List Mgmt. Who is playing for their careers in 2017?

Also, I don't see why C.Hanley would be under huge duress, isn't he category B still? So unless we have someone pinned as a replacement then let him develop imo as reportedly was a gun off both feet and huge tank.
This is his third and final year as a Category B rookie, so he his only left with two options at the end of the year; promoted to the senior list or delisted. He'd have to do a lot to avoid the latter.

Bump.

We have 20 players coming out of contract at the end of this year.

Tom Rockliff, Nicholas Robertson, Michael Close, Daniel McStay, Tom Cutler, Claye Beams, Jonathan Freeman, Ryan Harwood, Jarrad Jensen, Josh Schache, Ben Keays, Josh Clayton, Cian Hanley (R), Matthew Hammelmann (R), Reuben William (R), Matt Eagles (R), Blake Grewar (R), Jake Barrett (R), Mitchell Hinge (R), Oscar McInerney (R).

IMO-
Sign them up now- Rockliff, Robertson, McStay, Schache and Keays have all done enough.
Probable re signings- Close, Cutler, William, Grewar, Barrett, Hinge, Hammelmann and McInerney have shown some good signs.
Will have to start showing something consistently- Beams, Freeman, Harwood, Clayton and Hanley are still very much playing for their careers.
Gone bar a miracle- Jansen and Eagles.

Should we be getting these re signings rolling now?

Sign now: Rockliff, Schache, Robbo, Mcstay, Keays (thought Keays had re-signed already), Cutler, Barrett

De-list: Eagles, Jansen, Clayton/Hinge, Hanley

Everyone else is 5050. I like Josh Clayton but wouldn't think he is talented enough for AFL level. Hinge depends on Skinners recovery. Don't think he'll be an afl level defender.

Required: Rockliff, Schache, Robertson, McStay, Keyes, Cutler, Barrett

Keep: CBeams, McInerney, William, Barrett, Hammelman
But these guys need focus areas to develop...
CBeams: defensive Half forward
McInerney: clearly ruck, but speed would help.
William: afl sense.
Barrett: back pocket. Do kick ins.
Hammelman: get bigger and tougher. Pinch hit in the ruck for a bit.

Delist: Jansen, Clayton, Freeman, Harwood

TBA: CHanley, Eagles, Grewar, Hinge

I really hope CHanley and Eagles make it, but that's pure sentimentality.

The entire list.

I wouldn't be surprised if we delist one or two guys who are contracted. We just have to pay them out (or hope someone else signs them as a delisted free agent). It could be possible with ongoing afl support to fund the payouts (as a sort of back room recognition of our situation)

If fagan doesn't see a future for one (or two) of bell, Bewick, walker, bastinac and even frost after having a full season to work with them and they are going to sit in the reserves next year why not delist now and free up a list spot to look at other players.

Last year I think we would have loved to have 1/2 more list spots free to try and sign say Lyons given he was prepared to shift to Queensland or to have targeted a first round pick last year instead of the future port pick we now have for Hanley.

You lost me at "Gardiner-delist"

I thought a lot of these guys have contracts to 2018 and 2019 so players like Bell, Bastanic and Frost here to stay at least next year for Bell and 2019 for Frost/Bastinac.
Unless someone wants them

Yep, that's where I got the list from in post #55, 20 players coming OOC in the 1 year seems a lot to me, not sure if that is the normal practice or not.

Messrs Bell, Walker and Bewick who have just been selected for the Hawks game have a bit more time but it could be a slow painful exit in the NEAFL if they don't start showing something soon.

There were 20 OOC players on the wall, if one should happen to re sign there are 19 OOC players on the wall.

One down tonight, Tom Cutler re signs* 19 more decisions to make for the club.

*Jarrod Berry Was OOC 2018, now 2020.:D

When it comes to playing for your careers this was a very informative quote form Chris Fagan in the post game presser last night. mmm!

"Sometimes some of the blokes in the middle part of our list don't put in enough effort for the number of games they've played, that's disappointing but you know what I couldn't fault blokes like Beamsy, Daniel Rich and Zorks, tonight they really had a crack as they have all year".

Who could he be talking about?;) Come on down Tom Bell (71 games), Ryan Harwood (79), Ryan Lester (89), Claye Beams (51), Claye got injured early last night but Fagan was talking about the year as a whole IMO so I would add to the list Ryan Bastinac (146) and Rohan Bewick (97).

Changes are coming boys.

I came around to the Lester does what Lester does and he holds his spot in the side.
Love him to do more although he has been steady each week.

Harwood, Basti, Bell, Bewick and C Beams all look in trouble.

Although like Mayes and Rich I think Harwood is better across half forward. Same as Walker and McStay they are all forwards we sent back

Probably a bit harsh on lester. He's been ok this year.
Is ok good enough though? There's just something about the way he plays, he's just a little to slow when under pressure with the ball and sometimes doesn't make a contest with out the ball. He's a serviceable player but is he a player that is going to take the team forward I would say no.

Lester has certainly been the best we have seen him this year. And we need blokes like him in the team. Hard working role players. But he has hit his peak and is unlikely to get much better. He has surprised me a little this year. Although last year i was very surprised that he was given a 2 yr contract.

Why have the winds turned on Freeman so quickly? I really saw a future for him. Is it simply poor performances in the NEAFL?
With Freeman it simply comes down available list spots for free agents and/or draft picks, and the need to upgrade rookies who show more promise.

Nothing against him, he's just likely to be squeezed out to make room for others.

Unless Noble pays out several contracted players.

Play Freeman this week. Give him a crack. Played Collingwwod couple of years ago at the G and kicked 4 or 5 what I could remember.

gee with additions like Barrett, Lyons and Hinge guys like lester and beams are not looking good

As I've said previously in relation to retaining both Freeman and Hammelmann for 2018, there is an option is to promote Hammelmann to the senior list and demote Freeman to the rookie list.
