As a general comment, it seems like a lot of the current and former Bombers returning from suspension (eg. Hibberd, Ryder, Goddard, Hurley) are having very good seasons.

He's well on track. Don't see 18 games played as enough for a DQ.

Be careful. I suggested this a while ago and the response was vitriolic. Suspect that there are a lot of people who enjoyed saying that he was a waste of a #1 pick when injury impacted his game and can never admit that they were wrong. Having a stellar year but it is a tough ask to get the gig as there are some good ruckmen around. He was just awesome today though.

One pushing his claims for forward line status might just be Ben Brown. Kicking enough goals to be considered along the likes of Cameron, Franklin, Daniher and Kennedy.

The Blues might not have won the match today, but Matthew Kreuzer strengthened his case further for All-Australian selection with a BOG performance (18 disposals, 46 hitouts, 6 inside 50s, 5 score involvements, 5 clearances, 9 tackles, 5 1%ers, 24 pressure acts) against the Kangaroos.

Kruezer is a classical, physical, bullocking ruckman who dominates around the stoppages, evidenced by his numbers in comparison to the #1 ruckman (in terms of games and gametime played) at each other club so far this year:

If there was a reliable, readily-available source available for hitout to advantage numbers (neither FootyWire, AFL.com or the Official AFL App show this, unfortunately), this could be added to create an 'Essential 5 Factors of Ruckwork' metric. As it stands though, Kreuzer is the leading ruckman when it comes to bullocking/stoppage work, playing the ruck role to perfection after the tap, either clearing the way for his mids and ensuring the ball gets forward, or stopping the progress of the other team.

What's interesting from a West Coast perspective is that they're working with arguably the worst #1 ruckman in the league for actual ruckwork at the moment, while arguably the best (has led these metrics in the past when fit and firing) in Nic Naitanui is waiting in the wings to return at some stage later this year.

Smokey for the squad of 40/"Deserves a mention"/one to keep an eye on/unsexy pick - Tyson Goldsack.

Had his first full pre-season in about five years this summer, and has taken a permanent role in the back half for Collingwood, and is producing probably his best and most consistent season at AFL level, at age 30 in his 11th year in the league.

Did his ankle pre-season 14, followed by foot and knee problems a year later which basically ruined the little mobility he had. All on the same (right) leg.

Still #1 in goal assists, if he finishes 4th in the coleman and maintain that assist rate that'll present a clear reason why he should be in the side. In terms of goals and goal assists, the KPF's are as follows:
