Winning a premiership as a non-Vic side?

A Vic club playing in a gf at the MCG has to be worth at least a couple of goals minimum, and possibly even more to Collingwood, Melbourne or Richmond, so I'm on the same page as those who believe it should be played at the ground of the higher finishing club regardless of which state they come from, but obviously that is a long time from happening due to that ridiculous 50 yr contract.

Some excellent points made by Duckimus Prime, when you actually see geebung's father sons dissected like that it wasn't only Ablett and Hawkins they got for well under their actual value, it was also the early draft picks they were left with to draft other high quality players that gave that club an enormous kiss on the appendage.

I agree with how the Vic clubs appear to come together when anything is seen as a potential threat to that states political dominance, while the interstate clubs (particularly those from SA and WA) seem just as intent on potting each other as much off the field as they want to win their clashes on it, but given the Power is the only club that evolved from a single entity and its history, I suspect that is unlikely to change for decades to come, if ever!

You're missing the big point here.

Tom Hawkins was drafted with pick 41 in 2006.

Geelong had pick 7 in 2006, they took Joel Selwood. So without the cheap Father-son option they don't have Joel Selwood.

Gary Ablett Jnr was drafted in 2001 with pick 40. Jimmy Bartell, James Kelly and Stevie Johnson were selected by Geelong with picks ahead of him.

And especially with the modern day bidding that results in clubs giving up multiple round of picks to cover. If they have to use their first round pick on Ablett they don't get Brownlow medalist Bartell.

Thats two very signicant players out of Geelong's squads.

The annoying thing about that is, the rules always seem to get watered down and dialled back before we get to properly enjoy them.

Priority picks is another example beyond the father/son rule.

From Fraser/Didak, Hasleby/Pavlich, Roughead/Franklin, Thomas/Pendlebury, Gibbs/Kennedy to… pick 6 (Wingard)/pick 28 (traded for Brad Ebert).

The veterans list was another. Just as we had a clutch of 30 year old/10 year vets about to qualify, it was eliminated with a universal bump in the cap, but not after Hawthorn had cashed in with all their ageing premiership stars.

• shortened quarters
• being able to sleep in our own beds and live and train freely after a certain date
• being able to play at home in front of actual crowds (limited though they were)

how do you f%#k that up? twice?!
Because they are coached by a buffoon and we had/have a number of players who are mentally weak. Absolute disgrace what we have become.
