I think that’s sort of the point. I reckon the aim is to give him a little experience in reading the play in defence so he can hopefully develop in to a ruck similar to Cameron who often drifts back to mark in defence. Steene the one who goes forward. At least that’s how I see it.
To be fair we played a largely low possession game tonight. Our highest possession getter had 25.
My only assumption is that its better for salary cap reasons to lock them in early knowing that it could be a wasted list spot but for the benefit of having players 30-36 on the senior list locked away near the salary floor.
Anecdotal evidence means next to nothing. 3 supporters (on BF) out of our couple of hundred thousand isn’t definitive.

Don,t you think both Macrae and Johnson have had enough opportunities to show something I think they were both fortunate to get a further season TBH. I do not think it is an ordinary comment either just a brutal but entirely fair comment about where both players stand with the emergence of Long and West also showing probably as much as Johnson has in the VFL at 6 yrs younger.
They're still on the list, and especially under our current coach I can't imagine us treating players like that. I'd be staggered if we did anything like you're suggesting, so it just won't happen. We can let them go at the end of the year, and replace them with someone we pick up most likely in a draft where the talent pool is greater. Both are indeed lucky they were granted those contract extensions, and I'm not expecting either of them will do anything startling when they do (presumably) return later in the year. They still have to be supported (by the club) while they're on the list, and have the right to try and show they have something to offer (even if it's to another club) in the future.
I just don't expect to see us do that sort of thing, no matter what they see in the future for those two players. Some clubs might be prepared to be that ruthless, I don't believe we would be, and I much prefer it that way!

And just on that last bit, my thinking on this wouldn't change one bit even if we were sitting 2-5! Our club is in fantastic shape both on and off the field at the moment, and Craig McRae's way of handling people obviously has a lot to do with it. Stabbing listed players in the back just doesn't seem to fit with our current approach, and so it shouldn't happen!
I do not think either should have been given a further yr I think neither have shown themselves to be AFL relevant really in fact to be truthful they have not really shown themselves as VFL relevant apart from the odd performance which are too few and too far apart.
