Autopsy 6 point win over Richmond(wtf)

Strange call on Heeney when he was one of the key people to get us across the line. His flexibility to be thrown behind the ball stymmied the Richmond run on and then kicked a crucial late goal to help get us across the line. Some have no clue.

Is our side better with Mills in the backline?

Is our midfield good enough with Warner, Rowbottom, and Parker?
Have a horrible feeling Mills was injured late in the first or early in the second. Came off for quite a while. Looked to me to be playing through pain. His leadership settled the defence when they were panicking. Rampe and Lloyd couldn't do it. Great the way the others stepped up esp Warner and Rowy. Also pushing McInerney forward worked better too.
Team looked a lot better balanced that way.
Shout out too to Ladhams who sometimes looks like a palsied giraffe but boy did he put in against two very hard ruckmen. Must be black and blue.
Ramps did a good job on Dusty when he played forward.
However, conceding 100 won't win many games.

Wrote us off but was an incredible comeback.

Some points.

  • We need to clone Mills, one in the midfield one in defence.
  • Don't drop COR he was very good tonight and belongs at this level.
  • Rowbottom career best game, was immense and nice to see him fit again.
  • Warner is going from strength to strength.
  • Franklin keeps proving me wrong, was posting here

Also just announced by John Ralph Florent is signing a new two year deal.
Campbell not very effective. Hope we don't drop O'Riordan for him. Need that hardness in defence against Melbourne.

Probably one of those debuts where he will go back to the Ressies with a sense of what's required. Not too uncommon
He's basically debuted in a semi-final against a very physical team. He will have learnt a lot when debriefed.
Hadn't realised he is as solid as he is.
He may not get another game this year but he'll be fine.

Bloody hope not. Not his Achilles again? He's pivitol to us doing anything of note this year.

Inconsistency is our only consistency.

Ladhams, Warner, Rowbottom & Lloyd had great games. All of them impressed me & imo had their best games of the season.

Reid/Franklin/Mcdonald in our forward line does not work. IMO Parker/Heeney can play as that 3rd tall while providing tackle pressure inside our forward 50.

We need to improve our tackling pressure. Tigers had 16 more tackles and 15 more tackles inside 50.
Pretty sure we played Wicks and Papley higher than usual.
And why wasn’t that adjudicated as dissent?? Isn’t that a 50?
Can't have a 50 without a free. Plus it was after the siren. Could have reversed the original free perhaps?

We seem to give players 1-2 games in their first year to get a taste (unless they're elite talents) and then bring them through the year after. Same happened with Stephens and Warner.

In more recent times under Longmire at least. Roos would make them earn their spot with 10-12 years in the 2s before a valedictory season in the 1sts before retirement.

Horse liked that early days too with Titch.

Your younger brother is playing well in the twos Chadman. It would not surprise me to see him debut this year too given the right circumstances.

If he's really the Chad then he was a champ last night taking a photo with my two sisters-in-law, they were so excited meeting some of the players after the game.

Love how people continue to make excuses for Heeney's inability to take the step to the overrated levels people have bestowed on him. He kicks 4 in one of his cameos and he is elevated to the levels of a Martin but when he goes missing in games or sometimes for 2-3 weeks on end he is not fit and carrying something. Just need to accept Like James Bell is an almost AFL Footballer Heeney is an almost AFL Star. Does he produce the odd match winning performance of a Star ? Of course he does. Does he play at a consistent level to which his ability would suggest he could ? No he does not. Good player nothing more which is ok too.
That's the thing. Many of us have never spoken of him as being a Martin type star. It seems to me, the ones that are most critical of him, were the ones talking him up as being capable of being a top 5 in the league star in the first place.

Commentators said that our gamestyle changed after halftime. We started spreading more from the contest and using the wings rather than focusing through the middle. If so, keep it up.

Loved the run n carry from lloyd, it has to continue once blakey returns.

Rowbottom goal was the moment everything clicked for him. Imo he gained heaps of confidence from that goal and lifted to another level afterwards.

No it was not correct - prior to the jumper grab, Prestia gave Warner a face chop that Macho Man Randy Savage would have been proud of. Should have been a free to us.

meant correct not a 50

Heeney is supposed to be one of the highest paid in the comp, (if true)' that makes it frustrating at times when he looks like he is about to go the best in the comp, then goes back a bit.

Splitting hairs between star and superstar I guess

Vision in the rooms at half time showed Pyke instructing the whole team, Hodge said it was to move the ball sideways through the guts and then attack. Is Horses game plan so simplistic that it's just bomb it long on Buddy's head if there's no obvious lead? Because thats what we do way too much.. I'm just surprised it takes Don Pyke at half time telling us there's a different way to score.

Obviously it would be more than that lol

Reid was first hands to a lot of footy in the air last night and didn’t mark a lot as it was slippery but got himself in a good position and has great reach. He was teetering on a terrible game but in the end had a great game IMO

Hayward had the best hands of all teams all night. Was the stand out in the air.

But special mention to Buddy’s overhead grab. Seemed annoyed at himself for the reversal and simply wasn’t going to drop that football and slot the goal. A champion moment and crucial part of the game to stay in touch and make amends.
Standout , he's another Rohan .
