As for mental health, there are certainly inadequate diagnostics for this. How hard is it to tell a few mental health professionals that you hear voices, or that you are suicidal? Do they have a scan or a blood test to confirm these claims?

So how many do you think get away with this? If they are that smart they'd have a job.

Do you realise that with suspicious cases, claimants are often filmed at various times. That finds out a few fakers. Most people wouldn't be able to show/ act the consistent signs & symptoms & limitations of this sort of chronic pain.

With voices, trained psychologists can generally find the fakes out. Again, if they were that good at acting a role, they'd get a job.

Have you looked into how hard it actually is to get on DSP in the first place? The process is long, and depending on the tests and evidence required can cost hundreds of dollars. They review it every so often as well.

To qualify with just a 'bad back' you need a diagnosis from a medical practitioner, and be able to demonstrate that you can't sit for longer than 10 minutes; or pick something up from a table/desk; or move your arms above your head. Getting it for depression is much harder as well.

As I posted earlier, I have a lot of experience with the mentally ill, have spent time as an inpatient in psych hospitals on several occasions (covered by private insurance, before anyone calls me a hypocrotical freeloader). I knew people who said that their psychiatrist refused to sign off on their DSP paperwork, so they got their childhood GP to sign off instead, and succeeded.

To get the DSP for mental illness, your practitioner must state that your condition will not improve for at least 2 years. I would think no psychiatrist would sign such a form, as surely they believe that they can improve their patient's symptoms over the course of 2 years? Yet I have been told that the majority of DSP recipients are on it for mental illness.

Please show me how people lie about a bad back. Dont you think doctors use CT & MRI scans & qualified specialists to do muscle & nerve tests? Or just throw money at people who say they are crook?

Likewise, depression has to be diagnosed & people are given medication. If they need further help, they then see Psychologists & Psychiatrists. You'd have to be pretty good to fool them for very long.

Actually with bad back there's generally no role for CT or MRI. Studies have shown that imaging increases symptoms and disability with slower recovery (may just be correlation).
