I had nightmares for weeks afterwards that I was strapped in watching it and I couldn't get out.

Definitely the Grudge, the first one. The 2nd one was still pretty creepy in parts though.

People say it is weak, but the original Amityville Horror from 1979 was extremely scary.

This movie was very eerie, rather than using all out horror; you rarely saw any physical phenomena in the film, but the unseen, evil forces in the house were somehow more scary. Combined with the windows of the attic looking like eyes, this made for frightening viewing.

Probably Alien when I first saw it at 9 or 10, Aliens was also scary as a kid. The Candyman was pretty scary too. Recently, The Descent was pretty scary too. Blair Witch had it's moments also...

Really? I heard this and hired it out one night, found it pretty lame. The original "The Ring" wasnt too bad when it was on SBS. I have yet to come across a movie that has actually had me scared.

This was the first movie that popped into my head too... ending freaked me out at the movies. Great adrenaline rush! Mate I saw it with had her face in her hands looking away from the screen and was visibly shaken as we walked out.
