Oddly played in two GFs in that period....
while the teams that "won" trade week ...have barely won a final
Every team to win a GF has brought in players over that period. Most have brought in guns.

If you see a punter with a swans scarf on at a thai restaurant in Lygon st, come up and say gday Kapanis. Great to have paps at the club another year.

Monumental mistake to not accept 9 for papley...will get less next year

Papley should be held to his contract. **** him. This is a cut throat business and the only way he was going anywhere was if he could be used to get something big in. You have to give to get in this game. He plays in Sydney next year end of story. Oh ! btw **** Carlton and his Mates there.

Meh - Jones for Taylor is ok for me. Jones was quick so is Taylor.

Taylor might have a better brain.

Disappointed but not surprised. Just hope Joe screws them next year and Dodo is looking like the tool he is. Even if we miss out.

This cub has bigger issues than this trade period anyway. See what happens.

A lot of players out contract next year....
A lot of RFA.....

We have a lot of cash.

Not worried, JD was going to make no difference to our flag hopes in the next 2 years.

every year people say we have cash to spend, cant seem to land anyone unfortunately

who knows

club will put a positive spin on it of course

stkilda went out really positive and traded

will be interesting to compare the approaches

Difference is that Saints had **** all talent to begin with, so they needed to go hard.

We, IMO, already have that talent. Just gotta wait for it to grow then plug holes when we're in contention. (I know you disagree about us having that talent.)

How is 9+25 a bad offer? A top 10 pick and an early second for a bloke that hasn’t played much lately....that’s more than fair.

Happy with Taylor it’s an astute acquisition.
It's **** all for a player of Daniher's calibre.

time will tell, i just think we have in the past traded well to win 2 flags

seems reluctant to do it anymore

It's harder to do now IMO after what we did in 2009, the other clubs won't give us a free kick like that again.

Disappointing that we couldn't improve our list though, 2020 looks like another tough year.

About 6 Teams get ahead while we don’t is ******* frustrating af

It is about now that I would like to remind you of what happened at Port Adelaide in 2017, everyone labelled them the trade winners when they brought in Rockliff, Motlop and Watts.

Who won the trade period in 2018? Lot's were saying North Melbourne after bringing in Polec, Tyson, Pittard and Hall.

Winning the trade period... doesn't always mean winning games.

Geelong and Hawthorn got golden crops, West Coast and Richmond traded for established players as well to form their premiership-winning core
Carlton, Melbourne, St Kilda, Brisbane, Gold Coast, even Richmond prior to 17 had many busted drafts that had led them nowhere

Not saying that premiership teams can't be built through accumulating high picks in the draft but it requires that the kids actually develop into stars and the club doesn't face retention problems. It's a lottery and not really any more a reliable method of building a successful list than trading for established talent imo.
Bit of both was my point

interesting year for joe daniher ahead

essendons big contract extension will come
And if he has any balls he'll tell dildo to GAGF for knocking back a very reasonable trade. The fact is that offering two first round picks, one being a top 10, is extremely reasonable for a player that; has one year on his contract, kicks 1.8 goals a game and has a very questionable body.
