LOL. Crows have had to keep Gibbs on the rookie list this year as they couldn't afford to pay him out last year.

Who the fu** were they paying it all to (aside from Jenkins and Betts).

This plus Hinge means 2 less list spots to potentially pick up Borlase :)

Presumably Sloane, Ted and the Crouches are/were on a tonne of coin. Awful list management.

The Crows have now filled their PSD list too meaning they have to use 5 picks in the ND.

If they don't trade out their pick 40 then they would either have to use it on Borlase or leave Borlase to the open draft (and hope he gets to the rookie draft where they can select him as a Cat B).

I can't see Borlase being the highest payer on their board come pick 40.

Knightmare doesn't have him in the top 48 and Chris25 has him at 45.

The Bulldogs and Collingwood are fighting over who pays Treloar’s salary. How can that still be an issue? It had to be sorted out before the trade, surely!

This looks like a monumental stuff up by the Bulldogs. If they didn’t have a firm commitment to pay part of Treloar’s wage, they will have to pay all of it. If they are left to pay $900k to Treloar, they old easily lose Bontempelli.

They either didn't get it in writing or more likely they agreed on the total but hadn't fully agreed on which years they were going to pay what in.

They wouldn’t care if their last pick was 25, they’ll take him to score hahah Ports points.
Literally the point of their existence.

Where did you see/hear this? If this means he is on their rookie list in 2021, shouldn't that mean he can't play with South Adelaide? Or do you mean they wanted to cut him end of last year, and a secret deal was cut this year to have him on the rookie list?

EDIT: Found some information, yes he will be on the Crows list in 2021.

Question remains, he shouldn't be able to play with South then.

The main rookie list is pointless now. It should be the Rookie list is just for what is now Cat B Rookies (same numbers allowed). With clubs just able to have as many players on lower contracts, as there currently are rookie spots. With no need to upgrade rookies before playing now, there's another reason it should go.

Just scrape the rookie list and rookie draft and clubs can put players on the lower salary allowed if they've the space / numbers allowed. Clubs would be able to move existing players to the lower salary if club and player agree. Would save the need of delisting then re-taking the player as a rookie. The only anti-rorting change for the draft required, would be that if a player is in the draft a new club taking them with a normal salary would take precedence over a new club wanting to take them and only pay the reduced allowed salary.

or just get rid of it all together and have more players on the main list.

I do see value in a NFL style practice squad who can train but can’t play made up of players who don’t get drafted. Clubs can have rights to these players if they make the grade. That is closer to the intent of a rookie list, not what the AFL has now, where the likes of Betts, Mumford and Birchell sit.

just a lazy combined 797 games, 700 goals and 5 premierships worth of rookie experience.

Unless he lodges his “retirement” paperwork after the final list lodgement???

but I think you’re on to something. Doesn’t sound right.

So evidently Gibbs will be retained on the rookie list but for "administrative reasons only, and he is declared inactive and retired."

Means he can play with south. How weird.
What’s weird?
That the Crows get special treatment from the SANFL?
😂

What's interesting is if South Adelaide are getting a player outside the $210k mega cap? Are the crows still paying him even a bit? If I was one of the 7 clubs with no future I'd be asking that question.

No doubt we'd have been given the same fair and reasonable treatment if we'd signed an AFL adminstratively rookie listed player as our SANFL captain.

Apparently Collingwood (lol) and Bulldogs are arguing over how much they're paying of Treloar's salary. Collingwood on about they never got anything in writing regarding their contribution

Two weeks to get a trade sorted and they didn't even run it past the lawyers? Surely not.
