Tippett wanted to go home but the big cash from the "Concession Swannies" swayed him to come to the 2012 Premiers. Welcome tippo! Ma boy..

Lol, the prolonged discussions have made everyone a little crazy.

I still don't see Tippett agreeing to go to GWS, but if he does then good luck to him. Any interest from GWS won't make Sydney all of a sudden offer Rohan, Hannebery etc. Tippett will either say he only wants to go to the Swans, or GWS will take him.

Not sure they have to make that choice. They won't be giving up either Patton or Cameron to acquire Tippett. They'll either give up one of their draft picks, or will just take him for nothing in the draft (which they might have to if Tippett doesn't agree to be traded to GWS).

Promising as they both look, they are physically 3-4 years away from being able to hold a forward line between them. Tippett would add support, attract the best defender, and also provide relief in the ruck.

Depending on how they've structured their salary cap, Tippett would make a lot of sense for GWS, apart from the fact his selection of Sydney as his preferred club suggests he doesn't want to be playing with a cellar-dwellar for the next couple of seasons.

If GWS can engineer this (and particularly if they can persuade Tippett he wants to play with them), good luck to them. They are certainly in a far better position to satisfy the Crows trade wise, and it will be less tedious for the rest of us the sooner they can become a semi-competitive side. Most Swans fans acknowledge that Tippett will improve our list but I suspect most will be nonplussed if we don't land him.

Thanks for the reply, but maybe I should clarify further: Should GWS risk a few years development of one of Cameron/Patton for Tippett?

I don't see why they'd have to choose. Giles already spends time in the forward line when he isn't in the ruck, and he and Tippett would likely rotate. If anything, I think Tippett would fast track the development of Cameron and Patton, as him being in the forward line takes the attention away from them.

There are four ways it can go from here. In order of best for us

1. Sydney backs out of the chase with a quick sorry and a handshake for Tippett, like the Hawks did when they chased O'Keefe, leaving his previous 'nomination' null and void. Unlike O'Keefe, Tippett burned down all the bridges and pissed on the ashes, so he has to make a new nomination - GWS can offer the same city, and slightly less money but a similar contract length, plus they'll be looking to close the deal quickly before time runs out/someone else jumps in. They have the best picks to trade to us.

2. The above with Sydney happens, but before GWS can seal the deal Gold Coast forgets his earlier slight, and suddenly remember they still have $600k a year spare if he's interested in coming to his actual home. A decent player and pick 25 to trade to us, which is ok, and they'll still need to get the deal done before any drafts.

3. Sydney finally sucks it up, accepts why the rest of the competition thought they were out of their skulls for thinking they could make this happen for nothing, and trades one of their 40 "untouchables" out to bring in a pick inside the top 15, to send over with pick 22.

4. The whole shebang comes crashing down in a mess of flailing list managers and agents, and Tippett ends up at the GWS anyway - with pick 13, or PSD pick 1, it's a cast iron guarantee. However, we get nothing for it.

I can't see GWS actually getting Tippett's signature, but this shifts the PSD situation back in Adelaide's favour. They might be bluffing (personally I can't see why GWS would want to pay a guy that sort of money when they're nowhere near a Premiership, they'd be better off front-ending long-term contracts for their kids and stocking up on moderately paid solid players that set a good example for the next couple of years), but Sydney will be more nervous about letting him slip.

Having young forwards learn the contested mark game, that's why.

I think the ideal situation is Tippet going in the draft with a huge price tag, and GWS taking him. That way we (and everyone else I suppose) can steal their good young players later on, and we don't have to overpay a forward who has shown no ability to be consistent. Also, we weaken a top 4 opposition team by having them lose their highest paid player for literally nothing, at no cost to ourselves at all. And we get to keep our first round draft pick!

Please 'punish' the big bad Sydney team by sending Tippett to the draft and receiving no compensation for him. That'll show us! Oh, and it will show Tippett as well. You know he will be cursing as he is paid a million dollars a year. Come on Adelaide, smite your enemies with your mighty feather pillow!

So you agree Sydney are tyre kicking time wasters ?

No. Adelaide think they are in a position to play hardball, so if they want to try that, I want Sydney to withdraw from the race. We were prepared to give up a first round pick, and White, to make it happen. If Adelaide would rather have nothing in exchange for Tippett, then let them have nothing. We still have a premiership winning team, and I'd rather gamble on Reid improving, than sacrificing a part of that team to gamble on Tippett.

GWS have said they will give up a pick for him.

Tip's manager will want to maintain a decent relationship with our club, he will be talking Tip into accepting a deal that sees him come to us over merely being taken in the PSD or National Draft.

Not to mention the uncertainty between now and the draft period end of November/December. GWS could change their mind and Tip could end up anywhere. There are a few clubs between GWS's picks and Sydney's.

Yes, but if we withdraw GWS have no reason to give anything to Adelaide. They can pick him up in the PSD for free. They're not going to give Adelaide something just to be nice.

Very true, which is where the "poker face" comes into it..

You may need to do a bit of research champ. Gnashing teeth over getting fair comp is true enough, but there was never much love for Kurt either from supporters or within the playing group.

Interesting as I asked on the Adelaide board how did the rest of the playing group get on with Tippett and everyone said that the other players had absolutely no problems with Kurt.

The players were fine with him, the fans flipped and flopped as his accuracy in front of goal switched from 7.1 to 1.7.

The game is out of Adelaide's hands now. It's now entirely down to Sydney and GWS, and the only way Adelaide gets another turn is if Sydney stands and calls. That's when the Crows get to decide whether to cut him loose into the draft to GWS for free or not.

GWS will need to make a deal before the Gold Coast comes back and says to Kurt "Hey Kurt, your real home and $600k a year are still here if you want them", but only if Sydney backs out of the fight first.

But at Sydney (either one) he gets the big city and is still able to walk around without being harassed.. Whats to do in GC except be a bum and surf??
