Round 2 of the VFL season sees the pies travel out to the south east to play Casey (Melbourne's VFL aligned side) at Casey Fields, just outside of Cranbourne.

Casey Scorpions vs Collingwood.
Sunday 18th April.
Casey Fields.
2.00PM.

Collingwood;

B: Reed, N.Brown, Rounds
HB: Buckley, Reid, Goldsack
C: Blight, O'Bree, Barham
HF: Hunter, Dawes, Corrie
F: Blair, Rusling, Anthony
Foll: Wood, Cook, McCarthy

Int: (from): Carter, Sundeberg, Young, Liston, McNamara, Rinaldi, Colbert, Frost.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Notables are obviously Cameron Wood back from injury for his first run of the year in the VFL, and Rusling actually named up forward.

Still no Captain Kris Pendlebury, which is a mystery in itself, but a very strong side indeed.

Casey have a few Melbourne players running around, such as Miller, Cheny, Johnson, Bennell, Martin and Jack Watts.

I will wait and see what the conditions are like to figure out whether I go and watch, as if it is wet, Casey Fields is in the middle of nowhere and has very little undercover seating. (For those who went last year you know what I mean:thumbsd:)

Great to see Wood back, hope he smashes it.

And as promising as it is to see Rusling named at FF, iirc he was named there last week as well, so wouldn't get too excited just yet.

I reckon Wood could be back in the AFL in the next few weeks IF he plays well.

Rusling was named in the Forward line last week but still played FB

By all reports it will be nice mid 20s all weekend.

I think the forecast is for a sunny day; you're right though, Casey Fields is a very ordinary venue in inclement weather. No protection from the wind either.

Yeah it's in the Wide Open Place there out in Casey

It really gives me the sh1t's that they keep naming Rusling in the forward line and playing him down back. If he is going to play down back name him there.

It will be interesting if Wood has a couple of good games what will happen.

Strong looking side. I wonder if they can smash Casey by 100 odd points again, that was pretty damn good. I think Dick had 5 or so in that game.

Rusling wont play forward because in the report last week Gavin Brown basically said they are going to develop him as a backman.

Best wishes to Kyle 'Killer' Matthews, captain of Casey, who is recovering from being king hit a couple of weekends ago.

:thumbsu: spot on....they will probably swap The Rus with Rounds......I wish they would just let him play forward, especially now that the seniors are fully struggling in this area

Gee, they love to tease us.

All we can do is hope that the Rus actually does play at FF.

IMO, that's the setup the senior side should have.

Cloke out at CHF, Rus at FF and the Jack Attack in between.

They'll kill this guys career (which has already been screwed by injury) if this lunacy continues....Rusling is a forward, full stop.

Sorry but Browns comments were pretty definitive. He said Rusling will have to get used to playing down there. He's a defender now, apparently we don't have enough options back there...

Step one... List Rusling at Full Forward.

Step two... Let Rusling actually play Full Forward

Step three... Let the kid do what he know's best

Step four... Thank this guy for creating such a brilliant thread - after last weeks game!

Agreed, We have more than enough Mid size defenders, Yet we have no real lead up targets with size bar Cloke and Anthony who are both struggling to have an impact.
Just really boggles the mind as to why every friggin player has to have their roles changed once they get to the club.
I dont subscribe to the multi tasking of all players having to do multiple roles as the way Mick likes it.
I would rather see a player stick to what he does best and do that well as opposed to laerning different tasks and doing those tasks just adequetly.
All the previous premiership sides especially Geelong and Brisbane had one thing in common, a settled line up which barely changed position wise each week.
These teams were successful because they didnt try to reinvent the wheel, they kept it simple every player knew their own role and this breeds familiarity amongst team mates in the way they play and knowing what to expect.

Dawes can play the Lead-Up Forward with Size

Well there are exceptions to the rule with MM. For example, Tarrant was one of the few players never ever used in defense! (I suggested it a number of times on forums back then)
