/typical establishment robot. Just can't talk like a normal person.

Time for the old guard to piss off and let the economic populists take the reins.

The unfortunate reality is that there are still too many boomers in the rust belt that won't be able to bring themselves to vote for a women.

I think the Dems have to accept this for the time being, someone like Newsom would be a sound choice who could win an election and would still be better than any Republican

I think Kamala could be done or could be the capitalists choice

I did like a comment '' you can see the moment the light goes out in his eyes ''

Newsom, though, has that swarmy coast slickness that they tend not to like.
Pritzker has more appeal I think, a bit like Walz. He's also quite combative like Newsom. Some midwesterns I know like him a lot.
I mostly grew up on the west coast, and even I don't really warm to Newsom.

I think that was a big problem she had before, she was the establishment's choice, regardless of her record. She might get big D backing, but she just doesn't have the charisma. She could be a top cabinet position holder or AGUS.

Agreed, they probably need a guy from the Midwest. Beshear is another option. He isn't perfect, but I like that even in a place like Kentucky he has refused to ditch progressive values, and instead concentrated on actually selling them to people who are not predisposed to them.

I don't know what the future holds for the democrats because no matter what dodgy stuff the Republicans do, the voters seem ok with it.

I can understand voters not going with Hillary, but the fact Trump could do what he did in his first term and suffer no consequence is amazing. I hate to think what was going through Democrat headquarters when the polling showed a massive turn around for Trump v Biden. I don't know how you can counter it.

Once you’ve got the pro wrestling fans onside you can do and say any old shit because a lot of them really don’t think too much about whether what they’re watching might be fake.

That Schumer and Jeffries still haven't endorsed Mamdani yet, despite him winning the primary in a landslide months ago says everything about the priorities of the Democratic leadership.

Shows how captured they are and how wedged the Republicans have made the Democrats

You would think a concerted effort behind Mamdani while also attacking Trump would be a godsend for all Dems

Which is why I don't trust Dems at all. Every chance they've had to go in a progressive direction since Obama got in and even before that they didn't allow it. They'll let themselves continue to be wedged by Trump and the donor class even tho the vast majority of their base support Mamdani's and Bernie lite policies.
