Actually I think it's disturbing for other reasons, the coach shouldn't be targeting players without involving list managers. Coaches are temporary as we have found out, their opinions shouldn't be used for recruitment especially when it was to recruit an ageing tagger

We made the mistake allowing Ayres to pick Carey ahead of Pavlich. We are still paying for that mistake.

Pretty sure Blighty had a big say on list management when he arrived at the club...

I can't believe we actually wanted to lure Cornes. As in, this was a thing the coach/admin actually wanted. Staggering.

Surely Noble/Sanderson could have had a chat prior to them going to Kane's HOUSE and speaking to him?

Astounding stuff.

Regardless, the club has to back the coach (for better or worse) to make decisions on the makeup of the squad.

A list manager's job is to inform the coach of the logistics of getting the player to the club - not give him advice on whether it's a sound tactical move. If the coach identities the tactical need, the list manager's job is to make it happen.

Walsh now reports to the CEO for good reason - he would have said "get phucked" to the idea of reporting to anybody in the footy ops department. I guarantee it.

I'm surprised Kane wanted to come over. Would have been a massive switch that would have hugely polarised fans.

I also find it really strange. The Cornes boys absolutely hate the club over the treatment of their dad and how it was handled at the time. Would've been a pretty huge turn around to overcome that and move from Port. Interesting story though.

Blighty got rid of known elements that were a disruption at the club and he would have told the club what he had planned before he was appointed. For Sando to go "recruiting" is a joke, no wonder he had no time to be a proper coach.

That was when prunus was basically ready to not play him again. Fortunes changed.

He was on the outer and like a lot of their supporters was prepared to jump ship. Sick of the tarps

Nah, it wouldn't be the first time a coach has personally sought out a player he's interested in.

On reflection, that would've been only months into his head coach role as well. Amazing stuff.

That's th
Kane Cornes, talking on radio this morning, unintentionally gave a disturbing insight into the former runnings of our club.

He said Phil Harper and Brenton Sanderson were at his house at the end of 2011, trying to lure him across to Adelaide. He said he was basically ready to switch clubs, and that Sando wanted him, but when they took it to the list manager (David Noble) he overruled Sanderson.

Whether you think Cornes would have been a good acquisition for us is beside the point - this story uncovers more hidden little gems of the former AFC administration's phaggotry and ineptitude.

The disturbing points:

1. A list manager or someone in football operations overruling a head coach on tactical requirements.

2. Phil Harper in charge of ANYTHING remotely resembling on-field strategy and success.

Could anybody imagine Phil Walsh saying "I want player X" and then the footy operations department saying "nah, sorry Walshy, we don't think we need him..."

The more that is revealed about how our club ran under Trigg, the sicker every Adelaide member feels.
That's the list managers job

The bad part of that isn't the list manager over ruling but that discussions got to that point before the list manager had his say

Agreed. Sando over-reached.

Of course, what Kane was told happened may not be the truth, either.

Dunno slippery. The list manager assembles the cattle and the coach makes the best of what he's given. You don't want a guy on a short term contract making long term list management decisions.

Now I don't think Kornes was right for us, and maybe the better question is why didn't Nobes overrule Sando on BFF pods?

19th June is the AFC Gala Ball AKA the MASS ANNOUNCEMENT BALL. Sloane, Douglas, and Danger

EDIT: sorry I was a little off topic with this post. What I really meant to ask was....who is catering the Gala Ball? Pizza Hutt?

I think it was probably a list profile issue, We needed another key forward, but did we need another vanilla tagger with VB, Wright and Kerridge at the time proving they could do the job?

I understand there's collaboration at a footy ops level - and things like money and contracts are out of the coach's hands - but ultimately if the coach wants to target a player he deserves the right to live and die by the sword.

Perhaps that's old-school thinking, but it's certainly closer to what we've got now with Walsh answering only to the CEO.

If true, the most concerning issue is that Sando & harps were having the discussion with cornes without noble's knowledge. Noble had overall responsibility for list management, so should have been made aware. Not the smartest move by sando not to keep noble in the loop given he was also reporting to him.

I have no issue with Sando being involved if noble had given his blessing. No problem with coach also having an opinion, but final decisions on players are up to the list manager as that is their role!

Btw, glad we missed out on cornes, as not a player of need given his age & our list.

Still not sure about that. Don't reckon it's about reporting lines it's about role & responsibility. If Nobes has responsibility for all approvals over the list, then it doesn't matter who Walsh reports into cause he doesn't cross the streams

That said I see your point to some extent too. You don't want a coach targeting players that means trading your 1st every year, but on the other hand you have to back your coach at least some of the way. Malthouse apparently wanted to ditch 17 players when he arrived at Carlton, cause he didn't rate them. You can't ditch that many players but was he wrong?

If you ignore your coach all the time you've got the wrong coach, but he can't have final say I reckon.

The coach should have input to list management, but he should not be making the ultimate decisions.

A coach should definitely not be talking with players without the knowledge of the list manager - it's a bad look.

Walsh has already said that list management is the responsibility of David Noble and his team. He lets them know the type of players he would like, and they go get them for him.
