Worst player to play in a grand final??

Xavier Richards. Played 12 games in total, the last of which was the 2016 GF. Two weeks later requested a trade, no club was interested and was therefore delisted.
I laughed at this...
He was a potato compared to his brother
Picked on name more than ability

Asking for a trade was what ruined his career

To his credit, Mooney is the first to admit he didn't deserve a premiership medal in that game

He takes it in good humour, which - to be fair - is a lot easier when you were the key spearhead in two other premiership sides.

But somewhere else - it may have been Open Mike? - I've heard Mooney say that he was the next man up when McCartney was ruled out, he was picked on merit and therefore he earned his medal in that era. I think that's fair enough and a good way to look at it.

There'd be people like that in every flag side of our own local teams: who did stuff all in the actual game, but, hey, plenty of others would have loved to have been in the side, they were picked over all of them, so they deserved their medal. It's just that Mooney's stats are out there for all to see.

Can't Believe there has been no mention of "Neon" Leon Davis

He's been mentioned multiple times and, going by the inference of the OP, it's looking for literally the worst player, not a good player who let himself down in one or more grand finals. So it's someone we've never heard of, not a multiple AA who played more than 200 games, IMHO.

Can I add Rhys Shaw....or has someone else mentioned him while I wasnt looking?

Fair effort to not even pick up a single touch though, even in the absolute worst games of my life I still managed at least a couple of possessions haha.

Aaron Keating - Adelaide 1997

Grand Final was his 3rd game and he went statless. Only played 3 more games in his career.
For those who dont know anything about him.
He was so bad, Norwood wouldn't even play him in their firsts. He was running around in their reserves.

I hope this doesn't come off as being too defensive of him, as I'm not really that fussed, but didn't he spend like 10 minutes on the ground? It was a different era and I'm guessing there'd be tons of stories like Mooney's, especially from the early days of the interchange, where other players were probably saved because they didn't really keep stats. It was pretty standard for players to wear dressing gowns on the bench in the 1980s.

I was going to say Shane Ellen - until he turned into a suprise hero kicking a bag of 5.
I heard that famous story about him.

Shane Ellen was a defender at the crows. Back pocket I think.

While Shane Ellen was not playing at the crows, he was playing in the SANFL.

I don't know who suggested the idea. It was Malcolm Blight or one of the crows assistant coaches to experiment in him playing up forward during the middle of the year in the SANFL. Turned out to be a good idea in the end

Dylan McLaren 2004 Brisbane side.

Who??

Not sure where they played him in the SANFL that year.

Malcolm Blight told him Tuesday night at training before the GF that he would be selected at FF due to Modra doing his knee in the prelim vs Bulldogs - according to Blight, was a spur of the moment decision at the time.

54 games in 5 seasons for us. Was a serviceable player but always will be remembered for the 5 goals in that GF.

well he didnt play a crows game in 1997 until round 12. So i was assumed he was injured in the 1st half of that 1997 season. But i was told he was the coaches experimented playing him up forward in the sanfl.

he played 17 games in 1996.

In my current cricket club I’ve played 2 FG grand finals and one in 2nds.

I actually played really well in the FG one that we lost (by a single f***ing wicket) and then a year later went wicketless and got a blob with the bat as we fell across the line to win.

Likewise a couple of years ago we n a second grade GF I did next to nothing but we won.

Ideally you’d like to be a contributor but a) id rather do f***-all and win than do well and lose. B) if you’re there it’s because you’ve earned your spot and helped your team get that far in some way.

I’d rather be the worst player to win a GF than the best never to play one, at least in terms of what it means for your career experience
