Mason Wood looks like being the Ryan Clarke of this year’s trade period.

Lots of hype and hope, then a deflating “jeez, it that all we got” outcome.
Rumours we are into Wood stems from us being into him a couple years ago - except we've stated we had no interest in him. I'd be pretty surprised if we went after him

Absolute joke to ask for a trade with 4 years left.

That’s why I think this is BS, given he signed an extension only last year. It makes no sense that things could change for him that quickly.

Didn't McGoven sign an extention with Adelaide then was at Carlton the next off-season?

The King! trade rumours are the most interesting part of this thread so far. Have you nominated a preferred board to be traded to?

I’m just automatically skeptical about any trade rumours now, maybe I should sit this one out until something actually happens.

Wasn't that a mutual agreement though? I can't see any upside for the club to be willing to give up Paps.

Im not 100% sure on the details but I think he signed pre-camp and left soon as he could post camp

First round picks Convo is interesting. Correct me if I'm wrong, but with Gary gone last year and mcveigh retiring the only genuine first rounders (excluding the academy blokes) on the list are florent and Hayward.

Bringing in a new era of successful first rounders? What a dream.

I never say this stuff, but I've heard from someone supposedly in the know that we are

1. getting daniher and our first pick will be used in the deal. person stated that we dont rate the draft so happy to deal first pick

2. they are confident papley stays

3. Jones going for sure

4. Bennel on his way
Id be disappointed about losing our first for Daniher but keeping Papley is my priority so happy with that.

Is your source someone within the club or someone of any credibility?

It shouldn't be considered so bonkers to want a super talented kid on the list and to hope that that kid we take becomes a truly special player.

There's arguments for and against top 5-10 picks and their potential. Sure you can find diamonds in the rough and we've been bloody good at doing it but if I think back over my time watching footy, every team I've watched win a flag hasn't just had diamonds in the rough, but they've had a once-in-a-generation great of their club as a key figure in those flags, and they've all (with the exception of Goodes and Ablett) been top 10 picks. Think Martin at Richmond, Hodge at Hawthorn, Selwood at Geelong, Pendlebury at Collingwood, Judd at West Coast, Kennedy at West Coast, Bontempelli at Bulldogs.

Five of those alone won Norm Smiths because they were so influential in flag victories. Daniher does not scream that once-in-a-generation type to me. Just my opinion.
