This interesting graphic popped up last night on Fox Sports.
Collingwood have had an incredible year, one kick away from a Grand Final, and much has been made of their 2021 form and the contrast it had to 2022.
This list remained untouched, the core from 2018 onwards remained in tact
- Pendlebury
- Sidebottom
- Adams
- J. Daicos
- Crisp
- Moore
- Howe
- Maynard
- De Goey
- Cox
- Cameron
- Grundy (albeit, injured, played half the year)
- Mihochek
- Elliot (career best year)
- Hoskin-Elliot
- Quaynor
Comprise the majority of their senior game day personnel, one that was significantly hampered by injury in 2021 - McRae's genius lies within his own convictions. Invest in Buckley's vision and add to it - McCreery, Ginnivan, N.Daicos, renewned energy, optimism and a fresh start.
McRae brought to Collingwood - what Buckley didn't at the end of Malthouse's tenure, Buckley dismantled a premiership list, and rebuilt it within his own vision and pride, whilst McRae was more alike Chris Scott

Anyway,
2018 - GF loss by 5 points
2019 - PF loss by 2 points
2020 - SF loss by a lot
2021 - out
2022 - PF loss by 1 point
This is a consistent and excellent list of players, significantly underrated and have mostly been able to really challenge. The most exciting thing for Collingwood supporters is that the core seems to be in check for 2023 (keep Grundy and De Goey) and they should once again challenge.
Hopefully our misconception of, '17th in 2021', is eradicated. Evidently, just a dip in form, injury and luck.
Now, our parallel seems to be 2021 and 2022,
Injuries have really hurt us, lack of consistency too, but there's much hope in 2023 by retaining our key core, like it did in 2016. Injuries need to be avoided and managed, along with a renowned energy.
Where do we get that from? Will it be Taranto and Hopper? Rutten's return?
