The 2024 list is just beginning to shape up slightly thank goodness. It was a real concern for 12 months and still is to an extent but at least now there is some hope with players like Kayle Gerreyn (WP), Hamish Davis (CL), Hayden Windsor (S), Kyelan Sanders (PT), Will.Hayes (CL), Jaxon Artemis (SF) and Caylon Seelander (S) emerging as quite exciting prospects and a bit of improvement from Malakai Champion (S), Baylee Payne (WP) and Trent Hiscock (WP), who is now being used as a 190cm+ mid. A few others like Kyle Brestovac (SF) and Andre Gulluni (EP) certainly have A-Grade skills, so something to work with there also.

Agree. Still a long way to go but some genuine prospects seem to be popping up that we are yet to see at a state level.

Where do you get your updates from? Interesting to see that Luke Cotellessa has hit your radar.

I've been watching Trinity College a bit and Luke has been very good. Makes a huge difference when he's on ball.

Thanks mate. I've got a PSA streaming sub for five bucks...haha....but I don't have all the team lists for PSA. Which number for Trinity is the state 16's player Jimmy Aylmore?

How does it compare with the 2023 U18s team? just trying to work out what is going on with the state teams is it just a couple of down years or something else to it?

Well, hopefully this year's players show a bit more for he remainder of the championships. I still think that there are some really good players in the 2023 squad. Although after their first performance, I'm wondering if I payed too much attention to how they get the ball instead of what they do when they get it.

It must be bordering on a record to get as many inside 50's as the opposition and lose by 88 points. That's almost a mathematical improbability. Even in the first quarter they turned it over at least 15 times and they weren't difficult kicks. Some of the kicks went to opposition players who probably weren't even expecting to be in the contest.

I might be wrong and I probably am but to me 2022 was average, 2023 a bit above average and 2024 looks a little below average so far.

Colts footy is a bit like WACA Premier cricket. It's clearly not as good as Melbourne Premier cricket but the diamonds among the rough exist and good players can be found.

If I could magically change one thing, I'd put a huge emphasis on bringing back footy to the vast number of Perth suburbs where it has died. Notably the poorer areas. A kid nowadays might have to travel 5 or 6km to find a junior team at year 9 and above and the WAFL has long since compacted the junior comp into three conferences so as to make enough teams. I don't have the current participation numbers on hand but from what I can see kids here are gravitating towards soccer and basketball. Maybe that's the case throughout Australia?

Good example is to always focus picking kids with elite kicks/decision making that don’t give the ball back. Give the ball back generally will be an opportunity for opposition to score. Sure if they can get 30 poss and do that so be it but unusual at this age. The observation is certain people in different areas of state leagues seem obsessed by how many possessions they get rather then what happens once they kick it/decide. I will take 18/22 quality possessions (lead to scores/goals, no turnovers) over the 30 + every time. Good under pressure decision making is what will be noticed at league level or higher levels. The Allies midfield has some elite talent and this could be an off game for WA and they will improve in coming games 👍🏼.

Still worryingly thin on talent, even with Gerreyn, Harvey, Champion, Allan, Moore, Van Der Struyf, Windsor and a handful of others going well. They are clearly the top prospects for now

A number of higher profile players have dropped off significantly or still turn the ball over.

Jeez, I wish Chayse Martinson (SD) could somehow find a way to get disposal value for the immense amount of effort he puts in. Nobody tries harder in the entire comp but I think those possessions should hit targets or at least - when in doubt - go long to advantage.

2006 DOB players in 2023 WAFL Colts/PSA Round 18 Update

You can already see that the 2007 double below age players are impacting colts as much as the 2006 below age. It may turn out that as many as 10 2007 DOB below ager players and 5 2005 over agers bolster next year's WA 18's squad.

Is there any player I've missed in this 2024 group? I'm getting really worried.

I’ve mentioned it before been keeping my eye on PSA and Kayle Gerreyn this season clear stand out from that year group his team mate Drewett has been as good as any 2006 PSA midfielder you’ve listed played a few colts games. Harvey/Urquart best of the 06 mids that I watched Davis best forward. Blake Kelly exciting prospect for the year after will play 18’s as a bottom ager.

Ok, I'll put Drewett in the top 50 based on your recommendation and take it from there as the next 12 months unfold. All the others bob up on a list somewhere. I quite like Drewett when I've seen him in PSA and for Subi but he's another small player of which there are many in the list.

Terrible luck for Hayden Windsor who went down with what looked like a serious knee injury.

Hopefully it isn't an ACL but it didn't look good. It's awful luck for him, Subiaco and WA 18's for 2024 as it's more than likely he will miss the entire 2024 season, in what is of course, his draft year.

He was/is listed as the 7th best WA 2024 prospect and at somewhere between 190/193cm or thereabouts was a key for WA 18's next year.

Futbolista.

Where can I find highlights and/or games involving the Raven?
He hasn't had any highlights mate. It's up to him whether he comes to Perth from Albany next year. It's a big state and these small towns are far far away, I remember the stat.....Perth to Sydney is further than London to Moscow.......sheesh! Albany to Perth may as well be London to Paris!!

Ah yeah you did mention he's not a Perth boy.

WA breadth and thoroughfares are frighteningly laid bare on a map hey.

I’ve watched most PSA game

I’ve mentioned it before been keeping my eye on PSA and Kayle Gerreyn this season clear stand out from that year group his team mate Drewett has been as good as any 2006 PSA midfielder you’ve listed played a few colts games. Harvey/Urquart best of the 06 mids that I watched Davis best forward. Blake Kelly exciting prospect for the year after will play 18’s as a bottom ager.
