I guess you just choose to ignore Joel Corey every week then

joel corey lead the league in clearances in 2007

last year he had 100+ clearances and inside 50s despite playing much of the year with a foot injury, AND spending considerable time on a half back flank

dane swan wishes he was half the player corey is

A bit of food for thought..

In the entire comp before this week Watson was:
3rd for contested possessions.
1st for centre bounce clearances.
5th for clearances
3rd for effective clearances
1st for playmaker
6th for scoring involvements
2nd for ball gets
3rd for first possessions

His disposal efficiency for the year is 74%
He averages over 5 tackles a game

They're not exactly the most similar players in the league. Watson is an in and under player, Swan is a gut running, high possession midfielder. They play different roles for their teams, one is a captain and the other is not.

I'd rather compare Ball and Watson - in which case I'd choose Watson now, Ball earlier in their careers.

As for the above Stats, useless as they are (as I said) different players, Watson is Essendons only prominant contested ball winner in the midfield, we have Pendles and Ball and O'bree.

anyways
Swan > Watson. ;)

Watson is better. Neither are that damaging usually anyway. I seen above Joel Corey come into the conversation, he is 3 times the player of both of them.

Swan isn't as tough as Watson, but Watson is just an upgrade on Shane Tuck (who, for the record, has been pretty damn good this season!). Swan pretty comfortably for mine.

Swan comfortably. Both players are their teams' best, but Swan's still a better player than Watson.

It's amazing how the "Swan is not damaging" line gets thrown about.

Time and time again, this is proven to be incorrect but many continue to ignore it.

Swan by a mile.

Swan comfortably, he has taken the final step to elite midfielder in the last 12 months. Watson isnt on the same level any more, still time though I dont think Swan has as much improvement in him as Watson.

Swan for mine. Might be biased, but he along with Pendlebury would be the barometers for Collingwood going well.

I would say the key to beating Collingwood is to shut Swan out of the game. I think he brings alot of your other players into the game
