Good upgrade for Zak?

Yes.

The problem for me in this hypothetical is Reid. I don't see who takes his spot.

Pink/Aliir unproven, Franklin to CHF and Tippett to FF would work but for how long? Casboult hardly a similar player, he is closer to Tippett than Reid.

Won't be low enough in the draft to try get Brander.

Yeah... So those currently biting...0% chance we get dusty due to whole range of facts.

To those above- I'm confident that we will re-sign Reid....even if he is a RFA at trade time- we will match, unless is plain crazy- which case we get band 1 compo..

Jones I think is a decent chance to go- would want a fair bit for him.

Can you please explain this situation. I am really unsure how it would work.

Reid (Tigers, North, Carlton, Magpies etc) $4m

2018 - $1,000,000
2019 - $750,000
2020 - $750,000
2021 - $750,000
2022 - $750,000

Would we have to match the exact contract terms or total amount?

$800k avg p/y.

As far as I know it must be directly matched. This is my worry with Reid and the fact there is a new agreement in place, next year plenty of teams will need to spend to get to the cap minimum. As you have above is exactly how I can see the offers being set up but even more up front ie. 1.6m/600k/600k/600k/600k. That'll be much harder to match

It seems like he's doing relatively well at NEAFL level but keeping him after this year would be contingent upon the club confidently thinking he can play senior football at some stage in the next year or two. I'd be surprised if that was the case to be honest. And as we've shown many times over, we can make rookie draft choices into senior players consistently, so those rookie spots have value. If the odds of O'Riordan playing seniors are low, I'd happily cut our losses at the end of the season.
I think they'd reckon there is a pretty solid chance. He'd already be playing at some other teams, and is pretty regularly within our bests. He'd be as good a bet as any other rookie, arguably better given his age and demonstrated commitment to professionalism. I don't really understand Rookie things, but could we re-rookie him as a cat b foreign player rookie and still have as many rookie spots anyway?

We know a thing or two about those type of deals.

What could we get for Hewett?

Why? He is starting to look good! FFS, last year was his first year as a regular seniors player and he played well. This year he has shown alot of improvement.

Nothing that would be worth trading him!!

This! x100

Was pick 32 (from memory) and I doubt we'd get better. IMO he looks like an ideal foil for Heeney and Mills in our midfield for the next decade. If you really want to dump him then wait a year until his contract runs out, he'll be worth plenty more by then. If we need to cash in then I'd be looking elsewhere

Dumping him is just the start, I want to forclose his assets and have Rumpelstiltskin take his first born.

What could we get for Hewett?
I think the Adelaide clubs would be really foolish not to be looking at him. Particularly Adelaide whose midfield is just short of them being truly in premiership contention. I don't want to lose Hewett, I think he is a gun, but if he went to adelaide and we could get one of their small defender like Luke Brown Brodie Smith Rory Atkins or Rory Laird, (probably not possible) or a Wayne Milera or Charlie Cameron I wouldn't be too heartbroken. They have an embarressment of riches of running small defenders, and a club that seemingly poops them, while we do the same with slightly slow, but otherwise elite inside mids (which is what I expect of Hewett).

Wayne Milera is the only one that really interests me of those names and there is next to no chance of getting him out of SA. Charlie Cameron is a possibility but I wouldn't mind seeing a little more consistency before offering up Hewett - which I wouldn't in any case

I would hate to lose Hewett, but Laird or Smith would be amazing for our team. Release Mills straight into the midfield, and cover for potentially losing Jones pace too.

And why would we trade him for a defender? ...

I'd trade him for R. Laird. He is a defender. Wouldn't you???? But that is not the point, he does not have the same value as Laird.

The question is, Why would we trade him full stop!!!!!!
