I like Gibbs rotating in as the 7th defender - what's the problem there?

I'm not worried too much about where we use Gibbs, as he is a very flexible and experienced player. He will shine wherever we need light.

Robbing Peter to pay Paul.

I'm not a fan of rotating mids through half back. Familiarity breeds defence.

I think defenders should be designated members of the defensive unit so they gel as a unit as much as possible.

I moved from Adelaide to the goldy 15 years ago and started following the NRL and supporting the Brisbane broncos.. and ive noticed one or two things in following both codes... NRL players seem to recover from injury faster than their AFL counterparts.. be it knees, shoulders, ankles or feet..

Today it’s been reveiled broncos player Andrew McCullogh May be fit and ready for NRL round one in a couple of weeks after last year at the end of July suffering a terrible knee injury.. I remember the game and the injury as his team mate 110kg Adam Blair fell across his leg busting both his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL). It loooked terrible and I remember thinking as I watched it, and as an AFL fan, gee that’s one of the worst I’ve seen he’s gone for atleast all of this year and most of next. But articles over the next few days at the time were quoted as saying of his up and coming reconstruction surgery “The rehabilitation time for such an injury will give him some chance of being ready to return around the start of the 2018 NRL season.”

And here it is 7-8 months later and he’s pushing to be fit for round one in a couple of weeks.. and he’s knees fine..

The pressure on NRL players knees, especially players who play in Andrews position, would have to be equal to or worse than that of and AFL player given they run in fast short bursts and do side to side dodging and weaving in play getting tackled below the waste and quite often by a couple of players at a once from different angles.

How do they seem to come back from injury faster?..

Several articles on his recovery mention the use of an anti gravity treadmill and I take it the AFL players use them too..

I’ve probably dribbled a bit here and maybe in the wrong thread but I just find it interesting, especially in light of Brodie Smiths predicament, that NRL players seem to spend less time on the sidelines when injured..

Probably something to do with running patterns, generally in league you run mostly in a straight line, which Smith can do currently, the issue with ACLs is changing direction which you do a lot of in AFL but not as much in NRL.

Is it because the NRL players basically run forward mostly ....whereas there's more twisting & turning with AFL players ?
 
If we’re talkin Mackay,, I think he’s just too light to be an effective AFL player. Maybe he should actually eat some spuds.

I disagree, he's a decently fine build for an outside midfielder.

The issue is all in the head with him, he has a lot of tools that should have translated into a gun outside midfielder (and he's a courageous **** compared to his contemporaries), but either a lack of confidence of football IQ (and he was practically an athlete first when drafted so this isn't much of a surprise) have just seen them all wasted on him.

Unfortunately for Adelaide, he does work very hard and coaches get seduced by someone who will do all the structural things right which has seen us hold on for way too long.
 
I don’t understand his reasoning. Tex is not as good as Sloane because................

Tex is too boisterous off the ball.
Sloane puts his head over the ball and leads by example.

However he also notes that Tex is by far the most popular choice within the club....

He forgot to mention Tex being named best AFL captain 2 years in a row. As judged by his peers.

Im sure the AFC will consider Kane’s Tweet when selecting our next club captain:drunk::straining:;)

Whilst I agree in the most part... McCullogh isn’t a front rower who just gets handed the ball and tries to smash through hit ups... he’s a smaller ball carrier who does a lot of ducking, sidestepping and weaving in between the oncoming opposition..

It would be interesting to see the difference in rehab techniques used by the clubs across both leagues and, given that some AFL clubs have held training sessions/camps with NRL clubs in the past, you’d have to think they’d share injury rehab and recovery techniques...

When I think of him I think should be good user of the ball but he actually turns it over way too often for an outside mid. This is probably his worst fault. Agreed he is courageous enough, but gets flung like an unwanted Macdonalds burger wrapper.
 
So apparently a big gap between the crows and lynch on contract talks. I know he's a valuable connecting player and some are heavily invested in him. But in truth he's behind Sloane and Laird and I don't want to see us fall into the Jenkins (surprise surprise bffs) overpaying trap again.

High HF isn't the hardest role in the world to play and he stood out as a flailing nothing in the GF. If you can't bring your A game to the big dance (yes I know he wasn't alone) then you don't deserve top dollar. 500k would be about max. If some Victorian team offers 700k or more then let him go, try to move up to the sharp end of the super draft.

I'm not worried... yet.

Lynch's preference is to remain a Crow & we want to keep him, so confident they will reach agreement.

The only spanner in the works is if another club give him an offer just way too good to refuse.

That doesnt say anything about low-balling. Just a hurdle. Could be about length. Could be he doesnt want to sign?
Abba might not have used the words "low ball" but "Adelaide's offer isn't close to what the Lynch camp believe he is his worth" sounds pretty much like that in different words.

And counter-productively, plays a lot more safe then what he should be as an outside midfielder.

Turning over the ball isn't an issue until you play it safe.
