Was unlucky not to get more games at the Dons, and now he's off to a Preliminary Final. All the best.

good on him....im more happy that we got a 1st rnd pick(Dempsey) for him though. Still dont know how we got away with that

Thanks Teddy for Courtenay Dempsey. Teddy at best was a good VFL player, he was given plenty of opportunity at Essendon to establish himself.
He had to compete with Solly, Wellman, Fletch, Lucas and even Bradley for the KPP. Wasn't up to it.

Hasn't set the world on fire this year at Sydney, has been no great loss.

Great work by EFC to get Dempsey..... :thumbsu:

I dont go along with the unlucky B.S , Ted wasnt ready physically before last season to play every week. He only played ten games last year but he cost himself 4 by squibbing it against the Lions when Brown was running at him.
I like Ted , i was annoyed that he left because he showed in the last 8 weeks and the VFL finals that he was going to be ok as a second/third tall. Overall we did well from it as Ted wasnt really worth a first rounder even though he was what the Swans needed.
Good on him for playing most of the year. He hasnt been a star and he still makes some errors but he has done well.At the end of the day if he stayed we still would have had 3 1/2 wins for the year.

I'll explain,

In my mind, a first round pick being traded is worth as much as what the player offers to the team in contrast. Richards has been a very good acquisition for the Swans - and has even provided another Ruck option when the Swans have been struck down with injury.

Obviously i'm not saying Dempsey wont be a good player, but Richards is worth the pick Sydney traded him for.

Yeh, and Hay was worth 2 picks aswell.

Yes, Sydney needed a player like Richards at the time.

But who is to say they wont need a player like Dempsey in 5 years when they lack onballers?

If they win the premiership again with a significant contribution from Richards, then the sacrifice is justified. However, this is almost impossible.

I'm not saying he would have been a great difference for us, or that he's been a world-beater at Sydney... just a simple, honest congrats for him finally finding some sort of niche in the footy world.

has improved out of sight in the past month

still plenty of room for improvement but he's proving to be a very handy player for our team balance at the moment - has just got to back himself a bit more and not have that "rabbit in the headlight" look when he has the pill

You cannot be fair dinkum.
He couldnt get a game at your club.
Played everygame at the swans and will probably play in a grand final.
Cannot see the likes of Solly and co playing in a grand Final let alone a final in the next 5 years! Sheedy crusified him !

I'm amazed that you've watched every Essendon and Bendigo game over the past few years.

For what its worth , Longy ,yes I have actually.
You never know who is on the net!
Richards was repeatedly played out of position and moved around like a chess piece, or have you all forgotten that .

33 games in 5 years at the Bumbers

You mean played forward, back and in the ruck at times?

Has played in one position since joining the swans.
Amazing what a switched on coach can do.
If you had a good look at last nights game. Roos out coached Worsfold.
When was the last time you watched a game with a 2 man forward set up and win !

Ted has played forward, back and in the ruck at Sydney.

He was settled down back last year at Essendon, played the last 10 games.
Prior to that he Wellman, Fletcher and McPhee keeping him out of the backline and Lucas, Lloyd, Hird and the like keeping him out of the forward line.

He got dropped last year for squibbing a contest, something that purely wasn't good enough.

In 2004 he was in our finals side.

In the end he wanted to leave, we wanted to keep him.
Good luck to him, I wish him all the best. We'll take Dempsey. But at the end he's an incredibly average footballer playing in a very, very good side.

Oh and have a look at Essendon v Richmond, Round 21 2006.

The only reason the game was even close was because of the tactics we employed in manning up the players Richmond pushed behind the ball. We were getting carved before we did that.

Yep, what was that, Dempsey's 4th game?
