Best Players

5. Hentschel - invaluable forward target on a night not made for talls, his best game this year
4. Edwards - consistently brilliant, looked like he won fair number of clearances
3. Thompson - a real driving force in us wresting back the momentum in the 2nd half
2. Goodwin - bit more patchy, but another good night
1. Doughty - bit of opportunist, which you need on a night like this

Team Men

3. Rutten - his opponent (whathisname?) had little influence on the game
2. McGregor - a workhorse up forward
1. Hentschel

2. Porplyzia

5. Edwards - Excellent as usual
4. Doughty - If he can keep this form up then he'll survive on our list a hell of a lot longer than I ever thought he would. Very happy to see him proving a lot of us wrong. I really liked his game tonight.
3. Hentschel - Started the season very quietly, but was great tonight.
2. Thompson - Perhaps a bit unlucky not to be higher - 25 touches and 3 goals is a great effort.
1. Van Berlo - That kick to Hentschel was an absolute ripper. Played very well with limited game time. Used all but one (that I remember) of his 15 touches well.

BTM
3. Rutten - Not only did he hold Tredrea scoreless, but he got about twice as many touches as him too.
2. Basset - great defensive game. Several good spoils.
1. Vince - a bit quiet again, but I thought he deserved a point for a couple of nice goal assists

Rookie
2. Van Berlo - as above - very solid game
1. Maric - 5 tackles and a goal from the big man, with very little game time. Can't think of too many ruckmen that tackle as well as this kid. Decent debut for a big man in conditions that really didn't suit him.

5. Hentschel - showed his knockers tonight his real class, handling the wet ball better than every other forward on the ground. Top game and skills.

4. Edwards - having a bottler of a year and gave enormous drive around the packs with his exquisite skills.

3. Thompson - tough as tungsten and a great return after injury to the mid-field. Filling in for Roo very nicely thankyou. :)

2. Doughty - the Messiah Craig just keeps on waving that magic wand. Firstly Massie and now Doughty. First class effort in hard conditions to win some real tough footy and used those skills of his to bag 3 of the best.

1. Rutten - broke even with Tredrea on the scoreboard tonight so I guess it was an improved effort by Tredrea. :D Seriously, he must be Tredders' worst nightmare - spanked the living suitcase out of him once again.

Best Team Man

3. Rutten - see above

2. Doughty - see above

1. McLeod - mopped up sweetly across HB all evening and created plenty of run from the backlines

Rookie

2. Van Berlo - becoming an important player in the team as a second tagger. Learning his trade in leaps and bounds. Has great poise for one so young.

1. Porplyzia - handy player to have to cover for the big boys on-ball when they have a breather. No fear and good skills.

POTY

5. Henschell-Looked the most dangerous forward all night. His handling of the wet ball in the second half was exceptional
4. Thompson-I've been a bit worried about him this year but great return to form with good decision making, disposal and kicking for goal
3. Edwards-did he participate in Shave for Cure !
2. Rutten-absolute monty for AA selection again if he could stand Tredrea every week
1. Doughty-some people here would be choking on their Weeties with his form

BTM
3. Johncock-part of the best backline in the league
2. Rutten-see above
1. Bassett-see above

ROOKIE
Van Berlo-getting very consistent every week, delivery excellent

5) Edwards: Super effort, deserved the medal for sure.
4) The Trentschell: Easily his best game for the year, could have slotted another goal to get the 5 but was very impressed at his cleanliness. Has been doing well against Port the last year or so.
3) Scotty T, nice job. Seemed to be back playing his midfield/HFF role like last year. I like seeing him play there.
2) Goodwin: Was held well but still had a bit of an impact on the game, was tossing up between him and Rutten for the 2.
1) Doughty: Didn't think his around the ground work was too good in very difficult conditions, got a lot of the pill though. Can't ever argue with 3 goals, all pretty good ones IIRC.

BTM:
3) Rutten: What else needs to be said?
2) Bassett
1) Edwards

Rookie:
2) VB, the best of the youngsters last night.
1) Porps, just over Maric for his tackling.
Was also very impressed with an effort from Vince, sliding along the ground on knees quick pickup and instant handball to a running player. Looked very smooth and clean.

Best on Ground

5. Trent Hentschel -
In conditions like last night a dominant key forward is worth his weight in gold. Without a doubt the best game Trent has played for the club. His skill level was a pleasure to watch in shocking conditions. He was brilliant and had he kicked straight he could have easily had 5 goals next to his name. Keep it up.

4. Michael Doughty - How do you like that humble pie?????? His skills in the wet were great to watch. Along with Hentschel he was our cleanest player with with his possesions. Absolute pleasure to watch last night

3. Scott Thompson - I thought he gave us a great 4 quarter effort. He was VERY VERY good in the guts and he was damaging when he "rested" in the forward line. Ended up with a lot of quality touches and 3 goals. Can't ask for more.

2. Tyson Edwards - His second half was nothing short of sensational. He was MIA in the first half but he made up for it with probably the most dominant game in the 2nd half. He was a major contributor for breaking the game open in the second half.

1. Ben Rutten - Tredrea is his bitch :D. Not only did he keep Tredders goal-less and out of the game but he provided some great rebound out of the backline by pealing of Tredders. Best game for the year :thumbsu:

Best Team Men

3. Tyson Edwards -
See above

2. Ken McGregor - He didn't get a lot of touches but his tap ons in the forward line set up at least 3 goals. His tap on to running Johncock for a goal was brilliant piece of play. Conditions didn't suit the talls but Kenny played that game the way you want your tall to play in those situation.

1. Ben Rutten - See above.

Rookie

2. Nathan Van Berlo -
He just loved the conditions. He kept putting his body on the line when needed. Possibly his best game for the club.

1. Ivan Maric - Showed some really good signs with a few frustrating bits but he will learn. 7 touches, 5 tackles and a great goal from a first game ruckman in only a quarter of footy is always a great return :thumbsu:

POTY

5 - Ty Edwards - *enter superlatives here*
4 - Scott Thompson - nice return - played with a lot more discipline last night which was the most pleasing sign for me
3 - Trent Hentschell - 20 odd possies and 3 goals - the best fwd on the ground by a mile
2 - Michael Doughty - Another very good game - my advice is certainly starting to pay dividends...;) :o
1 - Graham Johncock - busy little fella isn't he.

Apols to Truck and Mattner

BTM

3 - Ty Edwards - steps up in important games
2 - Ben Rutten - blanketed The Gimp with ease
1 - Nathan Van Berlo - could get a lot more of the ball but instead is following instructions to the letter...;)

2 - Nathan "The Count" Van Berlo
1 - Jason Porplyzia

Excellent point young Stiffmeister. :thumbsu:

Maric's ground time equated to only about 1 quarter of footy, and that is a damn good effort from a young ruckman in his first game for such a limited period. :thumbsu:

Just had a call from Matthew Smith, MD!!

He wanted to know why that @#%^$ MD didn't share this advice with him. ;) :p

5. Hentschel - Showed his class in the wet & stepped up as the key forward we need from him. Hopefully he can produce now on a consistent basis.
4. Doughty - Followed up last weeks good effort with another 4 qtr effort (though helps when you are on the ground for most of the game) & some classy finsishes for goal.
3. Edwards - Was everywhere & important he stood up with Goody tagged out of the game.
2. Thompson - Like Edward gave us the grunt around the packs & was also damaging up forward.
1. McLeod - Like Goody last week, the captaincy did him know harm, giving us a stack of run.

BTM
3. Rutten - Made Tredders a non-event, yet again.
2. Hart - Blocked everything in the 1st quarter & looks to be back to his best.
1. Massie - Destroyed White & typically played on bigger oppisition to allow both Kenny & trent to play up forward.

Rookie
2. Van Berlo - Another solid game after starting on the bench. Is going to be hard to displace from the 22 when other players return.
1. Porplyzia - Again another youngster who doesn't look out of place at AFL level.

A lot to like about the even contribution of this side.

Well I thought he shouldve been dropped before Skipworth in this game but am now pleased he wasnt.
The pass to Hentschel in the second quarter with the wet ball had to be pin point and he pulled it off with aplomb.

Yep, he did some great stuff last night.

TJ, not sure how you came to the conclusion VB should have been dropped before Skippy as he has been solid for us all year & did an awesome job taking Johnson out of the game last week. This guy is the real deal & will be a 200+ game player for the Crows. Needs to work on his disposal, but is hard both physically & mentally.

POTY

5: HENTSCHEL, Trent - Absolutely terrific in the conditions. It was hard enough sitting there in two jackets trying to text my sister in the new stand. So to boot 3 goals and win as much contested ball as he did he just terrific.

4: EDWARDS, Tyson - The real heartbeat in midfield. Just a great allround game from him. Brilliant.

3: THOMPSON, Scott - Just play the theme to Welcome Back Kotter.

2: DOUGHTY, Michael - Super game, if not for the consumate ease with which he seemed to work. While this is the Doughty I think we all expected to see in 2003, it's certainly a case of better late than never.

1: JOHNCOCK, Graham - Very very tough call on a further 10 or so players who all executed their roles to perfection, but I reckon Stiffy deserves it for his work at both ends. There's a lot to like about where Craig's brand of Total Football is taking us.

BTM

3: EDWARDS, Tyson - See above.

2: RUTTEN, Ben - Not only did he once again hold Tredrea, he also provided plenty of drive on the rebound. Is looking back to his best after a slow start.

1: GOODWIN, Simon - Won plenty of contested ball where it had to be won. Another 19 men stiff to miss out though.

Rookie

2: VAN BUCKLEY, Nathan - Look, I don't want to get carried away here, but some of his disposal last night was absolutely first class (especially given the weather) and combined with his workrate and courage, some comparisons to a young Bucks are warranted.

1: MARIC, Ivan - I remember hearing Jack Cahill pump the kid up last year and that certainly made me prick my ears up. As others have already said, given his limited gametime his performance was excellent. Long may he develop in the coming months and years.

if he stood Tredders every week, Truck would have to be the AA wingman

5 – Hentschel – What a performance, especially considering the conditions. Won the hard ball and showed some lovely skill.

4 – Doughty – best game by a country mile for the lad. Hard at it, worked his butt off and finished off nicely.

3 – S Thompson – all the positives and with very little negative. He is a force to be reckoned with.

2 – T Edwards – the Phoon played brilliantly in the typhoon conditions of the second half. No better balanced or reliable player in the AFL in my view

1 –Rutten – tore Tredders a new one yet again. Futurre captain.

Team Men
3 Mcleod – awesome sweeping play

2 Johncock – same as ever

1 Van Berlo – the new Kane Johnson – only quicker!

Rookie
1 Van Berlo

1 Porplyzia – scarily good for a depth player. The AFL clubs must be worried about the AFC more than ever

1 Maric – change the game in the second quarter with the goal and breaking even with Lade in the ruck. Some of his tackling was phenomenal.
