The year they shockingly gave it to Priddis, which was widely mocked.

Priddis was a worthy winner. Gray was very good too though

Overrated doesn't mean I think they weren't a good player. Robbie Gray was a good player but I always felt that they could never make up his mind. He was a forward, then a midfielder, then a forward again. His top form window was also very narrow. Yes, I know he had a knee reco but he basically did nothing until he was 24 or 25. A little bit like Petracca who was wasting away doing half forward craft the first 5 years in his career.

For me Robbie Gray went missing too much within games. And I don't agree with the brownlow claim. Nonetheless, brownlows don't mean anything anyway. I mean Wines won it last year and wasn't even a top 50 player this year.

But if you do believe in the brownlow as an indicator, below shows you his tallies, which supports everything that I've said.

1200? Jack Riewoldt has kicked more goals than him and Jack hasn't played as a genuine full forward for years.

Their goal kicking figures are remarkably similar. It’s not like a case of ‘oh look at Jack Riewoldt who kicks an extra goal a game AND he hasn’t played as a true full forward for a while, Hawkins has played there his whole career.’

Their goal kicking numbers are similar, Hawkins has been labelled by a number of pundits (professional ones) as being among the most unselfish forwards in history, and he didn’t start playing as a permanent full forward until 2013.

Prior to that he played behind Mooney as the number one forward, played as a ruck forward and CHF, then James Podsiadly came along and assumed the full forward spot.

If you’re going to argue, at least look at both sides of the argument to make sure your point isn’t completely nullified by facts about the other player.

This is an easy one, overrated is Tom Stewart. If hes not guarding a hectre of grass, he's playing on one of the oppositions weakest forwards.

Same height as May and Sicily but can't play key position. Can't lockdown a forward either. After almost putting Prestia in a wheelchair, Geelong were completely fine without him for that month.

He plays his role well, but has a meltdown and gives away 10 frees when he gets attention. If Sicily was given Stewarts role, he'd average 45 disposals and 20 intercepts blindfolded.

Hes arguably aside from Mitch Duncan the best ball user in the current premiership team. Why the hell wouldn’t you want him getting it in his hands as much as physically possible

He plays his role well, no doubt. But he's one of the names thrown around when the best defender in the comp conversation comes up, when he doesnt have near the skillset Sicily does. He has the easiest role in the AFL.

But he doesn’t. He drives our attack like Scarlett used to and for a good comparison of why he’s valuable, watch Jake Kolodjashnij.
Improved player yes and very good one on one, rarely out marked. Drives no attack and gives up at least a goal a game from a poor decision and executed disposal.

What’s really funny is that aside from the ‘open to interpretation stats’ that suggest your comments are wide of the mark like, say ‘Hawkins has more handballs per game so wouldn’t that suggest he gets and disposes of more ball in broken play and in traffic’, he literally averages more GROUND BALL POSSESSIONS over the course of their careers and for half of it he had a serious back injury

4. He had 15 Brownlow votes in his first 7 seasons. if he was so impactful, where are his brownlow votes? Kozzie pickett has averaged 1.7 goals in his last 2 seasons. And also had match winning goals. So 1.3 or 1.4 goals is nothing to me.
6/7: don't comment on his best season without mentioning his pretty average career counts. If he was so impactful where was this reflected in the brownlow?

They are very good players but I think over rated. Oliver just doesn’t have the polish or damage to opposition with his high amount of possesions in my opinion.
A top 15 player but not a top 2-3 like other rate him. As I’ve said before his contest work is good and he’s got some mongrel and size I’d love him on my team and he would probably be our best midfielder but I don’t see him at that same level as others.

Mcluggage is inconsistent and a little soft a good player a very good player but people’s expectations are that he will be one of the best and I just don’t see it happening.

The two dominant goal scoring midfielder / forwards of the current crop, bont and petracca averaged 1.1 and 0.8 this year and 1.2 as their career best.

That's fair enough. I feel like Oliver suffers from opinions formed about him when he had first started his career. He's got a fairly good metres gained rate nowadays.

Agree. And his disposal has improved out of sight over the past couple of years. I grimace when people say that he gets a lot of possessions but has little impact. That opinion may have been true in 2019 but it's certainly not true now.

Zach is an in and under player and very sorely overlooked and he too, of our back half players, has sensational disposal - but not as good as Stewart and not as precise with his decision making.

Tuohy has above average footy IQ and takes the best option more than 75 per cent of players in the comp. I’d say Stewart is in the top 5 per cent of ‘option takers’ though
